If it was me, Shaw would have the job on OD. He's 5 years remove from HS and has crazy bat skills. He has nothing to prove anymore, and should be given the spot if it's open. I can't imagine opening up 3B, and signing another 3B to player there.

I think that if they trade Paredes, Shaw would have force himself OFF 3B. I think the job is his to lose.

My contention has always been that an extension won't happen. I agree that they will try to extend him. Which leads me to ask you this. What do you think an extension would have to look like to sign him? How much is Jed going to be allowed to do in his lame duck season? Tucker plus a great pitcher would make us clear favorites in our division. I just don't want to lose Tucker after this season. I'm also starting feel the excitement of obtaining Tucker, even if we do end up losing him. So for the record, I want them to trade for him. I want even more for them to extend him. That's the part I don't have faith in. But I admit that one year of Tucker is better than not having him.

Tom has gone on record saying he does not like long term contracts. I think that Jed can do whatever he wants within the perimeters Tom has laid down. I think there only two thing Jed can't do without permission. Go over the budget, and sign a long term contract.

I was thinking about this. I don't know the answer here, but can the Cubs pay the 5 million opt out money if Cody opts out? That opt out money would count against the 2026 payroll. And if he doesn't opt out, the Cubs to send over 5 million for this season.

So you believe that in Jed's last year, or at least it appears that it is, Tom is going to just sign a 350-400 million dollar guy for 10+ years? I'd have to disagree with this. I WANT Tucker, but I want him long term. And yes, I'd love him for one year, but it's going to suck to lose him.

I think if the Cubs had Tucker and signed to great pitcher, I think they'd be a low 90's win team. Is it a playoff team? Of course. My concern is 2026 and on. For the record, I'd LOVE Tucker on this team for 10 years. I'd LOVE him in 2025. I don't love losing him AND not having the players that we gave up for him. This is Jed's last season, so he might do things differently than his usual close to the vest moves. I guess we'll see. I wish we could be sure that a Tucker extension was a legit chance. But it's just not what Ricketts allows.

I'm more referring to the issue of Tucker being a one year rental. I'm not a fan of giving up our 3B AND his replacement to a rental. I know that Shaw will then take over, but then we lose Tucker and Belli. Tucker is going to test the FA market, and Ricketts has shown us that he's not in the market for 350-400 million dollar deals, or 10+ year deals. I'd LOVE Tucker on this team, but I'd hate to see him walk after the season, which is what's going to happen.

Well looking at Toronto having just about zero chance of making the playoffs, and a crazy high payroll for a team with no chance, I'd be looking to dump his salary, along with 3 other expiring contracts. The reason I think Vlad would be a little less return is because his salary is so much more than Tucker. Personally, I'm not a fan of giving up much for a rental that's not going to win the WS for us. Also, there's no chance of an extension for Tucker. I'm missing something here that most are seeing. How it Tucker going to help the team after 2025? Is he going to put us in the WS?

I agree with this. The cost shouldn't be as much as all the speculation that's been going on. Vlad should be even cheaper if Toronto moved him.

So please answer this. Do you think they will trade for him and let him walk as a FA? Just a simple yes or no. You are pretty damn sharp. So just like me, and every other poster on here, we have an opinion. What's going to happen? Cubs trade for Tucker and extend him Cubs trade for Tucker and don't extend him Cubs don't trade for Tucker

Of course I don't know better than them. I just don't see any way that Jed gives up what the reported asking price is for Tucker, knowing he's a rental.

This is exactly what it is. I don't see any way they trade for him because I don't see anyway they extend him. This to me is pretty obvious that a trade is not happening regardless of what's being "reported."
