  1. Putting Nomar at 2B seems like a pretty solid move. I would like to see him get some starts there this season.
  2. All these decisions would be a helluva lot easier if Murton and Cedeno had gotten a real audition. It's still not too late for Murton. We just need to move Lawton or Burnitz. Cedeno will unfortunately remain a question mark next spring.
  3. We could use a supersub type guy to spell Lee and Ramirez and Burnitz if he returns. These guys seem to have worn down and really should have had more days off.
  4. Looks like Hendry is making moves just to show management he's still trying to win.
  5. I'm torn on resigning Nomar. He just seems like a type of player that the organization should stop relying on. It's a real shame we still have no idea what Cedeno can do at the MLB level. If he had shown any flashes I would advocate letting Nomar go.
  6. We definitely need to take away Dusty's broken toys on the bench. Any bad choices of bench players often become disastrous on a Dusty Baker team.
  7. If you want to talk about perfect windows of opportunity which are now closed there is Ronny Cedeno. He just sat and watched horrible journeyman Neifi play, and now with Nomar back on the team Ronny's opportunity is gone.
  8. Calling up rookies to face only lefties is one of my pet peeves. There are just not enough starting LHP's to make it worthwhile for the team or the rookie. The Braves generally don't call up rookies unless they are prepared to let them face both lefties and righties, which IMO is the smart thing to do, unless the team believes the rookie in question will never amount to more than a part-time player.
  9. If we do fall out of contention it will be interesting to see how the shortstop situation plays out. What happens to Nomar? I'm sure he wants an audition for 2006, but in a lost season it would make more sense to play Cedeno. Does Neifi get released, as he should be? How would Dusty feel about that?
  10. I have no problem with moving south of the border. I wouldn't even mind seeing a team in Havana after Fidel is gone. Putting a team in a spanish-speaking city seems far more natural to me than a team in Montreal.
  11. I guess this means no Marquis Grissom for us. Darn.
  12. If the Cubs fall out of the race I'd like to see some kids play every day and some veterans traded or released. Building for the future is far more important than winning 82 in the present.
  13. Has MLB ever considered putting a team in Mexico City? Some non-Spanish-speaking players might be reluctant to go there but some Latin players who don't speak good English might actually prefer Mexico.
  14. The Virginia tidewater region has been mentioned as a place that could support baseball. I don't know the exact population of the area but it's pretty big and Virginia Beach attracts lots of vacationers in the summer. An NL team there would be a nice rival for the Nats.
  15. Why is Nomar still in the game? Dusty's usage pattern thusfar suggests he believes that Nomar is fragile and should be used sparingly, but he is still playing in a blowout. I don't see any logical consistency here.
  16. Probably a good time to let Cedeno play a couple of innings.
  17. Apparently Jose Macias is a defensive wizard in centerfield, therefore Matt sits.
  18. I'll agree with that. Besides, there's no way Dusty has a clue what any of this stuff is, so it's not like it could be used to defend his decision making. As far as Dusty knows, Matt's hitting .400 and doesn't deserve to start anyway. Matt's real problem is that he only bats right-handed. He won't help the Cubs much until Baker is gone, nor will any other RH hitter in the farm system. If Hendry is considering resigning Baker he needs to start trading all RH hitters in the minors whenever he can get good value for them.
  19. I totally agree that it's ridiculous that Burnitz starts almost every stinkin' game. He's not a superstar, he's slumping badly, and Murton could use some playing time.
  20. There are some many reasons why not. He is a very bad baseball player. Here's his line for the 2005 season. .212/.248/.285/.533 I think that line says enough. The very fact that the Cubs are interested shows that Grissom's numbers are not bad enough to discourage Hendry. Simon's and Neifi's season numbers were also terrible when they were acquired.
  21. You know what? You're right. You would know better than professional sports trainers with years of experience and firsthand knowledge of Nomar's swing and step. Excepting pitchers and catchers, baseball players don't even come close to pushing themselves to the point of muscle failure in a game. If Nomar can play a few innings without pain he ought to be able to play back to back games. I really can't see a shortstop making himself more fragile by playing more frequently. Now if the injury is still bothering him that's a different matter, but he looked pretty sound to me.
  22. There's no reason to ease Nomar back in. I watched his swings and they were very strong. He looked healthy to me.
  23. I've got the TV sound off and Pat and Ron on the radio. No reason to put up with the Fox clowns if you don't have to.
  24. I already believed Hendry should quit drafting hitters who only bat right-handed, now I believe he should no longer draft outfielders who can't play all 3 OF positions.
  25. I disagree. If there's one thing that can instantly catapult us back into WS contention it's the outstanding leather of Jose Macias in centerfield.
