  1. Apparently Davy Johnson refuses to be dragged away from his fishing boat. Davey Johnson might be a possibility. Bowden lured him out of retirement, he's serving as a scout for them right now. I wonder if he is interested in a return, and if Washington would let him go. If I were Hendry, he'd be my #1 pick. Out of the aforementioned names, Fredi Gonzalez should be the first considered, IMO. Is Girardi under contract beyond this year?
  2. I'm hoping he was just trying to refer to taters Rusch.
  3. After some very brief research, it looks like Seattle had the highest paid last place team ever, when they paid ovre $86 million last year for a 69-93 team, but they were just last in their division, not in their league.
  4. It seems every top prospect has taken a step backwards in the last year or two. There's sooooo few decent prospects anymore that's worth getting excited about. I'm beginning to come of the opinion that Flieta needs to go when they finally can Dusty and crew as well. Not sure it's fair to blame Oneri for the troubles of Blasko and Haggerty. Where did I do that? I commented on the overall, drastic backwards movement of the system. Injuries to prospects are going to happen, but the system as a whole has digressed incredibly over the last 3 years. Name one power-hitting prospect that is showing any promise right now? We have none in the system that are worth getting excited over. Who was the last position playing all-star that we've drafted and groomed? That's an indictment of our ability to develop position players, and Oneri is the head of player development.
  5. We'd have to be raping the WSox for me to give them both of them. I'm talking about a Sammy-for-George-Bell type of trade.
  6. Does anyone happen to know what league-worst team had the highest payroll? If we keep this up, we could end up making history...
  7. Interesting question...hard to make a comparison to anyone playing today. Comparing to a historical baseball figure, I'd say more like Jackie Robinson...one of the best all-time defensively, and able to contribute a little bit on offense. His defense is good enough to have an impact on any game, without a doubt.
  8. For the first time ever, I actually found myself rooting against the Cubs. At 4-1 in the 8th, I knew the game was over. I was hoping for Rush to get bounced after 1/3 of an inning with about 7 or 8 runs scored. That would only go to getting him DFAd quicker, and hopefully, Dusty fired sooner. I felt disgusted rooting against us though, but I couldn't help it...

  10. I used to think that as well, but now, I'm not so sure. I dont' think it's physically possible to be worse than Baker has been this year.
  11. Unless they've moved it recently, WLS can be found at 890 AM, no? lol, that's what I meant to type. Either way, Rusch will be tuning in in probably another 2-3 outings.
  12. Dusty is the manager. It could Marshall. Or Marmol, for that matter. Only Z and Maddux are safe.
  13. It's worse to be a Cubs fan. At least with the other teams, you know going into the season they're going to stink. Anytime they win, it's a nice surprise. For some reason, we keep getting fooled into thinking there's hope we can compete. Cursed 2003 season!
  14. Look at the ERAs for the 4 pitchers the Jaxx used today:Wells 1.45, Mateo 1.97, Cherry 1.50, and Rapada 1.05. That's an average ERA of under 1.50 for the four pitchers combined! Amazing! Better yet, if you literally COMBINE their ERAs, they are still better than Rusch's ERA.
  15. I'm amazed he only gave up one dinger. Detroit didn't bring their A offense today.
  16. You've watched Baker how long and yet you say something silly like that? Sham on you Jehr. I don't watch Baker. I close my eyes and cover my ears because it's otherwise painful. Maybe I should have highlighted the should in the statement above, but you're right...that's a HUGE assumption, and not a good one to make.
  17. Silver lining: Guzman has done very well in relief...he should get Rusch's start then next time through the rotation.
  18. Meh...he didn't deserve it. He didn't walk enough... :jocolor:
  19. hill turned 26 in march. if you look at his stats in the minors the last 2 years i dont see how you cant put him in the "prime pitcher" catagory. age aside, he has been the most dominate lefty in the minors the last 2 seasons. he also has had great command in the minors this year as opposed to when he has pitched in the bigs (for whatever reason). I don't think that's quite true. He's a better than average lefty in the minors who's now (my bad on the age) 26 and still can't stick. Not prime.
  20. I wouldn't call Hill a prime pitcher. He's 27 already. He's not learning or gaining anything in Iowa. They need to keep him on the roster until he gets over his nerves and gets his command back, or they need to trade him.
  21. I don't think it would work, and for two reasons...first, from our end, we'd be down to like only 5 2bmen. From their end, he's not old enough for their club. :D
  22. =D> Keeps Davey away from the Cubs.. Boooo..... I'll take DJ over any other available candidate, or soon to be available candidate in the sport. I'm amazed they got him to come back...I thought he had sworn never to return to MLB or something like that. He's been gone a LOOOOOONG time. I'm especially amazed the idiot Bowden of all people was able to bring him aboard. I wonder what his compensation package looks like... Thank you, thank you. (waves hand around) DJ sucks less the Baker, but he still sucks. I'd prefer a manager with a clue. Dierker, Valentine, or Curious George IN THAT ORDER. I don't see how anyone with a clue can say Davey Johnson sucks. The evidence just doesn't support such a claim. I'll bring the evidence. Johnson has a 564 career winning percentage. Seasons over .500: Johnson 12 (86%) Seasons over .600 Johnson 3 (21%) - very impressive. Seasons with 100+ win teams Johnson 2 (14%) World Series wins Johnson 1 First Place Finishes Johnson 4 (29%) Johnson also finished under 3rd or lower twice (14%). Those are also the only seasons he managed an under 500 team. Johnson wins. He has the ability to relate to players and talk the game in a language they understand, but he isn't opposed to using stats and computer print-outs, yet he isn't quite viewed as a "sabermetric" guy. Johnson would be an excellent choice as manager and probably better than most choices out there. It's a shame he's no longer available. Well, look at Buck Showalter. He put the championship foundation into place at both NY and Ari, does that mean you want his micro managing, overbearing, style on the Cubs? Of course not. I just feel DJ is also not a good fit for Chicago. I'd prefer Dierker or Valentine, anyways. What does Showalter have to do with DJ? You haven't provided a single reason yet to justify hating DJ.

  24. There is no chance Pierre would accept arbitration. There is still a team stupid enough to give him a multiyear deal out there. have you seen his numbers? Have you seen that there are still guys like Bowden and Colletti running teams in this league?
