  1. Sorry  Bruce has a theory about who the first catcher was to wear a batting helmet with his facemask. Some guy from the White Sox. thank you!
  2. You can always find playing time for a guy of Durant's ability. yeah, i'd have to say goodbye to deng in that case.
  3. Chris, i'm asking you, nay, pleading with you to tell me what the deal with bruce was. please, i'm dying here, just tell me. edit: forget it. :D
  4. okay, there are already enough people offering info on soriano, can we have some info on why bruce is being hailed? i think i've asked enough!
  5. I didn't hear it either so I would like to know as well. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. are you serious or is this just a manner of speaking? Sure i'm serious. How relaxed is cliff when you have a 8-1 lead as opposed to the 8th inning with a 0-2 deficit. You seriuosly think that has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with it? Or to you seriously think baseball players are robots? i assume you're making this claim without much to back it up. Hmm. Just basic psychology. positive attitude breeds positive results. More realistically, perhaps... in games that are out of hand, you are less likely to face the better relievers. I'll just leave it at that and bow to all you superior baseball fans who know that baseball is all #'s and stats. Not directed to you Rob. very entertaining.

  10. Looks like he tweaked his left hamstring. We don't know how bad it is. day-to-day, but aren't we all?
  11. every cub will be hurt an inordinate amount of time on every occassion. there are no exceptions. the cubs cannot stay healthy, at least their good players.
  12. doesn't bother me. his OPS on the first pitch over the last 3 years is .934. i like those odds. It bothers the hell out of me. You have to consider the situation. It was a poor AB. nope. he hits well on the first pitch, regardless of the situation. you have to trust your better hitters at some point, and i trust him on the first pitch. the stats don't lie.

  14. jacque isn't very good, but he's good. i have no problem with him at all, when used properly.
  15. You recognize that keeping the ball on the ground is a skill, and yet at the same time say that Marquis shouldn't be given credit for his .229 or whatever BABIP? If he can keep the ball on the ground, it usually WONT go for hits. not true, as meph has says. it generally won't go for extra base hits, though. the pitcher SLGa will be better.
  16. i don't think he needs any help walking the leadoff hitter. however, zambrano is the good version of marquis, so maybe marquis could learn from him.
  17. trying to hit the ball on the ground isn't wise. Really? Neither is trying to hit the ball in the air. more hits will come via the ground than air. Obviously if you are leaving line drives out of the conversation you can't leave line drives out of the equation. the intent should be to hit line drives all of the time. Obviously. But your still more likely to get a hit on the ground vs. a fly ball. i never said you should try to hit fly balls. i believe that trying to hit fly balls is counter-productive as well. what i said is that you should never try to hit ground balls. regardless of the situation--in any situation, a line drive is going to generally be most productive. I agree in most situations, but not necessarilly in a hit-and-run. With the infield moving, a ball on the ground can easily be a base hit. Or you can line into a DP like barrett just did. minimizing the amount of times you attempt to hit line drives is never a wise decision. it will decrease your overall runs scored throughout the course of the year, which will decrease your total wins. assuming that a line drive is going to be a line drive out is also unwise. for one, with the infield NOT moving that line drive might not have been a DP, and two, that was unlucky. a ball hit that hard will usually find a gap, leading to more runs. hindsight is 20/20. i'll take barrett's line drive every day of the week than a weak groundball.
