  1. If a player was in the system on Aug 31st and not on the 40 by Sep 1, he is not playoff eligible. A player who doesn't meet said criteria for postseason eligibility can still be added to a team's roster in the postseason via petition to the Commissioner's Office if the player was in the organization on Aug. 31 and is replacing someone who is on the injured list and has served the minimum amount of time required for activation.
  2. Playoff eligible players have to be on the 40 by Sep 1. With an injury to a player on the 26 man roster, the Cubs could petition to the commissioner to put PCA on the 40 and make him playoff eligible. But that player must have served his minimum time on the DL
  3. This guy is a huge fly ball pitcher. With the wind not being a factor today, I expect multiple home runs today.
  4. Ross was pretty clear that this will be the lineup moving forward. He'l tweak it against LHP
  5. That does not include the 60 day DL guys.
  6. Whoever is not on the 40 by midnight ET, are not play off roster eligible. I full expect both of those guys to be added today. They would be out of their minds to leave two roster spots open before the playoffs.
  7. Moving forward, I'm quite a bit more optimistic than you are. Most of the data we have, is from his old approach. If this is the new Suzuki, I'm throwing the old data in the garbage.
  8. This looks about as good as the lineup can be. I would switch Tauchman and Happ. Either way, I like it!
  9. He doesn't have durability issues. It's just his developmental plan by the Cubs.
  10. Well, that's not a piggy back start then. So what's his pitch count limit per game for the rest of the year?
  11. I agree with needing it. But I think that everybody watching the game should be able to tell a guy balked. There's way too much uncertainty and judgement in the rule.
  12. Wait!!! They WANTED to give up one of their 2 last outs?? Insane!
  13. I was thinking that in order for a balk to be called, it should be blatantly obvious. If only an umpire can tell what a balk is, it's a stupid rule. A fan should be able to tell instantly what a balk looks like.
  14. I expect to see Luke Little get called up
  15. I think that they will just add Little to the 40 and call him up next week.
  16. Wicks should not be part of any type of piggy back. He'll be able to go 6-7 innings with regularity if they let him.
  17. I think that PCA is a no brainer to get the call. He's the best defensive OF'er in the system, and he's the fastest guy in the system. And he's actually been hitting. He would help offensively, defensively, and on the base paths. He's the perfect call up for a play off run. I think that Little should get called up too.
  18. I think the point is that he could be better than Smyly right now. Not that he's the end all be all pitcher this teams needs. If he's better than Smyly, which is very possible, he should be pitching in his place in a playoff chase.
  19. He's doing exactly what he should be doing. He's not as passive, and is swinging at more pitches, instead of being behind in the count all the time. If he stays with this approach, we are in for a big pleasant surprise from him.
  20. My response was a response to "what if" a prospect was ready to join the team in the OF. Something like that. Of course my first thought was what to do with Happ or Suzuki.
  21. Yes...they should be looking for major league players. It's just the thinking for the last 4 years. I'm going to have to stop that kind of thinking.
  22. That doesn't make any sense
  23. I was more thinking of what kind of return we'd get. I know that trade simulators are not the end all be all, but it's a decent place to start. Happ has a surplus of 10 million, which is not bad, but the return wouldn't be much. Suzuki has a surplus of -19 million, which tells me that even if they pick up his whole contract, it brings it down to zero surplus. Happ's return should be a middling prospect on his own, and Suzuki would be very hard to move. I'm not suggesting that they trade them, but IF a couple of these corners OF'ers are ready to step in, someone has to be moved. Even if it's the prospect(s). But I'd prefer to keep the younger cheaper guys.
  24. Agreed. But who is going to want Happ or Suzuki, unless the Cubs pick up all or most of their contract?
