  1. No, not at all. The Cubs need to play a hell of a lot better than they have over the past 15 games.
  2. This is one point where playoff odds start to break down. Projections look at the Cubs schedule and see Atlanta and Milwaukee, which hurts their chances. But if both those teams are completely half-assing it, how much does that change the odds? I don't really know.
  3. Good lord, every morning I wake up to a cluster**** of a boxscore, it seems. The Cubs basically need a sweep of the Rockies at this point. Not a great situation to be in. Fortunately, the Brewers are hot and taking on the Cubs' direct competition right now, the Miami Marlins (who are running out a TBD starter today versus Burnes). It feels impossible that the Cubs are still in a postseason spot as of this moment but they are. A good series against Colorado will go a long way toward keeping them there.
  4. Okay, it's must-win time. The Cubs need to decisively win three of the next four against the Pirates and Rockies. After that, it's three with the Braves (who won't be trying but a half-assed Atlanta team is still potent) and then the Brewers, which is interesting because it's looking more and more like if the Cubs make the postseason, they'll be heading to Milwaukee for the opening series.
  5. Cubs did what they're supposed to do against the Pirates last night and the Twins beat up on the Reds. That means the Cubs are back into sole possession of a postseason spot.
  6. The Brewers lost last night and Wainwright got his 200th career win so I'm not sure where all of you land on that situation. The good news is that the Cubs didn't lose ground but they absolutely need to start scoring runs against the Pirates.
  7. Is this still happening? I'm also going to PM you, continue the conversation there if you are able, here if you are not.
  8. The Yankees, sure... but have you been following the Red Sox lately? They just scapegoated Bloom and will be building a new front office when the real problem is ownership.
  9. Look around, though. Do you think teams like the Red Sox, Yankees, or Mets are super-appealing right now? In the end, it will come down to money.
  10. Woof. Woke up to an ugly surprise in the box score this morning.
  11. The Cubs blew a great opportunity last night but have a similar opportunity tonight. They need Hendricks and the offense to step up and take control of the Wild Card race again.
  12. Cubs with the clear pitching advantage, just score early and put this one away quietly.
  13. To this point, no one seems particularly interested in claiming the final Wild Card spot. The Cubs have scuffled, even against a direct opponent in the Diamondbacks, and are still 2.0 games ahead of the third WC spot.
  14. Well, that Rockies series didn't go as planned after the bats decided to take a nap. There are also some question marks with the pitching with Alzolay being injured. A good time for an off-day and a reset, it seems. Then it's back to the Diamondbacks, where hopefully the Cubs can post more runs than they did against them in Wrigley.
  15. Well, last night sucked. I thought the Cubs had that game when Suzuki hit the home run.
  16. My baseball life improved dramatically when I began employing this strategy. If you believe the other person has a functioning brain and is capable of making decisions, why they make those decisions becomes a riddle unto itself, and often a rewarding one.
  17. That game was a lot closer than it should have been but ultimately, the Cubs walked away with a win.
  18. Now that he's up, I don't see a reason to send him back down (or end his season) unless he completely falls on his face.
  19. As Matt pointed out, these petitions are always granted. And teams can ALWAYS find someone to put on the IL (and most already have multiple choices available). If PCA plays well and the Cubs make the postseason, PCA will be on the roster if they want him there.
  20. Good to just be done with that Diamondbacks series so the Cubs can move on to a new opponent. Tonight's game could be interesting, as Jordan Wicks is going to pitch in Coors Field. You never know what to expect from a young guy pitching there for the first time.
  21. Here is the first pass at this guide. Please read through it and give feedback. We still have a lot of formatting to do so please focus on the content and anything that should be changed/added.
  22. Today's pitching matchup is much more favorable to the Cubs but wow, that game yesterday stung. Hard to lose a game when you get a performance like that from Taillon and use your best relievers.
  23. Why is Alzolay pitching here? Am I missing something?
