  1. 14 of the 27 outs the padres made were ks. they're really making us look like flamethrowers.
  2. and wood protects the shutout. nicely done, way to go right at them.
  3. It's kind of ok because he's an older pitcher who will be a free agent this year and probably get a huge contract. If they insist on treating guys like this I'd rather it be somebody like Dempster than a 22-year old. yeah, i'm not too worried about dempster's arm falling off. though i'm more worried at this point then i was at the beginning of the season. he's been pretty good so far.
  4. It's what happens when you lead the league in OBP. Get used to it. 16 baserunners in 7 innings should lead to more than 4 runs being scored. yeah, so? this is one of 162 games. there are bound to be days when you leave runners on base.
  5. It's what happens when you lead the league in OBP. Get used to it. LOB is a good thing, overall. the more you leave on base, the more people you're putting there, the more runs you're scoring.
  6. He has been for a while. I think he's just afraid of hurting it and is favoring it. I don't think he'll ever be 100% running like he used to. he's just loafing.
  7. If the only other option was that he had to sit everyday in Chicago, you'd have a point. But that was not the situation. He didn't have to sit in Chicago. The right choice was to play him. The wrong one was to bench him for Reed Johnson. Making another mistake to cover up that mistake is just plain stupid. But that has NOTHING to do with Edmonds, which is what they were arguing about. I think even Sulley would agree that the number 1 option would be Pie in the majors playing everyday. However, that doesn't appear to be an option at this point. It is and it was an option. OMG. Are you serious? Have you watched RJ get start after start the past month and a half and Lix get 5 ABs per week? Seriously...come on. And that was somehow forced upon the Cubs by the league? this isn't about the edmonds signing, it's about lou's stupidity.
  8. If the only other option was that he had to sit everyday in Chicago, you'd have a point. But that was not the situation. He didn't have to sit in Chicago. The right choice was to play him. The wrong one was to bench him for Reed Johnson. Making another mistake to cover up that mistake is just plain stupid. but then the edmonds signing is moot. pie wasn't going to play anyway so the edmonds signing isn't risking "screwing him up even more".
  9. Please admit you made this up i don't think i did, but i could be wrong. When I think of meatball I think of ATHF. I see some similarities. no, that's meatwad.
  10. i'm not getting your point then. you pretty much said starting him everyday at iowa was screwing him up more than sitting with the cubs. He wants to have his cake and eat it too. He wants Pie up here and playing (like most of us). oh, okay. but then his point has nothing to do with edmonds.

  13. No, because Bruce is wrong. I could well be wrong. I've had to talk myself into living with it (like I have another choice). If it doesn't work, they'll just get rid of him. No, you're right. It would only have been bad had it taken PT away from Pie. But since Felix wasn't getting any, it really doesn't make any difference. But we don't need him and he is hated at least by a majority of Cubs fans. If this post makes me a "meatball" then so be it. hating him for being jim edmonds makes you a meatball. Yay! I actually don't mind that. I am stubborn in my ways. I don't like Jim Edmonds and I'm not afraid to admit it. step 1: acceptance step 2: washing it off
  14. It is low-risk performance-wise. That doesn't make it less stupid. actually, it does. you see, low-risk means "little risk". Tossing Felix Pie to the minor leagues when we know exactly what will happen with him down there is stupid. I don't care how little risk is involved. well, then, to you, it's "high-risk". The risk of screwing up the development of our #1 prospect by keeping him in AAA when he can't really benefit from it anymore far outweighs a few weeks of Jim Edmonds possibly being bad. so, pie is going to get more screwed up playing everyday at iowa than by sitting everyday in chicago? makes sense, i guess.
  15. With all due respect to Bruce, I think even he would agree that people are allowed to have differing opinions about things. Now obviously he's more in the know, and might have some sort of knowledge about why Pie was never given a shot, or why Edmonds was better than his numbers in SD, but even then, this isn't a communist board where everyone is supposed to think alike. no, i beg to differ. it is a communist board because we're all supposed to be meatballs and hate edmonds or get flamed. Why does it make somebody a meatball to dislike bad baseball players on the Cubs? meatballs don't hate edmonds because he's a bad baseball player. like i said, the move is pointless at worst. I don't know why, but calling people meatballs sounds so odd. Sounds like something someone would say in the 70's no, it doesn't. it's just the best term for what they are. i think characterizing it as "odd" is even more odd. i thought it was "meatheads" no, meatheads are jocks witout brains. meatballs are fans without brains.
