  1. Agree on Rizzo. He is a spot that needs to be here and very successful long term. Our closer situation is short term for this year. It could cost us a few games this year but as long as it's settled whenever we have a team that can contend, it'll be ok. I said for Rondon could be "groomed" not handed the job. As far as value goes, I was thinking they have him up on the major league club working in relief rather than getting starts in AAA. Shark made the switch but it's not a common way to do things. So I think they are viewing Rondon as a bullpen arm. He seems to be about the only one close to ready AND has the stuff to be that type of guy. Bowden has done fine, and Russell has been great. I don't see Bowden as having the stuff to close regularly. Russell could be the guy, but for whatever reason he never has done it, and I'd hate to lose a lock down lefty 8th inning guy to have an average closer. I was simply looking at guys we have, and that are close to being ready-which isn't many. Going out of the organization to find a fix for this year would certainly mean taking a gamble on a player that has already flamed out for some reason someplace else. As I said there is a reason many of our bullpen guys were available for us to grab. For the guys out there (mostly Wilson and KRod) there is some reason no one has grabbed them. Even Detroit re-signed Valverde (who they did not want back), rather than get either of those 2.
  2. Either could be waiting for a time when need is highest. With several teams (contending) struggling sooner or later they may get desperate. They could also be an injury away from a call from another contender.
  3. Camp was fine in his role, he is way too hittable to close. He blew the save in the first inning not the 2nd. Fujikawa has not been good at all. His ERA is above Marmol's and has blown more games than marmol. He has 1 blown save, but remember he cost the 5-1 games to the braves when he couldn't hold a 4 run lead. I'll buy the it's early part but the troublesome part is that usually pitching dominates early. To me the only moves that make sense are: 1- put Marmol back there after a few more solid outings and hope we can get any type of deal. 2-put Fujikawa back there when healthy and find out for sure if he can be a closer or not. Unless someone really is convinced that this team can bounce back and contend, picking up another fill in closer doesn't make much sense. Rondon has never closed, but perhaps if Fujikawa proves to be a set up guy, he's the guy to groom for the job.
  4. saw the ad for the rangers (and AJ) coming to town. Can we have Micheal Barrett sing the anthem?
  5. another positive from today! he looks much sharper last few outings...Theo if the phone rings answer it quickly
  6. More likely an ulcer waiting for this team to work it's way towards 81 wins
  7. I was wondering where they got the name.... somebody might want to explain that to Navarro.
  8. Being the best defensive team in the Cactus League doesn't carry as much cache as it used to. how many points do we get for that?
  9. Tim McCarver called and wanted to remind everyone that Navarro was once an all- star.
  10. It's more than that. They just set a freakin ML record for most wild pitches in an inning. Shouldn't be happening to even the Astros. true, but usually poor teams, and poor defensive teams hold that record. and some major league team has to hold the record.
  11. sure is pushing how cool this is. I am guessing even if she's from the burbs, this is her first trip to wrigley...another reason to dislike, and not to have her sing.
  12. wow that booth shot just took me aback. I was thinking Julia STILES, not sweeney and that was harsh...
  13. Good news, at least a few guys are starting to hit and that will help. Some of you have to realize that there is a reason that "our" bullpen guys, and roster guys were available for us, and why Jackson (with all his stuff) has bounced around. He is a solid pick up for us, but he has never been a top end of rotation guy. Now if Garza ever comes back healthy, and villanueva keeps it up, we might have something but if jackson is #2, it's shaky.
  14. your bullpen moves can look pretty good when you have 3 really good back end guys and you are pitching to valbuena and clevenger for 2 of your 3 outs.
  15. The problem isn't that he's our 25th man, it's that with barney out he is a regular. AND a huge fear could be that he is a regular RH platoon guy(at 3rd) even when barney is back. He's also an easy target, it'll take quite a bit of time until the top of the order catches the heck that he has-even though they probably deserve more.
  16. Since we are on the injury thread, does anyone know if Clevinger is dead? Kyle you do realize that if you disagree, you are automatically wrong...no matter the outcome.
  17. Do you think the bottom half of the roster realize that they'll get a settlement if they are released when on the DL?
  18. at least they waited to see if he was ok...oh no they had to plug the nascar race tonight..
  19. casilla closed a lot last year, so i guess they feel comfortable with him. Nice of the Giants to have 2 pretty good closers, while we struggle to find 1. #greedy
  20. don't want to question our coaching but why would you not hit dejesus lead off for the inning? He is your lead off man, and we need 1 run...
  21. appears to be ok? it looked like he was laying down on the couch..more likely to get hurt tying his shoes.
  22. At wrigley they probably didn't even know it was going on.
