  1. i know that the consensus around here seems to be that soriano would be more valuable in right field, but can anyone tell me what the advantages of having the strong-armed soriano in right as compared to left? there's this perception that stopping runners from going to third base would make the move worth it, but how much more often are there scoring opportunites for opposing teams in which a hit or a fly ball goes to left field instead of right--and how far does that go to nullifying any added advantage of having your strongest-armed outfielder in right field? i don't know if this is just conventional wisdom or whether it's actually been researched statistically. personally, i don't know, i guess i'm ignorant on this one.
  2. ????????? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v421/Banedon/rexbowls.jpg :D :D :D Worst photoshop ever! lol
  3. i really really really doubt that reds trade griffey before he hits 600, and that won't be before the non-waiver deadline. what's more is that i really really really doubt that the reds trade griffey to the cubs, who can't even afford to re-sign their best pitcher.
  4. the cubs aren't the yankees or the red sox. carrying lee, soriano, ramirez, lilly, marquis (yuk on that one) and hopefully zambrano will require that they continue to develop and keep their young, inexpensive pitchers like marshall and hill--while making sure that pie and soto get their chances with the big club. that's the economics of the game, and unfortunately, the cubs aren't above it, even in the unlikely event that cuban becomes their owner. as strange as it sounds, i'd imagine that both marshall and hill at their salaries are probably just as valuable as santana at what he will require. keep the young, cheap pitchers, continue to develop gallagher as a starter, sign zambrano to a long term deal and there's no reason why the cubs would have to empty their system for a guy like santana who goes once every 5 days.
  5. i keep telling people that rex's biggest problem is that he doesn't know when to step up in the pocket and he doesn't know when someone is breathing down his neck or 20 yards away. his arm is fine, his mechanics aren't bad, it's just that he's had no awareness at all thus far in his career. that needs to change, if it does, he could be a pro-bowler.
  6. cordero perhaps losing effectiveness with overuse.
  7. we're stuck with marquis for the next 2 seasons, sorry to tell ya. he's going to have to start. that's jim's fault.
  8. the lovie connection would certainly intrigue simeon. if we want him, i'm sure he'd be ours.
  9. Hopefully Hendry adds a bat because of how we've been hitting this past week. That's got to be a little bit of a silver lining. but the way hendry thinks, he'll assume we'll just be hitting so well in "clutch" situations for the rest of the year, as if clutch hitting is some sort of repeatable skill.
  10. I hope you realize that the Cubs are losing to Braden Looper because their offense is mediocre, not because Braden Looper is pitching great, but because the Cubs offense isn't good. agreed, they can't keep winning without home runs. this will be apparent over the rest of the season.
  11. Anyone who doesn't think we need another bat is nuts. i guess you have never met jim hendry well, it's hard to add a bat when you can't add any payroll. i just had a vision of adam dunn in a cubs uniform, it made me smile. but it won't happen.
  12. it would be nice if we could hit one of those some time. i can't really remember who hit the last one. they're becoming so rare you'd think i'd be able to count them easily enough.
  13. marquis's applecart is always just so close to flipping over at any second.
  14. if i had a nickel for every time a cubs player hit a long drive off the wall or the warning track. they just aren't going out this year.
  15. we should be all over looper, but then again, the cards should be all over marquis.
  16. you aren't raising him as a cub fan, are you?
