  1. You do realize the reason Pearl feel off the face of the Earth was because he made it public hat a recruit told him he was choosing a different school because they offered him money and new SUV. I would say he doesn't like cheaters. you have seen the transcripts of that conversation and realize the tape was thrown out by the ncaa, right?
  2. i think that's probably the next step.
  3. both. the prestige of the program is still mostly intact. i'd go so far as to say top 6. unc duke kentucky kansas ucla iu in no particular order. it's tough for me to argue for or against. i'm not close enough to the situation, but it seems that Indiana hasn't had an "elite" team in a long time, Mike Davis' Final Four run not withstanding. I mean, would you consider Penn State a top 10 prestige job in football? that's a tough one. it's going to be VERY interesting to see what happens when JoePa retires. knowing Penn State, they'll just promote a coordinator and completely rule out the idea of getting a marquee head coach from outside the system only if he's not dead by the time he retires.

  6. tennessee has had a better stretch than iu has over the past few years, but iu is a top job and a better program. no doubt tennessee is a better team, but the program is nowhere near iu, nowhere near. they will always be a football school, and pearl would be stupid not to jump at the job if offered. the only question here is if pearl will be welcomed back into the big ten after the deon thomas fiasco. he may not even be offered the job. and wisconsin-milwaukee took a bigger chance on him than tennessee did. he upgraded to a marginally better program, and he'll upgrade again if given the chance at a top 10 program like indiana.
  7. I like your list. Though I'm too young to really remember Sandberg or Dawson. I don't know anything about why you would/wouldn't like or dislike Dawson - but everything I see Sandberg say just reeks of bitter old man "Well back in my day!!!" type stuff. Though, If I would have seen him play I probably would have loved him. i just think dawson is a beast of a human being and sandberg is dumb. Please explain? I've meet Dawson a couple of times, and he's been the nicest person. So naturally I don't get your "beef" with Dawson. i just hate dawson, if it weren't for stone, he'd be my arch nemesis.
  8. no one here knows that.

  10. i still say stone, although dawson is a close second. 1. stone 2. dawson 3. hundley 4. baker 5. sandberg 6. grudz 7. neifi 8. macias 9. grace 10. overall

  12. I say screw fairness. they put up the same numbers, virtually. roberts can steal bases, but why trade away assets to acquire something you already have? that's unfair to the organization.
  13. so what? we control him for the next 5 years, which will more than likely be his prime years. i'd trade him to the sox, but they couldn't afford the price tag, they don't have the prospects.
  14. the segment after on lenny dykstra was cool, too. i love that guy, he's like forrest gump. he was the quintessential ballplayer--and i don't mean gritty. he could just play, like billy beane said in moneyball. i also have absolutely no doubt in my mind that he used a lot of steroids. the man simply looks like he's 70 years old.
  15. let me follow that up with saying that he deserves a shot to prove himself. i think the same baseball insiders that keep stat geeks out are the same guys that have blacklisted marshall. his motion may work for some, but i wouldn't say it works for everyone.
  16. i'm watching it right now. mike marshall is an absolute loon-recluse. that's the weirdest looking motion i've ever seen.
  17. this clears devontae payne's path to champaign.
  18. i keep saying that we have a second baseman. if we make a deal for roberts, it's not fair to derosa and i wouldn't blame him for being pissed off.
  19. His production is unacceptable at any position. no one's arguing with that.
  20. A lot of people on this board like to make fun of Theriot labeling him as a "grinder" which is fine but since when did it become a bad thing for a player with somewhat limited physical abilities to get the most out of their talent? Why is that a bad thing? If Cedeno had a little more "grinder" in him he'd probably be the starting shortstop - but he doesn't and he's not. I wish the Cubs would have acquired a Khalil Greene over the winter or upgraded the position but they didn't and Theriot is the best we got. if theriot's getting the most out of his abilities then his abilities are bad. i don't want him, trade him while he has some perceived value as a "grinder". maybe they'll take him on the south side where grinders go to die.
  21. haha, ned, you suck. so they're actually entertaining the notion of putting juan pierre in left field, where his production is absolutely unacceptable?
  22. shooting will return to champaign, again. meacham will be valuable off the bench next season, frazier, the same, but they're both role players and no more. i'd entertain the idea of starting brock in place of smith next year, too. but the real question is: who plays in the middle? my vote goes for keller and simpson. simpson is a man, and vastly underrated, he does it all against serious competition. no to tisdale, cole, and semrau until they prove that they belong on a high major team. davis has made progress, too.
  23. i got to admit i was pretty excited when i saw MSU with a decent lead late in the game. now there's no way we win tomorrow. brock flailing to the ground could've been very costly. imo you better be bleeding from the sockets if you're going to travel with the game winning rebound. DId you not see Brocks eye? There is noway you can blame him for falling to the ground, it looked as if he had went 10 rounds with Mike Tyson in his prime. i disagree. this is your season, cover the damn ball. don't fall down and drop it, i don't care how hurt you are. your ears aren't damaged, you can still hear that the whistle hasn't blown yet.
