  1. I wasn't saying they should trade him , I was just responding to a post that mentioned him playing 1B and just suggested I'd rather they just trade him then having him move to 1B.
  2. Lotta players with NTC have gotten traded over the years. Most of these guys just want to be able to choose the team(s) they will play for that interested in trading for them.
  3. I'd rather they trade Happ for a pitcher or even a good prospect.
  4. One thing i wish Hoyer would be, and that is be more aggressive in going after the guys he wants over waiting and ending up with the leftovers in January.
  5. Agree, he one I wouldn't mind if they offered a 10 yr deal to.
  6. Sad as the Cubs aren't going to be real players for any of the big named players likely. Maybe next offseason
  7. Soto gonna be looking for close to a billion next offseason and he'll just be 25. 😅
  8. Nah, he got Wisdom and Madrigal manning 3B until Shaw is ready 🙄
  9. It means I somewhat answered the posters question about what the cubs possibly offered by telling him what I had saw. 🤷‍♂️
  10. Not sure if it was for him or not, I think it was, but I saw something where they may have offered him something that had opt outs in them after 3 or 4 years.
  11. One thing to be interested, it another to actually be serious players.. Everyone and the mothers knew Ohtani was going to be at the very least 10/500 so why make it seem like you're interested if you never had any intentions of being serious bidders
  12. Ohtani probably goes to Dodgers or stays in Anaheim. Soto about to get moved to the Yankees. And now no Yamamoto... I just dont think the Cubs were ever going to sign or add any big names this offseason. Hoskins and mid range players were probably the most they were going to do.
  13. I learned a long time ago not to get hopeful with any big time players that available for any of my chicago sports teams. Why I don't get too involved with talking about adding this guy or that guy and feel it more likely they take the mid to low end players then the big stars. My thought for this offseason was they would bring back Bellinger, add a TOR SP, and then guys that would bridge them til certain prospects were ready. I never felt they would spend on Ohtani or trade any of their top prospects for 1 year of Soto or Alonso
  14. It wouldn't be a bad thing IF Hoyer plan is to add a couple players this offseason at a reasonable cost and years that keeps him under the Threshold or just over it, and spend the season bringing up his top players and then be extra aggressive next offseason via FA (Soto), whomever the hot Japanese player that comes out, and trades because the payroll will be wide open then.
  15. Please dont tell me you'd take Swanson over Soto based on that
  16. Orioles and Kimbrel agree to a deal
  17. I dont think they do at all.. Swanson is probably the closest to that but he not quite there IMO. I think Bellinger would be a good start if they brought him back, but what the cubs have now on their roster are just guys that their high mark is probably just having a good season that might make them AllStars. They are guys that has to rely on getting hot for X amount of games to be useful.
  18. Cubs are playing in the shallow end of the pool.. Hoyer not going to give out big multi yr deals to anyone. He gonna make a trade for SP and go hard after Hoskins and someone to bridge CF until PCA is ready. I really believe what Carter said about not blocking the prospects. Horton, PCA and Shaw are tye key players their waiting on now along with Caissie, Alcantara, and Brown.
  19. Maybe they are pivoting from Ohtani because they possibly have a deal/trade pending for Soto and or someone else and didn't want anything leaked out.
  20. In a way it may give him some leverage with teams for a trade or another FA if they feel they might have to act fast to make a deal or agree to an offer otherwise they lose out if Ohtani agrees to sign with cubs.
  21. We really don't know what going on in that department, I really don't take much stock into anything these writers say. I'll wait to see what if anything actually comes out after players are signed. I personally feel like if Hoyer has a budget of staying under the Threshold, he is more likely to go out and add multiple players via trades and FA, like Hoskins and a SP or two with the money he has to spend over putting it all into one player.
  22. He exactly what Ricketts wants. As long as he puts a somewhat competitive team on the field within the budget he given, his job is safe.
  23. IMO, Ohtani either returning to the Angels or going to the Dodgers. I think he likes it out there and as has been reported, he likes to keep his routine and stay out of the light.
  24. I haven't heard anything about an offer or a visit
  25. If they sign Ohtani, and also have Swanson who both will be in early 30s, they've got to do some spending to not waste those early years of contract. They can't just say ok we spent X amount on a couple big time players, now enjoy them for 162 games and hopefully a playoff round or two. Also This will likely be Bote last season with the cubs, he owed 5.5 mil, has club options for 25 and 26 for 7 mil each. Kinda sucks to be paying a guy that much to play in AAA, I wonder if Counsell will give him an opportunity to make team in ST.
