  1. Beat the damned Yankees. Carlos Rodon makes his first start of the year so who knows what to expect from him?
  2. Kinda seems like a stretch but teams will pick up almost any reliever at the deadline in hopes of squeezing 25 good innings out of them down the stretch.
  3. Anthony Franco of MLB Trade Rumors compiled an early July top 50 trade candidates list and the Cubs have two players in the top 11 and five players in the top 50 overall.* *obviously, this assumes the Cubs will in fact be selling at the deadline Marcus Stroman and Cody Bellinger lead the Cubs' portion of the list but Michael Fulmer, Yan Gomes, and Kyle Hendricks also make the list. The Cubs have compelling pieces that other teams will want to acquire, how aggressively should they sell if it comes to that point?

  5. The Padres marketing team is getting desperate.
  6. It's a big help if you follow our accounts and share stuff you find interesting (assuming your blackened soul is still capable of joy and sharing). Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NorthSideCubs/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/northsidebaseb
  7. What a ridiculous series this has been. Somehow, the Cubs are in a position to win this series with their co-ace on the mound against a struggling Freddy Peralta.
  8. I'm curious to get a feel for what people are thinking about the trade deadline and how to approach it. I doubt we're going to see many people going for a hard buy but what level of action do you want to see from Hoyer & Co in the next few weeks? And if you're punting until just before the deadline, are you willing to accept less-optimal packages for key pieces or do you believe in making the decision early and acquiring the guys you want?
  9. I don't know if they're a .500 team without Ross but I think they're at least closer to .500, which is something. Ross seems to make a bunch of unforced errors. He's not doing the team any favors.
  10. The Cubs managed to squeak out a win after nearly blowing a big lead to the Brewers again. The upside is that the Cubs have vastly improved starting pitching going into the final two games of the set. Today, Steele takes the mound.
  11. William Contreras baited Morel into that by not setting up and lulling him into complacency.
  12. Also Hendricks and he's a free agent after the season, correct? SporTrac has a $16m option on him in 2024 and I don't think that's accurate, though I could be wrong.
  13. @Rex Buckingham thanks for using the rumor option to post this, it is a really big help to us!
  14. Good point. If the starters are on their games, expect several nine pitch innings.
  15. Welcome to North Side Baseball! Amaya can't get serious consideration if the Cubs won't play him. 😐
  16. Woof, tough loss yesterday. But either way, a good performance from Hendricks is vital for trade value or just a good ol' fashioned win.
  17. A couple of really bad losses in a row. If it were up to me, David Ross would be looking at the door. But some looming questions must be answered in the next 30-ish days that have more immediate significance. What do you do with Marcus Stroman? Cody Bellinger? And if you sell, how deep do you purge the 40-man?
  18. Just for giggles I went and checked Madrigal's splits. June was the first month of his career he posted an OPS at or above .800 (.898) while having more than 30 plate appearances in the month.
  19. So, Julio Teheran. He has no excuse being this good and it feels like every start is the one where his magic pixie dust runs out. Yet it never happened... until his last start when the Mets absolutely lit him up. This is a four-game set in Milwaukee. The Cubs kinda need a split here, though expecting more than that may be asking too much.
  20. Okay, a fix has been deployed. Given that we can't test it from this side of things (because we can't see the error), please confirm whether it's fixed for you.
  21. Okay, that helps. I’ve forwarded this on to the software expert and hopefully he sees wtf is going on here because I’m not seeing it.
