  1. Conversations like this remind me of what a wimpy, wussy sport baseball is in a lot of ways.
  2. Yeah, I confused myself. Feel free to ignore me. :D
  3. I'm pretty sure he's not arbitration eligible.
  4. Poor white me :(
  5. dusty would, but it would be a result of hendry resigning macias to catch  Technically, they don't need Macias. Mabry is the emergency third catcher. Where did you get that information from? Wikipedia BTW, I think putting Barrett at 1B is weakening one spot to make another stronger. It doesn't help in the long run. Yeah, but the idea isn't for it to be permanent, but just to keep his bat in the game on days when he doesn't catch.
  6. According to espn, Pierre is 16th out of 24 qualifiers in BA, 21st in OBP, and 18th in SLG coming into today. He's also tied for last in walks and tied for 16th in runs.
  7. Hendry could have traded a box of Ramon noodles for Johnson. :D How would Ramon feel about that?
  8. .301 is still a terrible OBP, especially for a leadoff man. He needs to continue to pick it up to be worth considering giving an extension to, seeing as he's coming off a not-so-hot year. historically his obp will be 50-60 points above his BA. he'll be just fine. does he need to pick it up? of course and he has been doing so for the last week, if you've been watching. some people start out the season in slumps (Ramirez, cough, cough). it's early. why are you using .301 as the indicator of his abilities? Look, if you're going involve yourself in a discussion, you need to at least read what's being said before commenting, and avoid putting words into other people's mouths. Otherwise, kindly point out where I said that .301 was the indicator of his abilities. I used .301 because you used .301. See the stats at the top of the quote chain? Yeah, that was you talking, and that's what I was responding to. I said he needs to continue to step it up in order to be worth extending. In other words, .301 is not going to get it. You can't possibly disagree with that, can you? So what are you arguing about? I didn't put words in your mouth. I'm sorry that you think so. Feel free to be offended. What can I be arguing about - the same point I made in the post you obviously read (w/ Pierre's stats). It's early. historically Pierre hasn't been anywhere near .301 over 162 games (especially not when completely healthy). Telling me I'm using .301 as the indicator of his abilities is absolutely putting words in my mouth, because I neither believed nor indicated any such thing. The point I'm making is that there is no way I extend Pierre for the level of production he's currently providing. If he shows that he is better than he's shown so far (considerably better--2005 Pierre isn't worth extending, either, and .301 is a lot closer to .326 than it is to the .365-.380 range of his prime), then it's worth considering. If he doesn't, then he's not. Ramirez's slow start has nothing to do with whether Pierre should be extended or not.

  10. No one is talking about long term extensions for Cedeno, Murton, and Ramirez. Where has anyone been unreasonable about Pierre in this thread? That's not the point. You said he has been "terrible"; then I guess some of your more favored guys have been terrible too, eh? We all favor ARam, and for a guy making over 10-mill year, he's been putrid. Ready to give up on him yet? Um, that's exactly the point. Or did you not notice the thread title?
  11. The Pirates would then potentially have the lefthandedest rotation ever.

  13. It's a huge stretch to say that his speed caused an error on a play in which a throw wasn't even made. And considering Pierre gets more at-bats than anybody and rarely walks, counting his hit totals doesn't say a lot for how effective he's been, does it? I am pleased with how good he's been stealing, which makes me even more annoyed that Baker apparently chose to bunt with Cedeno TWICE with nobody out and Pierre on base--once at first--today. What a waste of a .370 hitter. Walker leading off in '04 was much better than Pierre has been. MUCH better.
  14. I would hope the leadoff hitter would be leading the team in runs when the best hitter is out and the second best hitter has been hitting under .200 until recently. That doesn't really determine how valuable he has been. And the argument of "if" versus "when" on Pierre turning it around would be more appreciable if it weren't for the fact that he wasn't very good last year, either; that his game is extremely one-dimensional; and that his defense hasn't been particularly good, either. Aramis hasn't been anything close to awful in four years, is 3 years younger, and a much better overall player. There really isn't much of a comparison. Eric Patterson isn't leading off right now; he's batting 2nd. Today he stole 3 bases, making him 10 for 12 on the year, and he came into the day hitting .302/.357/.460. I think he's certainly capable of leading off--the question is essentially when, which is contingent upon his further development. it's too early at this point to say whether he might be ready to jump to the bigs next year or possibly even late this year. I feel safer saying that Pie is very close.
  15. Pierre hasn't proven very valuable so far. I hope that changes, but if it doesn't, there's no way I want him back--especially with two quality prospects having the potential to lead off (not that I would necessarily lead off Pie) looking to be major league ready soon. Pierre's people apparently want to wait until after the season to talk extension. That's just fine with me.
  16. Pitcher Change: Augie Ojeda replaces Michael Wuertz, batting 9th.
  17. See what happens when you LET THE KID HIT?!
  18. haha, dude swears like a pirate. Luckily he doesn't pitch like one. How do pirates pitch?
  19. Well, I'm done for a little while. Off to watch Suns/Lakers. Thank goodness for Gameday.
  20. Yes it does. If you reach on an error, you get charged an AB, 0 for 1. And for OBP it counts as a reached base safely. Wait, I got my conversations crossed. I was talking about on bunts.
  21. Seriously, what's the point of having a one-dimensional singles and base stealing leadoff hitter if you're going to give up a freaking out just to get him to second? Thank you, Aramis.
  22. It lowers your BA as though it were an out, so it must lower your OBP as well, no? It *doesn't* lower your BA. It does lower your OBP, as that's taken from total plate appearances.
  23. Is there a defensive version of Hacking Mass? I want to draft Aaron Miles. QUIT TAKING THE BAT OUT OF RONNY'S HANDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  24. Wow, they caught a runner? With Maddux pitching?
