  1. Sounds pretty passive aggressive in a french accent. in france, i think you can say anything on tv, as long as you're insulting someone in a whiny voice.
  2. guys were gushing about wood and prior, especially prior, calling him the greatest pitcher in college history and a future hall of famer. once batters understand that the only way to beat strasburg is to stretch him out, they will start stretching him out.
  3. can you say "you son of a bitch!" on cable tv?
  4. yes, nothing is going to change. the cubs will still be bad regardless of manager.
  5. can we please hire a guy without any kind of personality and just does what he's told? then hire a GM who is good at telling people what to do.
  6. I didn't get to see the whole game, but were there other calls where they hounded him for an explanation? Referees are used to calling games with languages they don't know, there isn't a ton of verbal interaction on the field. he didn't even name a player, though, no pointing, he should at least be able to do that, it's kind of universal. besides, this wasn't a normal call, it was a call to disallow the go-ahead goal in the final 5 minutes. he can't give an explanation in the form of a point and gesture? i know you're just defending international soccer and in the process playing the devil's advocate, but there's absolutely no good foothold anywhere for a defense of this call.
  7. did the ref say that it was a foul on bocanegra? it would be like a ref calling a holding penalty on a game-winning touchdown and refusing to name what kind of call it was until he got an opportunity to watch the film. That's what the official word was, it's not from the ref's mouth. I don't know why he didn't tell the players on the field, my first instinct is that the language barrier was the big reason. That in itself is not a terribly uncommon situation. yeah but if it was a language barrier, how come they didn't have any problems understanding his other calls? and if that were the case, you'd think fifa would want their refs to be able to understand a semblance of english, or at least be able to express who a penalty is on (pointing) and what it is (another hand gesture). that's essentially what basketball referees do without even saying anything. i don't buy the sosa defense.

  9. hamhuis was the fellow whom truffle and i had a brief snit over regarding his flopping in game 5. gotcha
  10. yeah, it makes me appreciate chatty baseball umpires a lot more. even if they blow the call, they stick to their guns, they tell us what they saw, even if they missed it.
  11. if they don't get a win during group play, do they really deserve to advance? (even though they really should have won today and it was taken away from them by a disgrace)
  12. Wekse can do it in 3. true
  13. it's still pretty funny, but yeah , haha
  14. if he made that call against any other country, he would be dead in 6 months.
  15. What were you watching? You don't think the LBs would have been better with Urlacher and Pisa in there instead of Hillenmeyer and Williams or whoever was in there? Watch the Cincinnati game again and see Benson getting to the outside because the linebackers could get there quick enough. Or see Palmer buying time because the blitz couldn't get through and find wide open guys. The LBs had a couple of decent games, but by no means were they a strength IMO. i don't think it would have been very different at all with urlacher and pisa in there. the linebackers stepped up and if you don't undertsnad that, i have a hard time believing that you were watching the games. they were a total strength between a couple of disasters. they did the best they could behind a line that got routinely blown up, and couldn't blitz only because it took all of four offensive linemen to block the guys with their heands on the ground. they were stretched thin and played great, did the best they could to cover the other gaping holes in the d.
  16. jeffrey jordan? Marcus. Yeah Jeff is a classy dude. Marcus is the douche
  17. He's the Jake lamotta of soccer.
  18. Christianity is way more popular worldwide
  19. The linebackers weren't the problem last year, they were a strength and I don't think it would have been significantly better with urlacher and pisa. Although roach got reps, that was good.
  20. I really like Bolland. And I think you trade the guys who get you the most in return, not necessarily the guys you think you can most afford to lose. In that case, we should trade toews right away. Obviously I'm talking about among the group of possible trade bait. There's a balance either way. If you can get a ton for Sharpie, you do it. But he wouldn't be my first choice to trade because his real value to perceived value isn't as gapped as others' are, imo.

  22. first of all, if you don't think punching a dirty cabbie in the face over and over while screaming "DON'T YOU KNOW WHO I AM?" is pretty [expletive] sweet, you are lame as hell. second of all, i can't wait to see what he does next.
  23. i change my opinion. no one is right
  24. i wasn't attemtping to hate on soccer. i still enjoy it every 4 years, i just suggested that they should have power plays to increase scoring chances from time to time. It's the world's most popular game, it generates billions and it's been played for hundreds of years. They've got a pretty good handle on what works and what doesn't. The people who check in for a few hours every four years who seem to think this is some cute, poorly organized game that needs improvement are annoying. i don't think it's cute or poorly organized, either. just giving some feedback as to how it could appeal to more americans, which is a pretty big market. I WANT POWER PLAYS
