  1. where are these people? All over this board. The man love for Dunn on this board exceeds that for every player in the league whose first name doesn't start with Geo.
  2. His numbers right now are pretty close to what he put up last year at the same point in the season.
  3. I'd actually go with Orton on that one. I can't believe I just said that...
  4. He's one of the three guys I don't want to move. I'm just looking for a target of opportunity since LT is a great candidate to explode soon and he's on the worst team in my league.
  5. The numbers look off. Is it one of McFadden/Jones/Lewis/Johnson(I'm assuming this)? Or will you have to drop some guys to make it fit, if so, then who you would have to drop should be factored into what you're losing as well. Fitz and Johnson are close in value now, but Fitzs projected value will drop a little when Boldin comes back. McClain for one of those other four is close to a wash if you've got three guys ahead of that already. This is a faily even trade, but I think holding onto Johnson makes more sense long-term, even though Fitz may pay off more for however long Boldin is out. I wouldn't do it if it's a two-for-two trade which it looks like it is.
  6. In my league (11 teams, QB/RB/RB/Flex/WR/WR/DST/K, no ppr), the guy that has Tomlinson is 0-4. His team doesn't have alot of promise outside of Tomlinson. All but 3 teams will make it into the playoffs though, and it's looking like 3 wins might be just enough, as the back end of our league is pretty bad. I'm one of two teams sitting at 5-0, but I'm looking to improve anyways. He has 3 QBs on his roster (Trent Edwards, Hasselback, and Delhomme), has Ravens and Washington for his DST, and absolutely no receivers that are producing worth a darned outside of Tory Holt. At RB, he's got Willie Parker and McGahee who are both looking healthy. I think he can't afford to wait for Tomlinson to break out like I can, so I think we may be a good match. I'm looking for help drafting a trade proposal for LT that I won't regret. Here's my roster, with the guys I don't really want to give up if I don't have to in bold (though I might be talked into it for someone like LT though...) QB: Rogers/Campbell RB: Gore/Portis/J Jones/E Graham/Buckhalter WR: Fitzgerald/Cotchery/Hester/Edwards/Engram TE: Dallas Clark/Zach Miller DST: Eagles/Buccaneers K: Longwell/Nedney Here's his team: QB: Edwards/Delhomme/Hasselback RB: LT/Parker/McGahee/McFadden/Lendale White/Sammy Morris WR: Holt/Eddie Royal/Sidney Rice/Eddie Gonzalez TE: Heath Miller (one deep and he's giving up points on a bye this week) DST: Ravens/Redskins K: Rod Bironas (one deep here too, and he's also on a bye week) He can't afford to lose this week, as he's going against another guy who has only one win and is one of the guys he needs to leapfrog in order to make the playoffs. Anyways, I'm thinking about offering a receiver of his choice, Campbell, and the Buccs D in exchange for his crappy backup D, his worst QB (which ever he thinks it is), and LT. I'll throw in my backup TE (Z Miller) and my backup Kicker (Nedney) as well if need be, as I think I can get comparable or better replacements off of the waiver wire. Would that be giving up too much? What kind of offer would you guys put together considering those two teams?
  7. Dallas has alot of weapons, Barber isn't as good of a running back as he is a real life back as a result. I would have held out for someone better, or I would have given Peyton instead of Eli.
  8. Rogers or Campbell for QB? Rogers is going against Seattle, and Campbell has St Louis.
  9. Move Soriano to 2B and Derosa to right. I want nothing to do with Soriano in RF. He's a barely passable as left fielder (read as he's not Adam Dunn or Manny out there) Soriano can NOT play 2B. Never could. He was epically bad when he was there. There's a reason why the very best offensive 2B in the league doesn't play 2B anymore. His defensive ineptness offset whatever offensive advantage he brought to the position.
  10. For an offensive 2B, a .234/.342/.398 line with a 93 OPS+ isn't exactly enticing. He hasn't lived up to his hype yet. Weeks is going 30-30 next year... and the year after... and after... and after... until he dies. He'll be going 30-30 when he's 83 and playing Bingo. He'll be doing it for the NL Central Champion Reds. Only if it's under the leadership of someone other than Johnny B. If you couple Weeks with Baker for a season, you can officially kiss whatever promise he has left as a player good bye.
  11. I don't know about that. You have to give, in order to get. Our ability to give isn't very impressive this year. Our trading chips aren't as attractive as they were 3-4 years ago. So our ability to give and get is going to be based more on $$$ than players we can give up. We don't have much in expiring contracts this year, so that's really going to be based on how much of a payroll bump we get this year.
  12. Dunn is overrated. There's alot of people who consider him to be just a small step behind Pujols as an elite hitter, when he's not even close. He is very good, but calling him great is probably stretching it too much. He's slow, he's one of the greatest defensive liabilities in the NL, and I'd put the over/under on his OPS+ next year at 125, which is very good, but not great. Everyone acts like he's a guy who traditionally puts up OPS+s over 150 or higher every year, when his career high OPS+ is 146, his career average is 130, and his 3 year average is about 127. That's very good, that's not great, and it doesn't consider his other liabilities. He's regarded as comparable in value to players like Berkman, Utley, H Ramirez, Chipper Jones, etc. Some people seem to think of him as highly as Manny (not many, but a few) as a hitter, and he's not even close. I think most people think he's a better hitter than Aramis, who has just as good of a 3 year average OPS+ wise (and, ironically, the exact same OPS+ this year). Aramis is comparable offensively, plays a tougher defensive position and is much better at it. Dunn is likely to get at least 15 mil a year this year, which is about what Aramis gets now. He's not worth Aramis money, not with the other holes in his game. I don't think it's a stretch at all to say that he's overrated.
