  1. you better "knot" mention that again.
  2. No faith in Ronny? For shame... [-X if he puts up lopez numbers i'll be dancing in the freaking streets!
  3. i'd give the reds at least hill and williams. if guzman gets a crack at the rotation, they'll be totally expendable, anyway. how about williams, guzman, pie, epatt for freel and dunn
  4. This is why if we get Dunn its more likely to happen during the season, when Jones no longer has a no-trade clause, Murton has had a chance to prove himself (or disprove himself, if you think Dusty will sit him past April), and Pie may be called up. The guy i'd like to pry from the Reds at this point is Ryan Freel. He can start at 2nd and backup 3rd and OF, and would look great in the 2 spot if we move Walker. Come to think of it, the two players match up fairly well salary-wise, and Walker would be a good fit in that ballpark. I think he may be available because he's currently not slated as a starter on the Reds depth chart. Then again, the depth chart on the Reds site could have been written by anyone and may not be reflective of the team's priorities. At any rate... Walker for Freel anyone? Is Freel to similar to Hairston? i would love to see what freel could do in our #2 spot. if we could get dunn AND freel, our OBP problems would be over--but i doubt we'd be so lucky. i'd with guzman, hill, and epatt. see where it goes from there. Getting a Freel would Dusty proof this lineup even more. Who do the Reds have for SS? the best hitting SS in the NL: lopez.

  6. so, adam morrison and rodney carney will be bulls next year? that might be nice.
  7. Why? Our pitching is MUCH Better, and. . Pierre is Loften (maybe better) of 03 Walk is Walk DLee is Sammy of 03 Ramirez is Alou of 03 Murton is Ramirez of 03 and Barret is Dlee of 03 Our offense isn't really much "worse" as a pesimist might put it, DLee and Ramirez of 03 were not yet the DLee and Ramirez they are today. And we have a couple youngesters which are going to do very good this year, as well aside from Prior and Wood having carreer years, we really didn't have much else in the pitching. Look, you can be a bitter Cubs fan if you want to. But don't bring it my way!! Wohooo!! Go CUBS!! OH OH! then can i be mike tyson circa 86? cuz that would be very cool.
  8. Never heard of Lennie Friedman. he played a lot of DT in the last game of the regular season. he's pretty much a backup OL that's somewhat serviceable in that he's versatile.
  9. yeah, but that's not lee's fault. we're not talking about team performance, we're talking about individual performance. lee's performance last year was marginally better than pujols's, as carpenter's was marginally better than z's. yes, the cubs suck as a team, you don't need to keep reminding us, we know already.
  10. Lee's Career Al's Career' I love Derrek Lee as a player. That being said, your post is that of a crack head. Let's not be so hasty when Lee has had one great year. so, who do you think is better, carpenter or z? Oh boy, here we go... :D Carpenter won the Cy last year, and I would like him on the mound in any game. He is a fantastic pitcher and leader of a very underated staff. I would trade him for Z in a heartbeat because of age and raw talent. and if the cubs would have won the wild card, lee would have been the MVP. i just think that when the issue of lee and pujols come up, we should also evaluate what we think of carpenter and z. i'd take pujols in a minute over lee, but i wouldn't take carpenter for zambrano or prior.

