  1. why put off jay learning a new offense another year? and why replace smith when he wasn't the problem? lovie has been a good coach, he's been a level head and he's well-respected among all of his players. i'm betting that the bears' brass knew that they may have a full-scale mutiny on their hands if they got rid of lovie, the 4 leaders of this defense are sworn to him. i don't believe that lovie is on his last legs with this franchise and i wouldn't be surprised to see him extended before they hire a new coordinator, as a token of good faith for both he and the incoming OC. like i said, if they want to get a GM that's comfortable with smith, they'll most likely hire mckenzie. mckenzie and smith will work together, find a new OC from outside the organization and start fresh. we CAN start fresh with our old coach, as i said, the defense isn't the problem, it works. let's focus on getting the offense in shape with a new, fresh system that cutler can drive right away.
  2. i like it because lovie is a good coach, and i want him here because his defensive scheme works and has worked and the players will die for him. this also sends the message that lovie is NOT on the hot seat and the incoming OC can make himself comfortable. we're bringing in mckenzie, i'd put money on it, and hopefully he'll be able to bring clements, and we'll all be one happy family. that's building long-term with the coach we have now.
  3. it's definitely going to be mckenzie
  4. That's a personel issue. So are we throwing it just to throw it or are we throwing it because we're good at it? That's my point. It's a passing league, but the Bears shouldn't be passing just because everyone else is. They suck at it, so they should run more because they were actually good at it. the bears suck at passing? jay cutler WAS the offense for the past 3 years. he was all alone fighting zombies on an alien homeworld and he was good at it.
  5. you mean when they have good quarterbacks. you don't run for the sake of running when your quarterback is aaron rodgers.
  6. Because their QB is the best player on the field. exactly. THEY HAVE JAY CUTLER.
  7. Why do people keep asking this question? Everybody in the NFL is one season away from potentially being fired. I'm sure the new guy will get a 2-3 year contract, depending on how in demand he is. The Bears job offers a lot of potential. It's one of only 32 OC positions in the NFL, and several of those are OC in name only, since the head coach is the real guy in control. Yes, everyone is 1 season away from being fired, but why go into a situation that looks like only 1 year is the most likely scenario. It's why Bates choose Seattle over the Bears. It's why other OCs weren't jumping at a chance to come here 2 years ago. The only way a new guy comes in, I believe, is if he has a legit shot at being a head coach in the very near future. AKA an experienced OC or a former HC. wasn't bates fired after 1 year? haha
  8. Pass-happy is good. The Bears had the 9th most rushing attempts in the league. Missing out on another year of Cutler in his prime was no blessing. yes. it is a passing league, what is everyone's fixation with going back to the days of the wing-t? People that keep preaching "it's a passing league" are just as bad as the people who want to run the ball more. You do whatever works best. It's only a passing league if it works. The Bears were a good running team, why take that away? The Bears gave up a ton of sacks the last 2 years, why continue to try and pass? The Bears having the 9th most rushing attempts is a good thing when Forte was 6th in the league in yards per carry for RBs with over 150 carries (2nd for RBs over 200 carries). The Bears having the 9th most passing attempts would be bad if they got sacked once every 7 passes like last year. The Bears don't magically win or lose based on whether they run or pass the ball a certain number of times. no, but the teams that pass are the teams that win, regardless of what the bears do.
  9. that's great. Who is he? tom clements
  10. Pass-happy is good. The Bears had the 9th most rushing attempts in the league. Missing out on another year of Cutler in his prime was no blessing. yes. it is a passing league, what is everyone's fixation with going back to the days of the wing-t?
  11. Agreed. But it was stupid 2 years ago when Lovie was a lameduck coach and brought in Martz. That was the time to get a long-term OC. That's why I think Tice should get the job. He's a stopgap that doesn't cause any drastic changes. He doesn't make it 6 different offenses in 7 years if another lame duck is brought in. If Lovie stays and an outside OC is brought in, my guess is that means Lovie is here for the long haul, unless that OC is also being earmarked for the HC position in a year. i can't disagree with your logic, and i DO think that lovie deserves more time to prove that he can win a super bowl. i definitely do not want to change up the defense in any way. it's just i think running someone else's offense is weird. where is brad childress these days?
  12. Tice is from the Coryell tree also. Part of the issue with Martz was his play calling. Tice, I think, would know not to throw a screen on 1st and goal when you've run 3 times for 35 yards on the previous plays. Tice would know not to run a reverse to your slowest WR in the closing minutes of the game before the Superbowl. ron turner is from the coryell tree, too, though. martz runs a drastically different version than anyone else does.
  13. i want jay running the packers' offense in the worst way
  14. i don't want to be running martz's offense without martz calling the plays and i doubt that tice wants it to be foisted upon him, either.
  15. The Packers, Saints, and Patriots all invested a top half of the draft pick to get their tight ends. In New England's case, they used two of 'em. Not saying it's vital but it's worth a look. Certainly wouldn't hurt to go from nonexistent production at TE to something approaching league average. We spent 5 years listening to people whine about TE while Desmond Clark was a perfectly average TE because people were obsessed with Gates and Gonzalez. It got annoying. And I can tell it's going to get annoying again. The point is there are MUCH BIGGER fish to fry instead of worrying about filling Ditka's position again. The correlation between having a productive receiving TE and having a high caliber offense has gotten a lot stronger since then. The best offenses are investing in them and featuring them and not using stop gap solutions. We do not have much bigger fish to fry than getting Cutler more viable targets. A tight end COULD be a big part of that. i like kellen davis, i think he can do it all. i really do, he just hasn't been showcased.
  16. Repost? Yes, please. http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/bears/post/_/id/4674747/ruskell-not-likely-angelos-replacement and have him bring clements with him
  17. Not sure why a guy that is already an NFL OC would want to come to the Bears, especially from a team with more offensive talent, like the Saints. chance to call plays?
  18. tom clements please
  19. I have been obsessed with the offensive line, but the Bears were really good last year with a terrible one. he drafted 16 pro bowlers, which might not be a great resume, but it's certainly not unimpressive as far as league GMs go. i think the offensive line is fixed, actually. we lost our best 2 offensive linemen this year.
  20. the TE position just seems to be a poor reason to criticize martz. if you're going to criticize him, criticize him for something else.
  21. i can't believe that they'd deny him the opportunity again. that's just evil.
  22. Because it would be Cutler's 5th offense in the last 6 years (Shanahan to McDaniels, to Turner to Martz). Plus, if the Bears don't make the playoffs next year, there's a possibility that the whole staff gets fired. That would mean a 6th OC in 7 years for Cutler. i don't think offenses are as tough to pick up as people think. i think martz's is difficult, but not all of them are like that.
  23. I don't know what's going to happen. I do know that Martz didn't want Hanie, that Angelo essentially forced Hanie on Martz, and that the 2011 season was lost the second Hanie stepped foot on the field. On the surface it looks to me that Jerry lost a power struggle and that Lovie will get one more chance. It makes plenty of sense to bring back Martz in that situation. But that assumes Lovie and Martz got along. There were reports each of the last 2 years that Lovie was not OK with the run/pass ratio early in the seasons. Playcalling has been an issue. Getting play calls in from him up in the booth has been an issue. who is in the quarterback's ear? i always thought martz was talking to him. i don't understand why there has to be a middle man between martz and cutler.
  24. What? yeah, i thought about it again and i'm stupid
