  1. Does Will Carrolls assertion that he's seen a "partial" list set of anyone else's BS indicator? Who would have access to the list, filter it down, and start handing around a partial list to the media? Doesn't make sense. I think Carroll is flat out lying, he hasn't seen squat. I can think of no reason that anyone on the inside with access to the list who would go out of their way to furnish a copy of it to a media source would only do so with a partial list. Why would he write such a remark without providing any names if he's really seen it? I believe he has nothing other than pure conjecture that we all have from the knowledge that such a list exists with a little unique insight thrown in, nothing more. He holds no credibility with me.
  2. You actually HOPE Prior gets exposed as a juicer so that Hendry will have a little less heat on him? Are you related to Hendry or something? That has to be the most ignorant thing I've ever heard. Yeah, let's hope our most promising pitcher turns out to be a juicer to take a little heat off of our GM instead of hoping our potential Cy Young candidate finally gets healthy and dominates the way we has before. Let's hope for the worst so we can discard him for nothing, then watch the Cards or someone else pick him up on the scrap heap and rejuvenate him back into his 2003 form. Even if he is on the list, why would that "take all the heat off of the front office?" They still failed to have a reliable alternative going into 2006 after he was hurt for large portions of 2004 and 2005. Juicer or not, the front office gets no redemption whatsoever.
  3. IIRC, Grace had more hits in the 90's than any other player in the game during that period. I could be wrong, though. He also led the league in slumpbusting. See, going into a slump isn't all that bad. He needed 3,000 hits to have any chance IMO. He should go into the Cubs HOF and even the Dbacks just for one hit alone. I don't think he'll get in, but if you compare his stats to Kirby Puckett, you'd think there's a glimmer of a hope. The big difference is Puckett got a ring, and for some stupid reason, that's a big discriminator.
  4. Sure he did, for us anyways. Maybe not so well for Pittsburgh. He netted us Aramis. I would be thrilled to see us develop a position prospect that turns out as good as Aramis. I'd also be more than happy if we could trade Pie for someone with a bat as big as Aramis's. Bobby Hill and Hee Seop Choi turned into perhaps the most outstanding pair of corner infielders in the league.
  5. They might argue over which toolsy gold glover hits the best with RISP, but the end result is the same. They keep making the same mistakes. Yeah, mistakes like acquiring DLee, Ramirez, Murton, Barrett, and Howry. Mistakes like developing Zambrano, Hill, Wuertz, Ohman, Wood, and Prior. These guys are so incompetent. Why do they even have jobs? I could do better with my elementary knowledge of statistics! hahahha are you a fake account or something? Off topic, but I just threw up on my monitor, thanks to your signature. I don't know about everyone else, but I'm going to start blocking Tree until that sig is gone so I don't have to see it!
  6. Considering he's one year older, and injuries have always been a problem with him, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect him to perform close to last year's production. If he's had problems with injuries in the past, then wouldn't his three year splits reflect his usual performance while between injuries? Either way, injury prone or not, three year splits is a much fairer way to evaluate someone, especially when the last year was outside the norm.
  7. Not a very fair way of comparing the two... I don't want Floyd taking any at bats from Murton, but if you're seriously evaluating what you think Floyd can contribute to the team next year, taking one injury riddled year is a pretty myopic way of doing it. Three year splits would probably be more indicative of what to expect than last season, when he was injured most of the time and his production was down as a result.
  8. http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/story/9881116 The text of the link from their main page is "Drew's shoulder could nix Red Sox deal." That line is probably overstating the issue at this point, but it gives some insight as to why this deal isn't done yet.
  9. I think his accomplishments merit first ballot selection; however, I highly doubt he gets in on the first try, and I hope he doesn't. If he doesn't get selected on the first ticket, he'll be an outstanding case that highlights the serious flaws in the process of HOF voting and the inconsistant standards that are applied in the process. I can hear Joe Morgan now, "I would have voted for him had he taken his team to the championship..."
  10. There was a thread started a couple months ago which posed the 'is Bagwell a HOFer' question and I said the same thing you did. I too didn't realize that his stats were as good as they were. He also loses some votes for the stupid facial hair. :D
  11. why is hendry doing this again? I wouldn't mind seeing Floyd signed and put in a platoon with Jones. Dusty couldn't be trusted with that, as he would bench Murton instead. I don't know about Piniella. His history in tampa wasn't favorable in that regard, but he wasn't near as bad as Dusty in that regard. Why would you platoon Floyd and Jones? They're both LH, with similar splits. If I did that, I'd be banking on Floyd performing near his 2000-2005 RH splits when he plays, and when Jones is in, I think he'd be a huge upgrade to the bench. That, and if Hendry decides to get it done, I think he'd come to Chicago relatively cheaply (for this years market).

