  1. Or not. don't know why lou pulled him. he might as well have thrown him out there for 1 more.
  2. if the worst case scenario has him putting up a .786 ops during a slump, where do i sign up? Combined with being one of the worst regular OF's in the game? I guess I have higher standards for $14M. I'm not saying I wouldn't want him under any circumstances and he is a pretty good bet to get you around an .850 OPS. However there are things that make me hesitant and I would want them to eat some of that money. If not, I'd rather go with Murton (and Jones if necessary) and allocate that $10-$13M to Z and a possible shot at A-Rod. again, defense is not our problem, our problem is OPS. burrell provides that. i'd take him in a second. You're right, defense isn't our problem. But awful defense changes a player's worth. I think there's a very reasonable chance that we can come up with an in-house option(s) that provides an .800 OPS for a low cost. Is Burrell going to be able to produce enough offensively to make up that $10-$13M AND the defensive drop off? yes, because +.800 ops right fielders odn't grow on trees, and burrell is good.
  3. be careful here. throw something offspeed.
  4. Well....he looked at strikes 1 and 2 as well. so? i don't see how that matters. reds pitchers walked what 4 cubs that inning, a very difficult task. So it would be nice to see our slugger take the bat off his shoulder at least once per at bat. i don't see what he could have done with any of those pitches. they were pretty much perfect. it's not like he looked at 3 down the middle. he was looking for a mistake over the plate, tip your cap to santos, he's good for a series of pitches like that maybe once every 20 appearances. Hey, I'm not hammering on him like some do on here, I'm just saying that I think he should have been looking to protect the plate on that count and in that situation. Anything close, and that was close enough, and he should be swinging trying to stay in there. They were good pitches, but all 3 strikes were put in the exact same spot. At some point, he needs to swing just to try to keep the inning alive. protecting the plate is for hitters like eckstein. i want lee to look for a pitch he can drive and then try to drive it. if the pitcher makes some lucky pitches, whatever. looking for something to just put in play does nothing to keep the inning alive. hitting a dribbler to conine ain't going to do it, he has a better chance at getting a walk than doing anything with those pitches.
  5. i wonder if santos realizes that jones can crush that outside pitch.

  7. not really, he's pretty much the same, which is a very good thing anyway.

  9. santos going to live on the outside edge from here on out.
  10. very weird coincidence: when i compared norris hopper to billy hatcher earlier in this thread, i had absolutely no idea that hatcher was the first base coach of the reds, nor that hopper would almost hit him with a foul ball later in the game. what are the chances?
  11. he's singled and walked tonight. let's not crucify him for striking out looking. i'd rather he look at strike 3 than swing at ball four.
  12. 1. cards 2. astros 3. brewers 4. cubs 5. reds 6. pirates but 4 and 5 are interchangeable.
  13. we'll see tonight. weathers will probably throw 4 scorelss innings. i don't think he's ever given up a run against us. we could have reacquired him. he's serviceable and it would stop him from dominating us with his average stuff.
  14. like i said, we'll have to wait for canning to get control of the team, this is one diseased offense, and not in a good way. we need another bat to win with consistency.
  15. he's old and he looks like a nice guy, but i'd put one right between his shoulder blades his next time up. get that arthritis acting up again.
  16. it's the cardinal mystique. oh yeah, and 10 bucks says the astros finish in second.
  17. he came out of retirement just to kill the cubs. i don't think he's done anything against anyone else in the last 5 years, except maybe the phillies.
  18. conine will hit another one tonight, book it.
  19. and conine single handedly dismantling the cubs.
  20. somewhere, on some other cubs website, someone is still holding fast to the belief that soriano is more valuable than mr "vorp donkey". what a joke.
  21. if we lose zambrano, we better somehow get santana and andruw jones. i'm just sayin', mr. canning.
  22. fat fast guys with names like "hopper" or "hatcher" really annoy me, anyway.
  23. yahoo serious film festival "i know those words but that title makes no sense"
  24. it's got to be the first 3-1 pitch he's taken all year.
