  1. Moving this to the draft forum!
  2. What's closer to .500 at season's end, the Cubs' winning percentage or Mervis's slugging percentage?
  3. Welcome to North Side Baseball!

  5. Wow, that game got out of hand last night. I checked out when it was 3-1 Nationals, only to find the Cubs scored eleventeen runs late in the game to win by two touchdowns.
  6. Yep, we try to update it every day. Here you go: https://northsidebaseball.com/chicago-cubs-draft-picks/2023/
  7. It's rather bittersweet. I'd prefer the Cubs stay in it for at least awhile longer instead of seeing page views spike for a couple of weeks as interest around liquidating assets peaks and then there's nothing to be excited about down the stretch. I managed years and years of deadlines when the Twins were one of the worst teams in baseball. It was nice to have interest spike for a few weeks but it's no substitute for a competitive team.
  8. In slightly better news, yesterday was the first quasi-viral day of NSBB as one of the trade articles was picked up by an aggregator. We had 2,200 people visit the site, which as far as I can tell is the highest number since September of 2016 (the beginning of recorded site data).
  9. Well, the Cubs have started their "must-win" homestand by going 1-3. Yuck.
  10. Bringing Steele into the conversation opens up more possibilities than can be counted, really. And it's the kind of out-of-the-box thinking that could lead to great results if handled adeptly... which I don't have overwhelming confidence in happening.
  11. Madrigal has a ways to go to catch Eckstein, who was very valuable in 2002 and a solid regular for quite awhile, accumulating 16 fWAR in his career.
  12. Huh. Well, that kinda explains why Suzuki's Baseball Savant page never made much sense to me. It always fascinates me when there is the rare occurrence of a player being okay at the plate but routinely missing dead-red pitches.
  13. Thanks. I wasn't sure the order in which these things were triggered so I wasn't sure.
  14. I can't speak for anyone else but I use terms like "top 50", "top 100", etc. very loosely to describe the quality of a prospect. It's just a way to quickly reference a guy, not any kind of concrete line.
  15. I have a question someone here might be able to answer: Bellinger has a mutual option for 2024. We know those are almost never used so let's just assume he's a free agent. How does that work with a QO? Do the two parties decline the mutual option, then the Cubs offer Bellinger the QO?
  16. Yeah, you combine both into a single deal and the return should jump from "two pretty good prospects" to "one really good prospect, maybe plus a low minors prospect".
  17. Okay, that's fair. I can easily see a team like the Orioles just saying "we can weather that loss" without much consternation.
  18. But also, it doesn't matter. Cody Bellinger is not going to bring back a can't-miss top 50 prospect. Let's be realistic here. Most contending teams have what it takes to trade for Bellinger, it's a matter of whether they'll pay the price and who the Cubs like best.
  19. Well, the Nationals are in town. It feels like a sweep is needed to maintain any semblance of hope before the deadline.
