  1. What (if any) downside do you see to Prior throwing 116 pitches in game 2? Just curious. That he stayed in 2 innings too long in a blowout win. What better time to give your bullpen a little work, especially with an day off the following day, than in a blowout? My main argument that it wasn't that one game that killed Prior, it was the whole season of being overworked and September in particular. As I said before, Prior also had 5 days off in between Games 2 and 6. If Prior wore down in Game 6, it wasn't 116 pitches in Game 2 that caused it. A lost opportunity to give the bullpen some work? Is that honestly the only downside you see to having Prior throw 116 pitches?
  2. We wanted Pierre to get hot enough to be traded, unfortunately he got hot enough for Jimbo to re-sign him. You gotta love this team.
  3. I don't understand why Hendry didn't hang to Williamson a while longer. Somebody could have gotten desperate and made a decent offer. It would have been a better gamble than putting any faith in either of the 2 schmucks Hendry ended up getting.

  5. Theriot looked weak in the field and at the plate. I don't blame Hendry for using Neifi over Theriot. I am not on the Theriot bandwagon. He looks to me to be nothing more than a utility/AAAA player. So what? Neifi is just a utility man, and he isn't even any good at that role. With some seasoning in 2006 Theriot could fill Neifi's role for the MLB minimum in 2007. I'd be very happy to have a quality utility man for $325K.
  6. Dusty also mentioned that he had Prior on a pitch count of 115. Apparently computing the significance of the 11 run lead re Prior's pitch count was too taxing for Dusty's brain.
  7. Ha, I remember writing something just like that on message boards back then.
  8. Would've rather seen Priest here. Def Leppard was one of the weaker 80's pop-metal acts.
  9. The blues-based rock guitar solo is dead. When people do one now it's a self-consciously retro/ironic move.
  10. One thing that really bugs me about the Ramones is that people only defend them based on their influence, not on their music. You never hear anyone say "Blitzkrieg Bop" was a masterpiece. At least with AC/DC people actually address their music when judging the band.
  11. Yes. Bleach for the debut album is rather amatuerish. It was in my CD jukebox a couple weeks ago, i hadnt listened to it in years, man its pretty unispriring except for About A Girl. Nevermind is a great album. Incesticide is a cover album that ok. In Utero is overproduced and isnt anything special. Unplugged is great but they are all songs done before except for a few. They have 1 solid album. Now its SOLID, but they have just one. I still lke them more than cream because of this one album. Bleach was recorded for about $200, of course it sounds amateurish. There are only 4 covers on Incesticide. The rest is unreleased recordings. Nevermind didn't sound amateurish enough. Cobain thought it sounded like a Motley Crue record and I totally agree, to my ears it sounds very similar to Dr. Feelgood, which is why I never liked it.
  12. If it were up to me DLee would stay on the DL til September. The only reason he's playing now is to give Dusty a chance to save his job.
  13. Pink Floyd had one #1 single ever. So they are worse than CCR too? I wasn't talking about record sales or chart positions. ok, I'll rephrase. After Syd Barrett left the group in late '67/early '68, Pink Floyd only released 2 singles, one of which went #1. So I restate my original question Zep didn't release singles either, but they had a lot of great individual tunes, which is what I was getting at in my original post. I probably shouldn't have used the term "single" to make my point.

  15. Nirvana is a bit overrated but not nearly as much as Cream. Jam rock always gets the thumbs-down from me.
  16. That's a good vocal. Great intense soul/gospel feel there.
  17. CCR. The Doors' output was too uneven and they lacked enough really great singles.
  18. Cubs fans are in a sour mood because of this horrible season. Negativity reigns. If the team were playoff-bound the fans would be more charitable to Sammy.
  19. Police. This is an easy one.
  20. How about Aram and Pierre, batting adjacent in the order? Aram has excellent ability to advance baserunners, Pierre has very poor ability to advance baserunners. Aram hits home runs, Pierre does not. Aram is a very slow runner who clogs basepaths, Pierre is a very fast runner who does not clog basepaths. How can it not make a difference which of these guys bats first? Bases don't get clogged. We all laugh about Dusty's baseclogging talk, but there are exceptionally slow runners who really do clog things up. Aram with a bad hammy is like having an arthritic granny on base.

  22. I've never believed it either. Nobody can make me believe it makes no difference if you bat Juan Pierre after Derrek Lee.
  23. Cubs offense is last in OBP, last in SLG, 2nd to last in HR, last in BB, last in runs scored. This is simply a terrible offense. Even with a healthy DLee it would have been bad.
  24. REM trasitioned into the VH1-yuppie-minivan-soccer-mom demographic way too easily, not that it ever surprised me. I admit they do what they do very well, which is to provide a thoroughly safe non-threatening way for people to feel slightly rebellious and in touch with their youth.
  25. Thing is, you could say retaining any manager provides stability, and obviously success in the job is not a criterion for Rogers, therefore Rogers' logic would dictate retaining Daffy Duck.
