  1. Don't think you'll have the same problem if you derail Stewart(not sure you can derail it at this point) or Barney. Although if something happens to Barney and we are subject to an entire season of Lillibridge you could have trouble with Cub fans. Anyway it was a nice break from what had been a pretty dismal beginning, had a little humor or an attempt at it. You can look at it this way, your thread loosened up everyone and got us a win last night...so here's to you- game MVP!
  2. Hope they can play. I'd really like to play them with all the injuries and their bullpen tanking. Don't know what they will be like when we play them again at home. Although missing Lohse for one of their lower starters would be OK.
  3. So this is what it feels like to score runs and get clutch hits/at bats. I have to say it's kind of nice!
  4. That'll happen when you have a evening game...not much to write about.
  5. I saw 93 at least once. It seemed pretty good, especially with the slider
  6. come on! must be the russian judge
  7. Big League pitchers finally caught on to the fact that he can not hit curveball. Are you trying to say that Jesus Christ can't hit a curve ball?
  8. I think you also have to temper predictions based solely on farm systems because such a small percentage actually work out. We, as fans, are (or should be) basing our hope for the future that this front office will add the needed pieces to the puzzle when the time comes. Right now we have Castro and Samardzija as known commodities. We have pretty good hope for Rizzo. That is it for known pieces. Edwin Jackson could be around, but probably needs to be towards the bottom of the rotation on a contender. Every other position we are hoping to fill with a guy whose true value is unknown. Even Baez, whom I think looks like the real deal has not played an inning at the big league level. It's tough to predict things when you are still building 90% of your team for 2016. Add in that our pitching prospects sure seem a long way off. Now I have confidence that we are building enough depth to: #1 have at least some of our prospects work out...a must for us #2 have pieces to trade to fill in other spots so that we don't have to go all free agent routes. I think as we get closer to 2016, things will be much more in focus(and positive) for the prediction of this team.
  9. Well rumor has him with the Mormons AAA club in upstate new york but that's unconfirmed.
  10. :D That thread from last year was hilarious. Some posters hung onto that thought all season long. Jesus Christ. No, Jesus is fine. He was off the 3 day DL on March 31. Amazingly no worse for wear on what looked like a really bad "upper body" injury.
  11. Sounds like Stewart is hitting in bad luck again...
  12. no we're fine. As of right now we are only 2 out of the wildcard. Time to start dealing!
  13. Just remember the Brewers bullpen awaits...could be the best situation, walk off win in the 9th, our bullpen doesn't have to close.
  14. Hey after today's start things are going so well we can just spend the next 155 games worrying about what posters call players...
  15. Losing this series would be a fairly typical outcome of any three game series during a baseball season. Not epic at all, unless they managed to lose 20-0 every game. True it's baseball anything can happen but it's about as big an advantage as we will have all season, save for maybe Miami or Houston. No Aramis, Segura, Hart, Gamel...Axford struggling horribly, and not to mention that Braun was still so hurt yesterday that the Brewers pinch hit Lohse without 2 out in the bottom of the 11th with the tying and winning runs on base. They are a very wounded team and we need to take care of them when they are down.
  16. At least we are facing a team that not only has as many closer problems as we do BUT has so many injured starters it's incredible. Losing this series would be an epic fail.
  17. you have nothing better to worry about? your like a crotchety old women His name is "Fujikawa." It's easy to remember, spell, and pointlessly shaving off four letters makes you sound like a 5-year-old or Mike Quade. Why does that matter to you? I am pretty sure you are not my mother nor my boss so please don't try to tell me what to do or what to I can call anyone. Obviously you knew exactly who I was talking about so it really shouldn't matter. Not to mention telling me to stop saying fuji is off topic. So how about we drop it and continue the Marmol watch.
  18. He started last year exactly the same..he even had a 27.00 era after his third appearance. He had a 6.50 era mid june, and then finished with a 3.42 era and converted 19 of his last 20 save chances. Last year they put him in a set up role for awhile, and got some holds. When everyone else they tried failed, he came back ok. If he can do that again, we can probably get something for him..not much but something. Right now you have several teams that are hoping to contend struggling with closers. Detroit even resigned valverde. If he continues his decline from the end of last year, that could be a prime target. We may be looking at a A league player, but it's something and you never what someone will do when teams get desperate.

  20. Everyone is hating on marmol (deserved), and yes he got the loss and the blown save but fuji blew the flippin' game by losing a 5-1 lead with 6 outs left in the game not to mention it took a great play by gonzalez to keep him(fuji) from losing the lead in the 8th. I'm not saying marmol's good but fuji has a save on 2 pitches, and got shelled worse than marmol in the next situation. He is trotting out as the new closer with a solid 11.50 era. There are big problems out there and DFA'ing marmol and handing fuji the closer job ain't necessarily the answer. Also keep in mind that fuji's save and hold are vs pittsburgh who has scored 6 runs total and is hitting .117 as a team. The only think I see working is lose the "closer" tag and go with match ups for everyone down there until someone steps up
  21. I include Hairston's ob% because we needed something to happen with men in scoring position. His K's per bat (1K in just over every 4 at bats) show that it shouldn't be a surprise that he struck out, because he tends to strike out. Castillo was included because he came to at bat in the situation AND as I said he is unproven in the major leagues. I am not sure exactly what Castillo will bring offensively...could be good, could be bad. He actually got hit by a pitch, so I wasn't blaming him. I was simply pointing out that it wasn't real surprising that no one got the job done. As for injuries, I was under the impression that one of the righties would be at third vs lefties regardless of stewart's health. As for jumping to conclusions, I look at a lineup that brings Sappelt as a leadoff hitter, Hairston 5th, Castillo 6th and Lillibridge or Barney 7th does not have the look of a contender and has little to do with yesterday or the 2 games so far. Like I said if it doesn't come from Castro, Rizzo and Soriano I don't no where it's coming from.
  22. I am not sure how we will be close come July. It would be nice but things would have to go almost perfect to be that close.
  23. I know it's cold and it's early but.... The right handed order may be one of the worst line-ups this side of Houston. As for getting guys in with less than 2 outs, if you can't hit with the bases empty, why should we think they will hit with people on? We had 2 hits. We sent up Hairston, Castillo, Lillibridge and Gonzalez...expectations? yes, putting the ball in play would be nice but you have one semi-proven major league hitter in that lot and that was Hairston, and he has a career ob% of .300 and strikes out about 1 out of every 4 at bats. Pitching and defense may keep us close but offensively if castro, rizzo and soriano don't do it, it probably isn't getting done.
  24. best hope is- He started this way last year. He ended may with almost a 6.00 era but got it going and finished the year at 3.42. Which is pretty darn good considering where he was halfway.
  25. I don't think it would happen straight up for Harper or Trout with Castro(on our end). I also don't think the nats/angels would do it without others involved from us. The possibility of a Castro trade has nothing to do with performance or potential, but rather our needs for the future and the chance that we have a guy who may be as good just a season or two behind him. It is one of the few spots we seem to have some depth. Trading Castro head up for one of those guys would fill 1 need but possibly leave us with another need instead(Baez looks good but still is unproven). Although the value would certainly be there, I think the trades that would make sense would be for several near ready prospects especially pitching, rather than getting one great player. We need volume right now, and our true assets are few. So although Trout and Harper should be future (and present) studs, we would still have so many players to fill in in order to be a contender that I am not sure how much closer we would be. Not too mention neither club is going to deal those guys.
