There's always a chance they don't to much of anything. This is a lot of speculation, Stratus. I doesn't sound bad at all, but I'm not so sure they do much with that 40 million off season money.

This is my point. They weren't adding payroll. It was either there already, or arb raises were happening. Or both.

How much of that was FA signings? Without looking back, I think that it was much more arb raises.

I agree! I'd go as far as saying that they are usually leaked lies. No way he turned down 245 to play for 210. Regardless of where he lives. If I had to guess, the 245 is what he was looking for, and not an offer.

His CBT number is about 3 million more than his cash salary. These deferments help cash payroll, and hurt their CBT number.

It's about money and only money. Winning is a secondary bonus. The only time he ever cares about the fans is when they stop coming to games. The family did not buy the Cubs to win baseball games. They bought the Cubs to make a lot of money. I'm not saying that Tom's wrong, but it does suck for the fans.

I disagree. Players should love the idea that teams must spend a minimum amount of money on them.

With a cap, there has to be a floor also. If teams have to spend a minimum amount of money, I think most players would love that.

Well look at it this way. Enter 2027, they are sitting at 48 million. I'm just going to use 36 for Burnes, and 40 for Tucker. It's just numbers to use. That puts them at 124 million in payroll. Even using a high number of 50 million in arb raises and 0-3 players, that's now 174 million. That's way more than enough money to sign big time players on top of what they have. Unless they made a trade to clear up payroll, this would put them over in 2026. I personally don't think it's going to happen. But the CBT threshold won't be the reason it doesn't.

If we had to forget about signing Tucker because we got Burnes, it wouldn't be about money, because there's going to be tens of millions available heading in to 2027. And that' with both of these guys already signed, and arb raise and 0-3 guys.

I don't think that will happen based on their hit tools. Shaw is projected to be a very good hitter while PCA is not projected to be a very good hitter.
