  1. I don't know what's going to happen. I do know that Martz didn't want Hanie, that Angelo essentially forced Hanie on Martz, and that the 2011 season was lost the second Hanie stepped foot on the field. On the surface it looks to me that Jerry lost a power struggle and that Lovie will get one more chance. It makes plenty of sense to bring back Martz in that situation. I don't see the evidence that Martz and Lovie were aligned in some kind of power struggle against Angelo. Maybe either of them individually but I never got the impression that Martz and Lovie were some strong tandem. I think Martz is gone. i wouldn't be heartbroken either way. i think cutler needs to have the game in his hands the way that rodgers does. then again, the martz system under cutler actually worked.
  2. A big name GM? I have a lot of doubts they will. A big name GM won't settle for being told he has to keep the coach. And I think the Bears organization loves Lovie. Maybe I'm wrong and George is desperate to get his mom a title before she dies. But it shouldn't be hard for Lovie, Martz and a personel guy to recruit any free agent WR, if they want one. i hope you're right. but i think we'll need someone upstairs to put a package together to move up in the draft. i would give up our first this year and next next year and our second this year to take get blackmon. i have no idea if that would be acceptable, though. No thanks. That's a Cutler package. They already gave up 2 1st in recent years and they have far too many upcoming needs on defense to be giving away that many picks. it's not a cutler package because we still get a #1 pick this year.

  4. My money is that it has to do with Lovie/Martz vs Jerry/Caleb. This season ended when Caleb Hanie stepped on the field and Jerry pushed him on Martz, who did not want him at all. They will go with Lovie/Martz/Tice/Marinelli and have some internal guy be the vice president of player personel or some such thing. If it goes well, Lovie will have a chance to hire his "boss", if it doesn't, they will hire a new guy next year and clean house. we're going to need a #1 WR, though, and I'm not sure that kind of lack of structure at the top for the time being would be very good for that. i think they go with a big name, although that may not be what is best for this org.
  5. for the record, i hate the polians
  6. i don't get all the happiness for firing angelo. if cutler doesn't go down, we're a top 5 team in the NFL. it's his fault for not carrying a capable backup, but he put together a good team. this could have more to do with the polians being ousted in indy.
  7. lovie's been fine, we're in the playoffs at 12-4 or 11-5 if our franchise doesn't go down. i think that the offensive line is set going into next year with williams and carimi coming back. i was ecstatic about carimi when we drafted him and most here were too. if we can get a good WR who is ready to contribute right away then i think we're challenging the packers for the division.
  8. didn't lucas like totally wreck the rucker park league last year or something?
  9. i can't believe i'm actually concerned that CJ could be out, but i am. he's been pretty good this year.
  10. that's what we call the fast times at ridgemont high
  11. is this memphis team running the bruce weber motion?
  12. Remember when you used to update Tebow's record after every game? Remember when you thought Tebow was good? Oops. i don't remember bears fans saying stafford wasn't good.
  13. so glad we started everyone.
  14. i'm going to be sick
  15. no, no pixie dust. this is why we absolutely must have tom clements if green bay ever lets him accept a promotion.
  16. miserable chucking heathens, godless savages.
  17. i think he solidified the idea that the difference between jay cutler and aaron rodgers might not be so great as thought. You might have been the only person to see Matt Flynn throw for almost 500 yards and think that this makes a Bears player look good. no, flynn did this last year, too. to me it tells me that you can plug anyone into that offense with those weapons and succeed.
  18. 100% agree. shouldn't the term honeybadger be reserved for a gay wisconsin player?

  20. i don't see a black coach helping us with recruiting in chicago unless he's a former public league coach or something. those guys are very clique-y. oliver purnell is doing ok there, but he was at once ostracized when he told those coaches he wouldn't make sure they get paid. purnell, after all, runs a clean program. he's made inroads since then, but just because he's black doesn't endear him to those guys. they want guys who are willing to do whatever it takes to get the kids, regardless of color.
  21. i bet he would. there aren't going to be any openings at any top programs anytime soon and xavier is not a destination job. illinois is a big ten program that gets plenty of publicity, regularly gets top 100 recruits of the 4-star variety, and is getting a renovation job on the assembly hall. furthermore, mike thomas is from cincinnati and i'm sure knows mack well. the last 2 coaches left for illinois-type programs, also. as far as the alumni thing, i don't see that as that big of a factor when we're talking xavier. it didn't stop lickliter (butler being a very comparable school to xavier) from going to iowa, and iowa ain't illinois. illinois is still seen as a very good job, no matter how much iowa folks would like to deny it.
  22. good, he'll probably get some money to start somewhere
  23. if flynn a free agent? i certainly hope the packers don't get to trade him
  24. of course we win
