I used to go to get all the autographs, but the long lines and general rudeness of some people just faded by expectations away. My general fad towards autograph seeking is almost non existent now. I used to get so excited but I look at it now like WTF would I want Vance Law, Rick Wilkins, Corey Patterson, Jim Hendry, & Jeff Pico on 1 autographed ball for. I won't go for the autographs, I will go for the atmosphere, drinking with the players, and getting cool Cubs merchandise. My wife got me a Cubs seat for valentines day that had a Kerry Wood plaque on it when he struck out 20 batters. Plus where else can one get their hands on a game worn Cole Liniak jersey for $25? Or a game used Jason Dubois bat for $15? Very Nice... 2 years ago I just went to the hotel after the convention was over to hang out with Cubs players in the bar and hotel lobby. Lee Smith and Bobby Dernier are cool guys to just talk baseball with. Listening to Lee Smith talk about his pitches while sharing a Budweiser was just so cool. Mike Wuertz tried to hit on every girl there, including my sis. I talk with one of the old Cubs trainers about steroids (not on the Cubs, but just his general thoughts), why Mark prior was always injured, and what his role was for weight training, preparation, etc. Heck, I bought Larry Rothschild a beer and he declined saying he was done for the night.
