  1. penn state had 2 extra home games that were attended by 12,000 people, then a game at florida attended by 6,500 people, then 2 games at MSG attended by more than 20,000 people, including 52 buses of penn state students. you're probably right about one thing, that illinois fans don't care that penn state won the NIT, but winning 5 games in the NIT was a lot more meaningful to penn state fans that going to the ncaa tourney and losing immediately. hahaha
  2. Seconded. orton is the exact time of qb that mcdaniels is looking for. it wouldn't surprise me if they don't take sanchez in the first. in fact, i seriously doubt that they do, even if he's available.
  3. still a questionable OL, crappy receivers, and an aging defense. Bingo. Some people are acting like Cutler is Flutie, Montana, Young, McMahon, Manning and Brady all rolled into one. It's just hard for me to get excited over Cutler since the Bears have had like 30 QBs since I started watching as a little kid in the 70's. Plus I'm not excited about Pace either. He was great 8 to 10 years ago, but now he's getting pretty old in a position that has a very short shelf life. i think you need to remember that Cutler is only 25 years old. the only other QB's to throw over 4,000 yards each of the last two seasons are P. Manning, Brees and Warner. he's signed for at least three years and the Bears have time to fill those other holes while he's still in his prime. Forte is only 23. Olsen is 24. Hester is 26. the Bears actually have some really nice young talent on offense. also, a franchise quarterback can keep a team successful through tough times. getting one is the most important thing you can do to maintain consistent success.
  4. That's because no one cares. I would bet more people were tuned into ESPN2 or ESPNews watching Mark Schlereth wax moronic about the Cutler trade than gave a thought to the NIT final. And I can say with all honesty that even if the Illini were in the same position, I would hardly care then, either. I just remember West Virginia winning it two years ago and their shirts were misprinted saying "West Virgina". http://blog.spreadshirt.net/uk/files/2007/05/west_virgina.jpg that's one of the funniest things i've seen in a while.
  5. i'd say it's a more rewarding end to the season than... say, losing to western kentucky. Yawn. The Illini overachieved all season, and I was not surprised they lost. But I don't believe for a second most PSU fans wouldn't trade an NCAA berth and immediate dismissal for an NIT championship, nor do I believe the players would. Not for a second. past your bedtime? anyway, i wouldn't, at all. at. all. winning 5 games in a row, two of them at home, at least one of them in really exciting fashion, is a lot more fun than losing a neutral court first round game in the ncaa tournament. i'd say the 36 buses of students that went to MSG today would agree with that. alright, show of hands, who knows that penn state won a game in exciting fashion in the past week? show of hands, who knows that illinois lost to western kentucky? nobody cares about the NIT.
  6. and then they promptly got anihilated in the finals. but this year, i would bet my dignity that they don't win the title. it's hard to say, there are a lot of good teams. i'll say kobe has a better shot.
  7. I absolutely love the remark the thought the Bears "got worse" after the trade. no Mark, no they didn't. Finding weapons to help Cutler in Chicago is easier then finding a franchise QB who is available. I used to like this man, but today he has been the biggest blowhard at ESPN. At least Dilfer admits that feels the Bears are a better today with the trade. Just shut up Schlereth, you are embarrassing yourself. he still refuses to recognize that the bears just signed pace. somebody ask him about it, i'd dare him to say, on national television, that pace is old and broken down.
  8. yep, i bet you would.
  9. i don't think he wins one title unless he goes to a team with another superstar. you just have to sort of be born with it, i don't think that competite drive can just be developed. i'm not normally a guy to go on and on about intangibles, but lebron is the tin man. all the tangibles, none of the heart.
  10. he can be the greatest p[layer of all time like oscar robertson was the greatest player of all time. i will take killers. if anyone wants to say that i'm being subjective, well, okay, but lebron is not a killer. a great player, wonderfully athletic and dominant physically. he is a whirling dirvish with the basketball, a tigger, a bounder, a dunker, an incredible hulk, a man among boys. but he is not a killer. But you're assuming he will never become one, which is probably a sound conclusion based on how few people can compare to MJ in that category. I have to confess this is kind of m.o. I resign myself to stuff I don't like early so I can accept it when it comes and be happily surprised when it doesn't. I certainly don't want LeBron to win rings/ring. Let me say this though, Oscar Robertson played against bad white guys. He's like Babe Ruth where it's impossible to know how good he'd be in the modern era. I personally think he'd be a hall of famer, but he sure as hell wouldn't be averaging a triple double. kobe was a fully developed killer at 22. wade was a fully developed killer at 24. i don't see the instinct, i don't see the competitiveness, i don't see the defense. either of those other guys will rip your still-beating heart out at step on it right in front of you. lebron will put you in a headlock and push you around a little bit and probably smell awful.
  11. i just watched schlereth say that kyle orton is better than cutler, essentially. i honestly think that he's trying to make bronco fans feel better about losing a superstar.
  12. he can be the greatest p[layer of all time like oscar robertson was the greatest player of all time. i will take killers. if anyone wants to say that i'm being subjective, well, okay, but lebron is not a killer. a great player, wonderfully athletic and dominant physically. he is a whirling dirvish with the basketball, a tigger, a bounder, a dunker, an incredible hulk, a man among boys. but he is not a killer.
  13. 8 in the box, we dare you.
  14. jordan dispatched any and all players that challenged him. i don't buy that jordan didn't compete against top-level performers. the 1992 dream team is largely recognized as the greatest team ever assembled. yeah, jordan played against all of those guys and beat their brains in.
  15. schlereth is a delusional denver homer. uh, we lost both our tackles. how can he see that as a bad thing? does he even watch football?
  16. I kinda have that issue too. I'm not sure what I'm in for.... plus, my kid would have to sleep in a drawer.
  17. I think your crazy. you left Seattle after all. da job wuz in denver. i had to go wherever it went. the kick in the ass is that i could get the same job, today, in seattle. but i'd have to sell my house in 2 days and raise 3 grand to move because i'm sure they wouldn't pay for it.
  18. someone tell jamelle cornley that penn state did not just win "some type of national championship."
  19. Oline is set now LT LG C RG RT Pace Omiyale Kreutz Garza Williams Williams Beekman Beekman Buenning Shaeffer WR/S/DE left take care of. shaeffer starts at RG.
  20. i think the trade really helps the broncos, too. you may think i'm crazy, but i see orton as a potential tom brady-type in mcdaniels's offense. and i think mcdaniels sees it as well.
  21. do you think pace found out about the trade and was like "oh [expletive]! where do i sign?"
  22. i'm watching cutler highlights on espnews and i have to say that that arm is an absolute thing of beauty. he has a different release, but that velocity and spiral scream brett favre.
  23. exactly. and no, i'm not going to temper my excitement with "we'll get a few good years out of him, hopefully." he's a pro-bowl quarterback and the best thing that's happened to our franchise in a long time. this is the biggest move the bears have ever made, ever. he is our quarterback of the past, present, and the future.
  24. this honestly makes my year. i'm sorry i ever said anything about you, jerry, and we'll all stop whining about never having a quarterback, now.
  25. espn reporting it, too.
