  1. Pulling this one out from long ago: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v387/sweetpeteman/Sotod.jpg
  2. Wait, what was this botched marriage proposal that I missed?
  3. Funny, because Reed was traded just before his next at-bat, he's the only Cubs position player not to get a hit tonight. Even DeJesus got a hit in his first at-bat.
  4. No. He was traded for last week as additional starters for when Dempster/Garza were traded.
  5. http://www.bleachernation.com/2012/07/03/jeff-samardzija-back-to-bread-and-butter-and-other-bullets/ Good to hear that his struggles can actually be linked to experimenting with a curveball, not fatigue/other stuff.
  6. Drop Longoria, Add Hamilton Drop Zimmerman, Add Ethier
  7. Here's what my thoughts are, at this time (assuming the top 10 picks all sign with the Cubs): 1. Rizzo 2. Baez 3. Soler 4. Almora 5. Jackson 6. Szczur 7. Castillo 8. Lake 9. Hernandez 10. Vitters 11. Johnson/Underwood/Blackburn/McNutt Candelario? I think he has to be in the top ten.
  8. the NHL had no salary cap, salary floor, luxury tax or revenue sharing arrangement prior to the lockout. after the lockout it had a hard salary cap. below is the list of teams that have been caught or accused of cheating to circumvent this relatively new, drastically different arrangement: http://www.crctlessons.com/images/empty-set.jpg 1. NJ Devils were fined $3 mil, and lost two draft picks, for Kovalchuk's original contract offer. I would imagine that MLB teams will find loopholes much the same way NHL teams did with the long-term contracts (ex: DiPietro, Hossa).
  9. Burke is 24, not 26. 24 at A ball is a little old, but not too much to be concerned about, especially if he gets bumped to A+ about mid-season. Right now he is more like a low round college pitcher then a person who has been in a system for 6 years.
  10. According to ESPN Chi: http://espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/story/_/id/7941532/chicago-cubs-call-reliever-blake-parker Will require him to be added to the 40-man, but I think the 40 man stands at 38 right now.
  11. Castillo is playing and batting 8th, not Soto
  12. Was thinking the same thing. It is rather worthless. FYI: You can turn it off by clicking the gear symbol in the upper right corner.
  13. He had 150 PA's in 2008 so I don't know if that makes that his rookie season technically. Sam Jethroe won the award when he was 32 though. The cut-off is 130 PA, so, yeah, he's out.
  14. No. However, that only goes back to 1993, before that the playoffs were set up differently.
  15. 3 on the 40 man rosters: Junior Lake, Deunte Heath and Donnie Veal Veal is back in the cub's system? This is the pitcher that was doing well about 6-7 years ago and his brother got shot or something right? Could have sworn I saw him in the bigs for the Pirates or some other [expletive] team. Obviously I don't care enough to google it so feel free to not answer He's talking about both the Cubs and White Sox ("in Chicago"). Veal and Heath are with the WS.
  16. Well, he did it, I think, but that may be talked about.
  17. In his age 23 season (next year for Castro), Ernie Banks made 34 errors. Eventually, he did move from shortstop... seven years later, and oddly, began the transition the year after winning the GG. Just for reference sake, I went and looked at some past winners of the NL GG: Castro at age 21: 158 G, 29 E, .961% Age 22 season: (Games/Errors/Fielding %) Renteria: 151, 26, .959% O. Cabrera: 117, 28, .944% (Minors) Larkin: 91, 17, .963% (Minors) (At age 24, in the majors: 148, 29, .960%) Concepcion: 93, 22, .945%
  18. I agree on Garza and Shark but I'm a big believer in 3, preferably someone who would be the youngest of the three. Sucks there's still a delay because I was really looking forward to watching this start by Shark. It's [expletive] gorgeous here in the great state of NJ, y Chicago no gorgeous? It's beautiful here. It's [expletive] in [expletive] St Louis. And the weather is bad, too.
  19. Whaaaaaaa? I had to look for myself but according to the play-by-play on Cubs.com, the only swinging strike he's had was the first pitch to Nady last night.
  20. Since this is going to be an on going issue throughout this season, I figured we might as well have a thread on it. The current bullpen as it stands: Lopez - meh Camp - why is he here? Dolis - probably good to see what he has Russell - good Castillo - really raw, not a bad idea for a re-building team, but needs a lot more time in the minors Wood - hopefully can turn it on, but is probably going to struggle for consistency, as he did in Cleveland Marmol - needs serious coaching. So of the 7, Lopez, Camp and Castillo have no place in the majors, and Marmol needs serious help. The question is who is available either in the minors or for cheap.
  21. I voted yes because I hate most Cubs fans, but I'm hoping for a standing ovation to drown out the jackasses that do boo.
  22. Please tell me someone else clicked that link. Man, that really let me down.