  13. He hates white people. that's is not true!!! I hate people #-o So if you hate people, then logically, you proved correct his statement that you hate white people.
  14. The team I want to win is the only team playing right now worth watching. Da Bears. Baseball is over for the year, as far as I'm concerned.
  15. I was about to say "fair trade," then I realized that you got TO in that deal too.
  16. Flex spot: Earnest Graham, Julius Jones, Braylon Edwards, or Jerricho Cotchery?
  17. Not to pile on against the Dunn love either, but the guy was 96th in the league in VORP, right behind Marlon Byrd, Melvin Mora, Jerry Hairston, and Ryan Theriot. Not that I think VORP is a flawless stat, as Dunn's rating clearly shows here, but it does highlight the fact that many SABR metrics don't include Dunn as one of the elite players in the game, despite the widely-held belief that Dunn is a SABR machine.
  18. and that's exactly the way it should. I would be very happy with this, as long as there was say 1 substantial addition. We need either a star bat that we can count on for the number 3 spot, or else a mindless power bat for the 4 spot and move Ramirez to the 3. I dont think Lee is washed up, but he should be a 5 or 6 hitter, as he always should have been. he had that insane 2005, but other than that, what we got from him this year is more of what he has been throughout his career. I said this last offseason and I still believe it - Lee is a 2-hole at this stage in his career. He is still one of best on the team at working counts. He still gets on base. He's a smart runner. He should be a solid hit-and-run hitter with his ability to spray singles to all fields, which has relevance in the NL on a Piniella managed team (even if it disagrees with anyone's personal philosophy). I want to see Lee move up in the order, not down. I'd rather he lead off...less chances of hitting into a DP...
  19. Lots going on in this thread. First, Roberts had a better year than DeRo. However, everyone who said he wouldn't be that big of an upgrade over DeRosa were right. He wasn't that big of an upgrade, and the sweetest package we were rumored to have offered may have been the best non-deal of the season. I would still like to see us get him if the price is right. Second, Dunn would not be a good signing at all. He's one of the slowest guys in the game, defense is horrible. He's been very good, but not great with the bat over the last three years, as he's put up OPS+s of 114, 136, and 130 (130 is his career OP+ too). He put up an OPS under .900 with most of his ABs coming in Cincy (.901 before the trade), and wouldn't have been in the top 10 in OPS+ in either the AL or NL this year. That's very good, but he's not the elite hitter many make him out to be. He'll cost too much, and I don't see him aging well into his 30s during the last couple years in the inevitable 5 year deal he'll get. I could be wrong, but I don't see him as one of those guys that ages well into their 30s. By the time Lee's deal expires, I'm not confident he could even handle 1B proficiently at all. I'm thinking he'd be Fred McStiff-like at 1B by then, especially without the experience at the position. I don't think that a guy who isn't a sure bet to even break a 130 OPS next year with his other shortcomings is worth the money and years he's sure to get. Then again, maybe he won't get what I think he will (5/90+, Z type of contract).
  20. I'm one of the many who ate crowe this year over Theriot's year (my Dad served me a big dish of it last week...). I still say it's a fluke. Sell high. Packaging him with Pie for McLouth, or including him in a deal for Hardy would be genious.
  21. This article presents pretty much the exact opposite picture of Cubs fans... http://www.sportsline.com/columns/story/11012421 Good article, doesn't make me feel any better though.
  22. Can we just file this away as another reason SI is a horrible publication? Sportsline, Foxsports, and even the homers over at ESPN all put forth superior products to SI. I don't even waste my time checking out their website anymore, it's such a joke. I haven't pulled it up in a couple of years. Hell, you get better, more objective analysis from FJM.
  23. No. Anyways, I don't really read Doyel much except maybe a couple times before, and his articles are always the same. He always aims to anger one particular fanbase, and this time it's the Astros. I agree with the main point (stop complaining, Houston players), but does he seriously think Astros players will actually read this article? Of course not, he just felt like picking a fight with Astros fans. You know, I just think that this guy, Gregg Doyel, is an okay guy in real life, but on the internet, CBS hired him as a persona, to write articles simply to piss off fans. Nobody can be this much of a jerk, right? Now, I do agree that the 'Stros players cannot blame this for their season slipping away. I agree, and echo the sentiments of the earlier post that was hoping this was a letter of resignation. Doyle is an arse. There just happened to be a topic that deserved to be hit like that for once.
  24. I like the first comment listed..."I don't understand the big deal??....Backe has been getting hit all year!!!" This is one of those stories that makes you scratch your head. There's got to be another side to the story. The people who attacked the officers are clearly 100% in the wrong, but I'm guessing at least the initial officer was antagonistic and over-the-line as well. People like this (especially a FEMA coordinator?!?!) don't start free-for-alls with officers, drunk or not, without something compounding the situation. I'd like to hear statements from some witnesses who weren't involved.
  25. Geovany Soto. I was going to say "Pujols" but I like your answer better.