  13. Jay Jaffe ranks Bagwell's peak years as 3rd-best of all time for first basemen, behnd Lou Gehrig and Jimmie Foxx.
  14. Trading for Tavares might not actually be that bad of a deal..... . . . . . . . . Izturis for Tavares? Or better yet, Izturis and Jones for Hawpe and Tavares (I know, I'm dreaming...) Any deal for Tavares sucks unless we're getting rid of Izturis in return...
  15. Do you mean in terms of talent, or terms of "probably won't get in because of steroid accusations?" I think he means his chances of getting inducted are equal to Sosa's and McGwire's diminished chances. His resume isn't as strong as those two, but there's doubt that lowers their stock. Without the steriod suspicions, Sosa and McGwire are ahead of Bagwell, no doubt. I'll be the odd one out, I don't know if Bagwell is a HOFer. I don't think he's a no-doubt HOFer that is. I would call him a borderline HOFer. Those last three years when he was hurt cost him alot. Unfortunately, there's alot of idiots who vote for the HOF (cough, cough, *Joe Morgan* cough, cough) who penalize players for injury/health shortened careers and/or for never winning the World Series (Mr. Bagwell, meet Mr. Santo).
  16. I dunno, I'm a big fan of Gagne in 2003. Also an incredible year. I just think sometimes people forget how good Mesa was for that one season. Yes, but that's not what you originally said. You said you'd take Mesa over Smith and that is just an utterly ridiculous statement. Certain stats can be argued; others can't. Pick any stat you want; Smith beats Mesa in all of them and flat out dominates in most of them. K/IP Mesa: .67 Smith: .97 BB/IP Mesa: .42 Smith: .38 ERA: Mesa: 4.27 Smith: 3.03 And of course the all important one of Saves Mesa: 320 Smith: 478 Smith has 1.5 times the saves Mesa has in over 200 LESS innings. That is why Smith is being considered for the Hall of Fame and Mesa will never come anywhere close. One great year does not make someone a great player. Otherwise by your argument we need to include Brady Anderson as one of the great sluggers of the last 10 years. Yeah, but isn't Lee Smith like 50 now?
  17. Crimeny...get off of the soap box. Bruce Miles has enough credibility that if he reports someone said something, they probably did. soap box? excuse me? perhaps you need to take your time while reading posts a little better, because bruce miles himself posted that hendry never made such a quote. that's what i'm trying to tell you. he used adam dunn as an example to show how highly hendry valued hill. nothing more. quit trying to start a fight with me. Whose trying to start a fight? You're the one who went bold and all caps over one of your "pet peeves." A simple statement along the lines of "Hendry never said that, it was an anecdote from Bruce" would have been more than sufficient. As far as reading posts, I can read fine, thank you. However, you can't do searches on this board if your memory is a little hazy. Either way, it doesn't change the argument that you railroaded because you were "peeved." The argument was Hendry's seemingly lack of perceived value in Hill. Maybe he didn't say it directly, but someone reliable with access to the top of the organization there gave an anecdote that would indicate Hendry holds him fairly high.
  18. You keep saying that and you keep failing to provide anything other than your opinion. Do you have anything concrete or even anecdotal to back that up? If not, fire away, be my guest, but don't expect anyone with even half a head on their shoulders to agree with you. umm...my argument that hendry doesn't have a thing for hill is based on a lack of him saying or doing things to indicate support of hill. therefore, it's kinda hard for me to point to his non-existent quotes of support. since your claim is that he does support/like hill, you should be able to point to quotes or actions indicating such. but as you said, you're not a librarian. Didn't Hendry state last year that he wouldn't trade Hill for Dunn straight up? Nope. Who was it then that he said he wouldn't trade Hill for straight up? It was someone of that caliber. this is one of my pet peeves on this board. JIM HENDRY NEVER SAID HE WOULD NOT TRADE RICH HILL STRAIGHT UP FOR ADAM DUNN. this was a statement made by bruce miles, i believe, to demonstrate to everyone how highly hendry valued hill in 2005. it was never a quote directly from hendry. Crimeny...get off of the soap box. Bruce Miles has enough credibility that if he reports someone said something, they probably did. Who cares if Hendry conveyed to him that he wouldn't make that deal or if he said it verbatim in front of a camera. I didn't state he said that...I asked if he had said as my recollection was a little hazy. I don't care if it is a pet peeve of yours...there's no need to get an attitude. Whether he said it, or Bruce Miles said it, it supports the argument earlier that Hendry does value Hill, as it was claimed there is a lack of evidence to support that he does.

  21. Fixed. :D I think he's about par for the pack
  22. Could it be a deal, where if all vesting options kick in and performance bonuses are reached, then it could come to 3/28? That's possible. I just can't fathom how he'd get 3/$28 guaranteed.
  23. 4/$24 for an average fielding 3bman w/ a career .241/.302/.398/.700...any other year I'd say that's highway robbery. Granted, his last three years were a bit better than his first three, but still... edit...link: http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/story/9859710
