  1. http://www.log24.com/log/saved/Quantum_Baseball.html This is a very slippery slope for those of us who are superstitious  there is the theory that we change our universe simply by observing it. there have been several fairly conclusive tests done with a particle cannon and hi-speed microscopic cameras that prove as much.
  2. and for the many many mizzou fans on this board: yes, kleiza hasn't changed since college, he still just dribbles into the lane and knocks people over, hoping no one gets set in front of him. ridiculous.
  3. bulls win at home against denver. :D thomas comes up huge with a tip with .02 left.
  4. I was waiting for an Illini fan to make this about them. Just didn't think it would be you you'll have to forgive me, but i get shell-shock every time a fairly big name coach comes into the Big Ten. it generally means bad things for illini recruiting--just the latest being sampson-gordon. as for illini fans making everything about the illini, that's totally untrue. there are wayyyy more people chomping at the bit to talk about missouri athletics, for instance. and it's a chicago board, there's bound to be more than a few illini fans lurking about--penn state fans might just have to deal with it. Yeah he is just pissed I wasn't the one who said it. I love how some things can be beat to death like Dusty bashing, but don't talk about illinois. On a board for a professional team located in illinois. We could talk about penn state. Apparently they are going to try and field a team again next year. I think it is cute really. notice how I didn't bring up Penn State (who I only sorta root for cuz they're in town) in a thread about Tubby Smith and Minnesota. that's because penn state has a rather non-existant basketball program. stating that tubby's move would hurt penn state recruiting could be considered a wee-bit frivolous. I in no way endorse penn state's basketball program as anything more than occasionally competitive crap. Most year's they couldn't beat the women's team. So please stop trying to use PSU against me, as it won't work where am i using penn state against you? i'm not actually trying to insult the program at all, you're misunderstanding. here's the point in a nutshell: while the illini should have a major concern for the tubby move (hence, my comment), penn state shouldn't at all (hence, your lack of comment, which you, in turn, commented on). that's all.
  5. Bill Self will not miss on this kid. I had heard too that he was signed, sealed, delivered KU, but in the last couple days it's come out that Self is offering someone else too, or that something that Self has done recruiting-wise may steer Releford away from Lawrence. I'm not a scout subscriber so I don't know the exact details. EDIT: Looks like Self is after Willie Warren, and for whatever reason that means Releford isn't as likely. come on, at least mine was kind of related to the topic.
  6. you forgot your best friend, mizzou.

  8. Yeah... "one pitch Rich" became "OMG I want Rich Hill to have my babies!" A lot of folks were too quick in writing him off, but we're all Cub fans and all want him to succeed. Some of us are just a little less impulsive than others. :D i got flamed when i called for him to be in the rotation at the beginning of the season last year. can't remember who by, though.

  10. unbelievable, this can only mean more bad news for illinois.
  11. Crap. i don't see why that's so upsetting. turner runs nothing special, but with a defense like the bears have, there's no reason to get super cute on offense.
  12. i don't think that you're a cleat chaser, but other than reiterating the fact that you know a football player, what are you trying to accomplish with this post? reiterating the fact that I know a football player? Dude, I know so many pro athletes it makes my head spin. When you're involved in SEC athletics for several years you are bound to know lots of guys who make it big. He's just one of those. What I WAS trying to reiterate was his humbleness. but apparently not yours, eh?

