  1. And to think this is a guy who not too long ago felt insulted by a 4yr/$60M offer.
  2. It'll be interesting to see if Dusty makes a habit of this. He has a history of becoming temporarily infatuated with particular relievers and using them constantly.
  3. Just for fun I looked at Eyre's game logs going back through 2003 to see if he had thrown 37 or more pitches in a game. He hadn't. I'm not saying he can't handle it, I just thought it was funny that he set a mark like this in the opening day of his first season with Dusty Baker. I did see he threw 36 a few times, so I guess it's okay for him to do this occasionally.
  4. I can see Dunn being shipped to the AL at the break.
  5. I've always thought Kerry had the best stuff.
  6. I liked fat Z better. Somebody get him a box of jelly doughnuts stat.
  7. Eyre and Howry will have to earn some of their huge paychecks today.
  8. Lee got some calls that probably should have been strikes, but the calls looked ok in the other at bats.
  9. P Justin Berg The odds of that guy ever reaching the majors are about 1 in a million. Is he really that bad? I haven't followed his career.
  10. Dusty can't do math. In a Score interview not too long ago he talked about what he had thought Hollandsworth could do for a full season based on a "half season" of at bats in the previous year. Somebody should have let Dusty know that 167 plate appearances is not one half, but rather one quarter of a season for an everyday player.
  11. That just leads me to believe the Cubs could have gone 20-12 in those games with a better lineup.
  12. I much enjoyed seeing Alex Gonzalez get 312 at bats in front of Sammy Sosa in 2003.
  13. You may think I'm exaggerating for effect, but while watching the NLCS I actually wondered if Dusty was mildly [expletive]. I'm not joking.
  14. Guthrie vs. Lowell in game 1. After the game Dusty said he put in the lefty Guthrie because the Marlins had LH-swinging Lenny Harris on their bench. He preferred to face Lowell. Mark Prior, the most overworked pitcher in baseball at the time, throws 116 pitches with an 11 run lead. After the game Dusty said he had Prior on a 115 pitch count. Apparently the 11 run lead meant nothing to Dusty. Prior subsequently melts down in the 8th inning of his next start(game 6). The closer Borowski watches from the bullpen as the 3 run lead disappears. A laboring Kerry Wood stays in game 7 for 5.2 innings and gives up 7 runs. Zambrano and Clement, both on several days rest, are spectators. Veres(.359 BAA vs. RH batters) faces Gonzalez. Dumbest pitching move I have ever seen.
  15. The only player I want to get hurt is Bonds, and even in his case I just want him hurt bad enough to cause retirement. I don't wish permanent pain/disability on him, although he probably deserves a little bit of that.
  16. What would be really funny is their mock marriage developing into an actual romance, a forbidden passion on the baseball diamond. I smell a movie deal in that story.
  17. I noticed ZZThorn has returned. Is he really back or is it a mod playing an April Fool's joke?
  18. Nice to see someone carrying the torch in my absense. But they're not worth the trouble. Dusty Busters never learn. Welcome back!
  19. Even Todd Hollandsworth got 5 weeks, and he had no business being a starter in the first place.
  20. Poor Neifi was cheated of many GIDPs because the leadoff hitters weren't getting on base in front of him. Granted, he made the most of the opportunities he did get, eliminating 22 baserunners who could have turned into RBIs for Lee.
  21. Ain't gonna happen. Why not? Given Kerry's history I think the burden of proof falls on you to prove that it will happen.
  22. Ain't gonna happen.
  23. I just heard on XM that Cox is probably going to keep Brian Jordan on the roster over some younger guy that hit over 400 in st (forgot his name). Because he looks at his bench and doesn't see any veterans there. He must have a veteran fetish? Or maybe he's going by Jordan's MLB track record and not some stats compiled over 20 st games. Jordans ops over the last 2 years 2005 638 2006 633 Last 3 years in MLB reg season vs. LHP: .297 .371 .498 .869 I'm guessing Cox wants a spot starter vs. LHP and an RH pinch hitter. Obviously he's not someone you want playing every day.
