  1. What if the new reported budget of 220 is in fact their their ceiling? Or are you still going by the CBT level of 241, and leaving around 10 million for injuries and in season moves?
  2. For 2 million dollars, he's going on the 40, and likely the 26.
  3. That would have to happen if they added Bader. It's a shame that he ran through 4 options, and never got a chance in the bigs. His trade value is essentially nothing today. He's played quite a bit of CF in the minors. Are you saying that he's not a viable option because he's just not good there? I still think that he can play 15+20 games there against tough LHP.
  4. I we not considering Suzuki the 4th OF'er and Canario the 5th OF'er right now? I can't imagine picking up Bader without DFA Canario. They are not carrying 6 OF'ers
  5. As you know, when talking about payroll, it's always the CBT number and never the actual cash payroll number. But this could be a way for Nightengale to say, "I was referring to the cash payroll" if it gets close to the CBT number!! Hahaha
  6. My post was about his HR numbers only. Slugging is different for sure, bud! They are not spending his kind of money. Like Jed said almost a year ago, rumors are usually just lies.
  7. He has a total of 210 HR's. Home field did help his numbers, as his adjusted park factor say he would have hit 239 HR's if he only played in Houston. Playing in Houston aided his HR's the second most behind Cin at 241 HR's. KC at 117 HR's would be his worst park to hit in. For the record, Wrigley sits at 193 HR's. Playing in Houston has helped him a ton.
  8. Listen to rcal!!!! Us boomers have to stick together.
  9. This I already knew. I must have misunderstood what he was posting about waiting a week to sign. Thanks!
  10. I thought the Cubs had 6.26 million to spend until Dec 15th, where it reloads a month after that. Is that not how it works? How can they give Roki the whole thing and have any money to sign these 3 kids? Isn't the money gone for the rest of the year? Thanks.
  11. Not much money for Roki then! If he chooses the Cubs for some reason, they will have to renege on those other 3 signings. Or will Roki take so little money to play for the Cubs?
  12. I read that he's going to visit the cities of the "finalists." There's also speculation that he's going to wait until the last 3 days of his window. Presumably to give teams a chance to trade for some more IFA money. But I can't imagine that a couple of million is going to be his deciding factor.
  13. Well, it was clearly something. And that's a lot of words? Hahahaha
  14. It is not!! I'm not sure why you ask that either.
  15. After Roki drops, the market for Jack may get hot, and there may be an over projections contract for him. It really could go either way. He could land a 4/90 ish deal, or he could have to settle for a 2 year deal in the 40's.
  16. They are already over the CBT by 120+ million. They owe 103 million for going over in 2024.
  17. So a #4 pitcher. I don't think they "need" a closer, but it wouldn't hurt at all. I think they are a waste of money. And since money is the #1 concern of this team, I wouldn't spend it, unless they weren't going to spend it at all. We have all 4 new bench players right now. I feel the same way about spending too much money on the bench. Again, spend it if the other option is keeping it in their pocket. But I do understand HOW they can spend it. I was also referring to spending it on a big FH. Yes, they can spread it out though. But I don't feel like that's going to happen.
  18. Thanks for chiming in!
  19. I had myself duped in to think they were going to sign Burnes. That's on me.
  20. Because every big FA is off the board. I wish I can find what I read about the PE telling Tom, he can't give out a long term deal until the next CBA is complete. I'm paraphrasing of course. Right now, I'd be very, very surprised if the spent that 40 million off season money. I don't think it's early in the FA market. The best ones are gone. So it's going to be lower priced guys. MAYBE Flaherty. I'm just not confident they will spend to win. Barring a trade, the offense is set. They can use one or two pen guys, and one or two SP's. We'll wait to see it this happens.
  21. Yes but that money they "can" spend is the same amount under their budget. Can being able to spend, and actually be allowed to spend, or actually spending is not the same. Signing Caleb never even crossed my mind about them spending. If they are tucking away 10 for in season money, they still have 38 million to spend. I personally don't think they'll come close to spending that money. As disappointed as I'd be if they left that much money on the table, I'll take 30 million is spending from here on out. .
  22. When they traded for Tucker, and moved Belli is the exact moment that I thought they would spend about 40 million this off season. Not I'm not so confident about that. Once they traded for Tucker and dumped Belli's money, I convinced myself that they are going big on SP. I was quite wrong again.
  23. Maybe, he was told he can't spend too much more money. We both have thoughts and assumptions. We both know one thing though. We're eventually going to find out.
  24. Like I said, I have no idea at all. It's just what I read. That said, being able to spend, and actually spending is not the same. I'll wait and see. But I don't expect any big spending from here on out.
  25. I don't know what's going on. Jed may have been told, no big spending, as is his lame duck season. I also read that he had a private equity firm invest in the team, and that Ricketts is not going to, or is allowed to make a long term signing until after the 2026 CBA. Again, I don't really know what to expect.