  14. does anyone else find it hilarious that roy williams cites his mother as the reason he "keeps so much coke around"? i just think it's funny every time he says it.
  15. I'm not sure he realizes he's not playing football right now. He was gatorade player of the year over guys like Dwight Howard and Gerald Green. Let that set in for a minute. wasn't nick smith gatorade POY? anyway, talk about frustrating. in wisconsin, they decide to stick with the marquette/MSU game under a minute, marquette 12 points down and STILL fouling! i'm watching the seconds go by on the VCU-Duke ticker screaming at my tv. ARE YOU EFFING KIDDING ME?!!!!!!!!
  16. Bolderdash. I like that word and it fits. The baseball diamond is an oasis where those things matter least. balderdash.
  17. Either or... It just means you're good at keeping the bat head in the zone for longer than most in a swing, good at choking up on the bat, or will swing at anything with two strikes with the two previously mentioned. Jose Cardinal (there's a name from the past) used to drive pitchers crazy by intentionally fouling off balls. I remember opposing pitchers commenting on it in the day. As I remember R. Carew was pretty good at it too. unfortunately, i believe this is how mark prior got ruined.
  18. For this one, it really depends on who you think will win the game. If IU can slow it down sufficiently, that may be possible. I will let you know-with similar offensive strategies last year from both squads, those 2 teams combined for 170 points last year. I'm leaning to the two teams having more than 142 tonight, but I'm not completely sure. i'm leaving for vegas tonite. last year, i was 8/8. i havent watched as much this year, but hopefully i have similar luck this time. i leave for vegas tomorrow.
  19. untrue. the week before harris went down, the trib did a full spread on how the bears front four had been getting little pressure over the previous 5 weeks
  20. i don't know if this is serious or not, but velocity is not the problem. the problem is that he can't get a breaking ball across the plate and he can't locate his 2-seamer. I disagree. More velocity gives pitchers more margin for error. If we want Prior to return to his previous level of performance, he's going to have to regain that speed. There are very, very few pitchers who can dominate like he did without better than average velocity. There just aren't many Greg Maddux pitchers out there. And even he combined better than average velocity with pinpoint control and great movement when he was at his peak. Since he lost those mph, he's become an innings eater instead of a great pitcher. we don't know if he's lost velocity or not. he hasn't thrown to live hitters in a very long time and it's still very early in the spring. when april 1st hits, we'll know if he's lost velocity or not. I never said anything about that. You made the statement that velocity is not the problem. That implies that if he never got the velocity back, he'd be fine. I disagree with that sentiment wholeheartedly. that makes no sense, and is actually the opposite of what i'm trying to say. i'm assuming that he WILL get his velocity back (because it's not the problem), but that if he can't locate his pitches effectively, he'll suffer greatly. so, you're agreeing with what i was trying to say. hmm...I guess I have a reading comprehension issue, because I don't get that from your previous posts at all. Okay, in that case, we're in agreement. Assuming Prior regains the lost velocity, then the command and location of his pitches would be the only thing preventing him from regaining past glories. i'm assuming that his velocity will be back up, as it was last year, but i'm also assuming that his location will be as bad as last year.
  21. you're saying that tampa has been wasting money on derrick brooks, too? no, in the tampa-2, the will better be fast, he better be quick, and he better be equally as proficient against the pass as against the run. the sam, on the other hand, is the position of no consequence in the tampa-2. the defense is built around the excellence of the will, and the bears have the right guy for it. The Tampa-2 isn't a defense built around the will linebacker. the will is the most important position in the scheme. No, the defensive line is the most important part of the scheme. The ability to get pressure with only the front 4 without blitzing is the big reason why the Tampa 2 works, and the team will always pick pass-rushing defensive linemen over any linebacker. The two safeties and the WILL are the next important, and the other two linebackers and the corners are the least important in the scheme. The big change that Chicago has made is to modify the system so that Urlacher becomes more important to the scheme to utilize his talents. Correct. Every defensive line position is more important than the WILL linebacker in the Cover-2. wrong. while the defensive line is impoprtant, it's importance is judged as a unit. as a unit, it's only important as the first wave of attack. when sacks and pressure aren't happening, which they weren't on a majority of snaps for the bears last season, the linebackers are revealed as the most important positions in the scheme. if the bears got more pressure on the QB last season, i agree, they wouldn't need such excellent LB's. but you can't assume QB pressure, ever.
  22. oh jeez, i doubt my perceived condescension can come close to yours, "sport". leave it alone. and i didn't avoid your point, i simply noticed that it was faulty.

The big change that Chicago has made is to modify the system so that Urlacher becomes more important to the scheme to utilize his talents. even under optimal conditions, the line may not get consistent pressure on the QB, as the bears proved this year. it's better if they do, no doubt, but when everything else is failing, the LBs MUST make the plays. and to a great extent, they made the plays for the bears this season. considering that the bears 2 starting DE's totaled 12 sacks combined last season, i'd say that briggs's position was under constant assault. without a guy like briggs, the levy breaks for the bears and the speed of the rest of the team is only put to use while chasing opposing players from behind.

Then why are the Bears and Colts letting their Pro-Bowl will linebackers walk? the bears are letting their pro-bowl WILL walk? i thought that they franchised him. if you have any other info that could be pertinent to bears fans, you'd best let us know.
