  1. If the Cubs keep winning, it feels like buying at the deadline becomes inevitable, which is good news for the Cubs because up to this point, the deadline has been rather quiet, as there are many teams still on the fence about selling and few selling teams have have clear upgrades at positions. MLBTR's Anthony Franco runs through the best remaining trade targets heading into the final 72 hours before the trade deadline. Of particular interest to the Cubs: Josh Hader: RP, San Diego Padres Michael Lorenzen: SP, Detroit Tigers Eduardo Rodriguez: SP, Detroit Tigers Paul Sewald: RP, Seattle Mariners Scott Barlow, RP, Kansas City Royals Who are your favorite trade targets and why? 2. Literally every game thread in history with more than 100 comments
  3. That is one of our goals. We've seen enormous gains in game threads this season but there's more work to be done in 2024.
  4. That's the spirit! Extra double welcome to you! 😃
  5. Jameson Taillon takes the mound but actually has a pitching advantage because Wainwright has been so bad this season. The Cubs have a chance to move two games over .500 for the first time since May 1st.
  6. Patrick Mooney wrote a lengthy piece for The Athletic today, focusing on the Cubs' recent resurgence and the struggles of Marcus Stroman. Here's an interesting quote from Stroman: "Like I said, I feel like ever since London I’ve been off slightly mechanically. The rhythm and the consistency of my slider has just been a little off. The sinker’s good, but then when I go to get to my slider, I feel like it’s very different mechanically. So I’m just looking to find some unity, some uniformity. I’ll get there.” Stroman is obviously acknowledging his recent struggles and pointing to a potential cause for those struggles. Mooney goes on to talk more about the Cubs' recent performance under Ross, the fact that this team is largely Jed Hoyer's team, and those players deserve to be rewarded with a true push at making the postseason. (I'll take this moment to say that if you're not already subscribing to The Athletic, I highly encourage you to do so) What do you think, has this team "earned" the right to make a stretch run or is selling still the prudent decision?

  8. Yeah, someone just tag me when it's announced and I'll update the info. As you can probably guess, I'm all over the place right now with the deadline intensifying.
  9. Last night was quite the rollercoaster. The Cubs won going away while the Cards showed their ass all night long. Worst. Franchise. Beat them again, please. Also, welcome back to .500, Cubbies! Chicago now sits only four games out of the final Wild Card berth.
  10. This team is really determined to keep things interesting for as long as possible.
  11. Oh, I absolutely agree with all of this. I'm only pointing out that there IS a long-term risk involved in not trading Stroman and/or Bellinger. That doesn't mean it's a bad idea, only that risk is involved. I lean toward trading them both but as the Cubs keep winning, I find myself drifting more toward neutrality on it. There's still time to move the needle in one direction or the other. One thing to keep in mind is that with the Angels now buying, the market is dried up even further. Maybe the return becomes irresistible if teams like the Padres or Mariners decide to stay in it. Or maybe the decision becomes a no-brainer to keep both if the Padres or Mariners start selling.
  12. I agree that initially, it may not feel like a game-changing player in return... but PCA wasn't initially the game-changer he is today. Both Bellinger and Stroman carry the value of being able to bring back a piece that could turn into a game-changer. But "could" and "will" are different words. 😁
  13. It's a difficult decision to make and the recent wins absolutely confuse the situation. Watching engaging baseball down the stretch is both fun and profitable for a team. But at this potential cost to long-term competitiveness, there is reason to pause and consider whether it's a good idea.
  14. Wait. THE CUBS WON LAST NIGHT? Hahahahahahahahahah, my lord the White Sox suck. I turned off the game and read a book when it was 7-2 or something like that. Anyway, now it's off to St Louis, where the Cubs can hopefully punch the Cards in the face over and over again. The Cubs could even leave this series at or over .500!
  15. @jersey cubs fan and @CubUgly is there some sort of bad Cubs history with this guy? He used to work in Chicago, right?
  16. I'm just posting this creepy-ass throwback because it's my 1000th post.
  17. That part I really don't understand. It's going to be nearly impossible to recover the loss of one and still compete. You may as well whole-ass the situation and move as many pieces as you can, or move none.
  18. It's the QO, I'm sure. It's way harder to recoup value if there is a comp pick attached to a rental.
  19. I don't want to give up on the season but given the dearth of quality hitters on the market and the allure of a farm system like Miami, Baltimore, etc... boy, it's hard NOT to trade Bellinger.
