    Is it just me, or is every single CBS sports writer a raging meathead? meatball. if he were a meathead he'd call trestman a little dweeb.

    We let him go. Emery had to let him go after interviewing him for HC position and not giving it to him. I'm not so sure it's such a huge loss. Special team success relies as much on the emphasis placed on it by the people in charge as anything else. Toub was fortunate to work in an organization that did more for special teams work than the offense. Almost from the beginning they were drafting guys like Manning and Hester with a huge emphasis on their return ability instead of what they can do the rest of the time on the field. this is exactly what i was getting at, too. the bears drafted special teams players and it worked relatively well at times but wasn't enough to make them a perennial playoff team. it was to the detriment of the offense because the athletes they were drafting were useless and unusable on the offensive side of the ball.

    that's a little pessimistic. by all accounts emery did a ton of homework on this hire and believes trestman to be the best candidate.

    we wasted two picks at the back of the draft on potential special teamers and our first round pick was taken, in part, because he could play special teams, too. that kind of nonsense has to end.

    hmmm, i thought they were ranked something like 8th and 9th the last couple of years. but a lot of that was lovie, he overvalued special teams and it supplemented the defense well. however, let's draft more players that have a shot of playing every down on offense or defense and have less of an eye on if they are special teams material.

    awesome. so we keep the good and get rid of the bad. Except for Toub. true. but it's not like he coached an elite unit the last couple of years. he's a good coach, though.

    I'm liking it less and less. The west coast offense's time has passed. Trestman is going to struggle to get the respect of players and other coaches with his very poor resume. Much like Lovie's first coaching staff with the Bears, that was filled with a bunch of college coaches, I am very concerned about having a GM with very little NFL experience hiring a coach with minimal NFL experience that has gone stale. What he did in the mid-90's is not going to fly in 2012. Trestman is going to have to spend months reteaching himself the league. He hasn't seen an NFL talent in practice in 8 years, and that was with a pathetic Dave Wanndstedt team in Miami. What kind of offense do the Packers run? yeah, i'm hoping trestman's offense is closer to mccarthy's than norv turner's.

    i want bevell. the seahawks offense was unstoppable at the end of the year. he turned a rookie qb taken in the 3rd round into one of the top qbs in the league. part of that is wilson's ability to run, but cutler can move effectively enough, is taller with a better arm.

    If Marinelli stays, he'll have total autonomy of the defense. Even though he's been DC the past number of years, its always been Lovie's defense. I'd like to think Marinelli would like that opportunity. Its been Lovie's defense but Marinelli comes from the Dungy tree and I believe ran a heavy Cover 2 defense in Detroit. I get what you are saying about Lovie being very hands on defensively but Marinelli was calling the plays as far as I could tell. I don't think it would be a huge difference especially given the fact that he's been running Lovie's D the last 2 years and the players on D will almost certainly be very similar next year and the defense was among the leagues best last year. I really don't like that Toub might be moving on too. I would hope to keep the units that have worked well over the last several years as similar as we can, at least as it pertains to the coaching staff. Probably wont happen though. yeah, there's not much variance in the cult of the tampa-2. they all have similar views and it mostly comes from monte kiffin, i believe. i'm cool with it.

    i can't believe that the bears are going to hire a guy that doesn't coach american football. it would be like hiring a janitor to be your curling coach.
