  1. I split this out into its own topic. The NSBB folks roll their eyes at me but I really encourage people to start a new topic if they want to talk about something and don’t see a relevant thread. It spurs discussion and makes a forum more readable for newer and/or sporadic users.
  2. This is the sixth game thread of the 2023 season that has gone over 100 replies. We'll revive these damned things if we just keep at it.
  3. His WPA is positive so he can't be bad in high leverage situations.
  4. Get some outs, please. Stop St Louis, I hate them so much.
  5. Started a topic for PSD users to give their feedback and commentary if they have ideas for NSBB:
  6. We're always looking to expand our coverage or make things better for users here at NSBB. What things would you like to see on the site, were there things you really liked about PSD that aren't here? Any commentary and/or suggestions are welcome. I already know about Tapatalk so let's not focus on that. It's just not a feasible option here, NSBB is too large and comprehensive to work within Tapatalk's framework. It's far more likely we someday launch a standalone app.
  7. One of those rare plays where no matter how much you slow it down, I don't think you're going to be able to tell whether the ball reached the glove or the foot reached the base first.
  8. Yeah, that's definitely the current result but I don't like that the players are the ones getting squeezed in the process, particularly mid-tier free agents.
  9. Apple TV's scorebug and stat pop-ups are proof that minimalist design is just a more attractive presentation than most sport broadcasts trying to go EXTREMEEEMEEME!!!11 on everything.
  10. I agree that it's less true but that's as much from big market teams using the luxury tax as a soft salary cap as any real parity in the sport, which isn't a great long-term solution.
  11. No, Contreras' start in St Louis wasn't "disastrous" for any reason other than the Cardinals are arrogant and eagerly threw their new free agent acquisition under the bus in lieu of taking a long, hard look at their own organizational mistakes.
  12. Oh, absolutely. The self-imposed limitations are nearly as bad as the necessary limitations. And that extends up to larger market teams like the Cubs, whom I feel aren't spending anywhere near their capability and haven't for quite some time.
  13. Yeah, but smaller markets can only compete in brief bursts, they have to play by entirely different rules than bigger market teams. 100% parity probably isn't the solution but balancing the scales a bit more is good for the sport as a whole. TV revenue has really broken baseball over the past couple of decades. Having the Dodgers bring in $250m a year from TV while the Brewers bring in $40m isn't good for baseball.
  14. Yep, which is why I'm skeptical we'll ever see the parity and revenue sharing needed in baseball to raise interest in it nation-wide. Owners are too focused on what's happening RIGHT NOW with very little interest in laying a foundation for ten years from now.
  15. Their presentation is great (and typically Apple), I'm not a big fan of fracturing MLB broadcasts further and further. Though Apple's probability percentages are ****ing stupid, to put it bluntly. I don't know if any of you listened to the Effectively Wild podcast last year with one of the heads of the company that does the probabilities but it was super-embarrassing for her. Just really awful tech.