  12. herzog used to do this with deleon, too.
  13. I'm PO as well, should have never been that close in the first place. I guess our only recourse is to hope they learn from this loss, use it to play stronger down the stretch. I'd like to see the Illini play PSU in the Big Ten tournament, those gimmick zones combined with Parker having the game of his life worked once, will it work again? ah, the cry of Illini nation. No way Penn State could have just won. It was all aqbout "gimmick zones" and "career games" you lost, live with it yep, we lost. congratulations. imagine if penn state had been beaten in football by the illini, you'd be pretty upset. unfortunately, the sports gods would never let that happen. the illini, in the history of their sports program, have never pulled an upset the size of what happened against PSU. and never will--just like i will never, ever, ever, pull the river card that i need to lay a bad beat down on someone. illini fans, it's all my fault. and derwood, be happy that i'm not a PSU fan.
  14. okay, i understand that people just absolutely cannot get enough of 24, but MarkPrior, the size of your avatar is ridiculous. please shrink it.
  15. i'm pretty upset over this loss. the sports gods don't seem to ber with UI right now. i mean, it's not fair that a team like PSU gets to beat the hell out of us during football season and then beat us in a sport in which we're supposed to be better.
  16. my grandfather swears that he heard dizzy dean say it.
  17. Typical Illinois fan. oh jeez, if iowa had won back-to-back outright titles, you guys would be saying the same thing. plus iowa has always been our chief rival, imo (having grown up on the border), and the blood will always be bad between fans of the two teams.
  18. just stop it.
  19. a strikeout consumes at least 3 pitches, a groundout can be on one pitch. this is where it's value lies. unless you would argue that pitchers never get tired if they throw a lot of pitches.
  20. because strikeouts have nothing to do with OBP. Not to quibble over details, but strikeouts do have something to do with OBP. Every time a player strikes out, he doesn't reach base. So, your statement is inaccurate. It is accurate to say that a player's percentage of strikeouts to total outs has nothing to do with OBP. In other words, if a player makes 400 outs, it is irrelevant to his OBP whether he strikes out 1 time or 400 times. insomuch as a strikeout is an out, you're right. but the specific form of the out irrelevant.
  21. not asking for any groveling, just respect. when that happens, i'll stop "whining".
  22. well, for one, he's probably the big ten's best defensive player. Yes, but that doesn't make him any harder for the hawkeyes to match up defensively. That is the point of this discussion. Iowa can match up with him defensively with either Haluska or probably Brunner for that matter. It's not like he is some offensive juggernaut that is super-difficult to stop on offense. no, but you ask what he's done, and i've said that he's a defensive specialist and probably the best defender in the BT, fair enough? I'll grant you that he is one of the top defenders in the big 10, but of course I am going to be a little partial toward Mike Henderson. Regardless, that was hawkeyecub who had asked what Randle had done, not me. i know, every hawkeye starter is the best SOMETHING in the BT, despiet the fact that illinois is the 2 time defending outright BT champ. for being the champs, the illini get absolutely no repsect. if the hawkeyes were in the same position, no one would be able to shut their fans up.
  23. on the contrary, i'm trying to give haluska his due, but people just aren't reading my posts completely. what i see are people saying that haluska's better in every facet of the game than randle, which is just not true. NOT ONCE HAVE I SAID THAT RANDLE COMPARES WITH HALUSKA OFFENSIVELY, NOT FREAKING ONCE! i'm projecting that randle will shut haluska down or play him to a draw, as he did with tucker, who's bigger, faster, a better athlete, and stronger than haluska.

  25. yeah, the game was played at carver, and it showed. the hawkeyes got called 13 fouls while the illini were called for 27. do you think that will be the case at the AH? somehow, i doubt it. randle got in early foul trouble due to some dubious calls and never got back in the game. again, do you think that the same scenario will unfold at the AH? furthermore, randle has no jumpshot, none. any points he gets are strictly layups or dunks. i might be a homer, but you're being a huge one here. How am I being a huge homer? Your statement basically made it sound like Haluska couldn't stay with Randle and that Randle would shut him down. So I used the statistics from their last game which showed that the exact opposite will happen. Do I think that will happen again? Probably not. But I'm also confident that Haluska can stay with him defensively and will get his points. And yeah the fouls sound pretty bad when you say it was 27 to 13. But you're ignoring that at least 5 of those came in the last 3 minutes when Illinois was forced to put us at the line becuase they were down 8-10. Plus, Tucker got his off of Randall. And it wasn't that Randall did such a great job of keeping him off the blocks, it was the fact that they double and triple teamed him down on the blocks. 7-12 from the field and 6 boards. Randall had a good all around game but not the defensive stopper that sulley was saying he was going to be. I believe your prediction was he would hold Tucker under 10 points. no, my prediction WAS 10 points, which i came here and took the heat for, yes? the fact is, randle played tucker to a standstill, effectively cancelling out his production. i don't remember any triple teams, but tucker WAS double teamed on the blocks, but nowhere else. man, i don't know why everyone here is so eager to disrespect illinois players. just kidding, i'm pretty sure i know why.
