  1. We already have a 2/3 pitcher. We need a true ace. He's not the answer.
  2. I hope they DO work on his 3B play. So far, it hasn't worked. It would be great if they can fill that black hole internally for minimum salary! Even if it's just until Shaw comes up.
  3. Morel has played about 1500 innings at 3B. He could have played there last year. But the Cubs chose to put a guy who's never played the position in his life there over Morel. I think the Cubs know that he's pretty much a DH for the most part.
  4. For the cost vs production, I think that Morel is the better option.
  5. The waiver time started yesterday for these guys. Six more days in which they can be claimed. If nobody picks them up, they remain with the Cubs but not on the 40 man roster. As long as they don't have 6 years of service time, they have to remain a Cub.
  6. I read it the day you posted it. A lot of efforet was put in to it.
  7. Absolutely!!! The question is, will they?
  8. Using the CBT as the budget, they currently sit 47 million below that number. That's including every arb guys projection. If they pick up Kyle's 16 million, they now have 31 million to spend. Maybe Gomes' 6 million? The number would now sit at 25 million to spend. They better hope that Stroman opts out, freeing up another 23.7 million of tax money. If they pick up Kyle, and Stroman doesn't opt out, they don't have much money to spend this off season unless they plan on blowing by the CBT. Which they should, as they're shedding another 50 million after 2024
  9. I completely understand all of this. But AFTER a player is already signed, it really no longer matters. Last year, Soto was -8 runs prevented, and -9 OAA. So defensively, he cost his team 8 runs, and 9 outs. By simply getting him out of the OF and having him DH increases his field value to the team. I believe that positional adjustment only really works if a player is a positive defensive player. Taking a positive defensive player and pulling him off the field to be the DH, hurts the field value for the team. If a guy is costing them runs and outs while being out there, by removing him and having him just hit, obviously helps the field value for the team. There's nothing value wise that's negative by taking a great hitter, who loses value because of his defensive, and not having him play defensive anymore. All his negative value is now removed from the equation. He's now more valuable. He has more value to the team by DH'ing, and not playing OF.
  10. If they are both on the team at their current salaries, the Cubs will be 31 million under the CBT. So unless they blow by the threshold, the FA signing will be pretty weak. Pick up Gomes option, and they have 25 million to spend. If they don't pick up any options, and Stroman opts out, the Cubs will be a little under 71 million below the CBT.
  11. I hope he opts out for not just his meh pitching, but to free up almost 25 million to go get a true ace! Yoshi please!
  12. Just knowing who you are as a poster, I feel confident that this is how it is.
  13. That doesn't seem right comparing AA to him. Adbert was never posted because Venezuela is different from the Japan league. AA was a FA when he signed, who is treated just like any other player signed or drafted. He's going through the arb process and will be a FA in 2027.
  14. Yes...I've seen nothing about him being a FA or arb. It's pretty unusual actually. I'm confused on how he can become arb eligible after his contract expires. Who's the arb team? He's no longer under contract with any team. Wouldn't that technically make him a FA? I mean, how can his 4 year deal expire with the Pads, and then they still have arb control over him? It just doesn't make sense.
  15. From what I see, he's getting 8 million this season, and in 2024 he gets 7 million with a 2 million mutual option. I assume that he becomes a FA if the option is not picked up?
  16. I would say that the whole purpose is to lower his pay, to help the CBT. Pay him his 1.5 million opt out money, and then sign him for something like 2/20. At least that what I expect. I'd prefer they move on from him completely and take the staff in a different direction. That extra money will come in handy to improve other black holes.
  17. Funny story about Mitch. The Twins have spring training in Fort Myers. Before we moved down here 1.5 years ago, we would rent out our place in the winter. In the winter of 2021, we rented our place to Garver during ST. We have electric stoves down here, and if your not used to it, sometimes the stove is still on when you think it's off. Anyway, Garver left one of our new pots on the stove and burnt the crap out of it!
  18. Take a look at Justin's IP since they drafted him. If I didn't know any better, they were training him not to be able to pitch deep in to the season. Injuries or not, they just didn't pitch him. It almost looks like they were grooming him for the pen.
  19. I know bud. But if it was up to me, he would take that type of route with the staff. It would also throw an additional arm in the pen the first 2 months and last month of the season. The first 2 months are when their arms are the freshest, and having a 4 many rotation would be pretty easy, I believe. Not doing it is more about contracts, and agents.
  20. What don't you believe? That I want to see my best starter getting way more starts than my bad starters?
  21. What do you want? Your best pitchers get 15 starts?? Believe me, the pitchers will be fine. After several months off, resting, going with a 4 man rotation until summer will work just fine.
  22. Why would you want your best two pitcher to pitch less often. And your two worst pitchers pitch more often. Give me the 4 man rotation. Teams don't even have 5 very good pitchers. I would actually try this. The first 2 months, I'm pitching my four best guys as my rotation. In June, July, and August, I'd add a 5th pitcher to help them out in the hot months. In September, I'm dropping the worst pitcher and bringing it home with the best I have. The more often our best pitchers pitch, the better chance of winning games.
  23. I'm using MLB grades with FG dollar amounts, so it works out better. FG grades are very tough on players.
  24. I think that they are way off with their estimate. Soto is a one year rental. I'm going to use numbers from sites that do this kind of stuff, and not my numbers. Trade Simulator has Soto as the high end of surplus at about 28 million. FG has a 50 FV at about 28 million in surplus. They have a 45 FV at about 7 million. Using MLB prospects rankings, we have (1) 60 FV, (5) 55 FV, (5) 50 FV, and (12) 45 FV. If the Cubs don't want to "overpay," they should send over ONE of our 50 FV guys, or 4 of our 45 FV guys. I can't imagine the Cubs sending over two 55 FV prospects for Soto. That's about 80 million in surplus value. I can't even imagine them sending over ONE 55 FV guy for him, without them send a nice chunk back. IF they are going to receive Brown and Caissie for example, they should send back Lesko and and a smaller piece back with Soto.
