  1. Still feels like Heyman is getting purple-monkey dishwasher-ed.
  2. It's some combination of keeping that roster spot open for the rule 5 draft and the Cubs' contingent all being in Dallas rather than Chicago and not being able to do the contracts/medicals/etc.
  3. The Tucker resolution doesn't *have* to come hand in hand with the Bregman signing, but it feels pretty likely
  4. Cubs should add Cortes and just corner the market on all the best "lefty starters who throw 92" in the league
  5. Really curious what level of SP is in play if this happens. Hoerner is presumably no longer available to be dangled, and Crochet is gone (plus doing Crochet and Tucker would have eviscerated the farm). Can we manage a Cease? Is a Luzardo about the right expectation?
  6. If Tucker is cool moving around, which he has been in Houston, and Seiya is fine doing a good bit of DHing (while primarily playing RF) it feels doable.
  7. The fact that it seems not just possible but likely for us to end up with Tucker and a fun SP and not have to lose Shaw, Brown, or Horton is extremely cool.
  8. Rosenthal's article makes it sound like either, I think the talk of both is just bad reading comprehension on content aggregators.
  9. Nah, lefty hitting infielder who can cover 2B/3B is a need in essentially every version of the offseason.
  10. If Paredes is part of an Astros deal, they have no need to condition a trade on retaining Bregman. I would think that if Bregman is about to choose the Yankees it means that the Tucker deal going through is more likely to go through. The causation can work either way, the Astros have Paredes so they tell Bregman bye, or the Yankees didn't like how the bidding was trending so they pivoted to their next move.
  11. Yeah that's where my head is at that he's playing one of CF or 1B against all lefties.
  12. I wonder how viable Tucker is viewed in CF, especially Wrigley's tiny CF. He had a terrible defensive 2023 but has otherwise been a +10-15 RF. Knowing that there is a certain amount of ego management that needs to be done, I wonder if we could do something like this? Suzuki - 100 games in RF, 50 at DH Tucker - 60 games in RF, 40 at 1B, 30 at DH, 20 at CF Busch - 120 games at 1B, 10 at 2B/3B, 10 at DH
  13. As always Greg thinking things through thoroughly
  14. I'll be honest, this latest Rosenthal article has tipped my brain into this being more likely than not. I'm telling it no but this feels like it has the juice.
  15. Using Paredes is nice because it presumably knocks the prospect freight WAY down, making a subsequent trade for a SP still pretty doable. The 3B market is horsefeathers though, so we're basically locking into Shaw with a high end backup like a Rojas or Moncada IMO.
  16. You can 100% start and extension the following year, Ian Happ's was set up like that.
  17. Their non-Tucker corner outfield is pretty rough too. I'd think adding Caissie and having him revisit learning 1B would make a lot of sense. Separately, if a deal requires a 3rd guy Jonny Long would fit them well. Shaw doesn't feel like a great fit, despite being our best prospect.
  18. I'm curious how much of this trade discussion is either/or and how much is in parallel. At this point it seems pretty clear that the team wants to make a big trade. It might be more Luis Castillo than Garret Crochet, but I'm at this point totally expecting a trade for someone fun. There's too much smoke from too many corners for it to feel artificial or limited to a handful of scenarios. All of the names we've heard besides Tucker have been starting pitchers. What I'm really wondering is if the plan is A) One big trade, and that'll probably be a pitcher for logistical reasons but if the right hitter opportunity presents itself then cool B) One big trade on each side of the ball C) There’s a certain amount of prospect capital they're comfortable selling, or conversely a certain number of wins they're intent on buying, and TBD what that looks like The reason I wonder is because if we're in scenario A, yeah there probably needs to be some real urgency to get a deal over the finish line. If it's B or C, free agency is clearly just being used for supplemental additions, and there is no urgency. With Kelly locked down, you can easily wait until MLK day to go shopping for relief and bench help. It's not an issue at all.
  19. I had in my head that they had a more settled LF situation. I guess my subconscious went ahead and gave them Soto since I expected him to end up there? Yeah if their OF is currently Dominguez-Grisham-Judge I think Bellinger still fits. Grisham is ideally a high end 4th OFer.
  20. This got brought up in the Winter Meetings thread but the Yankees signing Christian Walker feels like it probably takes the Yankees out on Bellinger.
  21. Saw someone, Brett I think, mention the Cubs' roster is at 39 and so Kelly likely doesn't get finalized until the weekend post Rule 5
  22. I think this would most likely, but not definitely, take them out on Bellinger. Dominguez in CF is a bit risky, but they also have Grisham in case things go south. Wouldn't be surprised if they re-upped with Gleyber instead.
  23. Vibes wise the article here really makes this feel like it has a chance to happen. Even if it's not Tucker I'm starting to let myself think the team might consider something big
  24. If they bring Bregman back they're pretty covered at 2B/3B/SS. I think they'd be more focused on 1B and the OF.
