  1. Danks turned out pretty good, and Volquez was doing great before you know who got to him, so hopefully theres hope for Diamond. Plus he sounds Jewish, and weve been without ever since Jason Marquis departure, unless you count Rothschild. Fuld, Grabow and I believe Fox are Jewish.
  2. My original point was to guess what Hendry might do. He would probably think Rowand is a step up from Bradley and the Giants might welcome getting out of Rowand's contract. I was hoping others would come up with ideas that reflect Hendry's tendencies (e.g., signing Billy Wagner for 2/20).
  3. Milton Bradley for Aaron Rowand
  4. BA seemed high on him as a second day guy during the draft. I'm curious to see if he has a future or is just roster filler. If you believe this poster at an Alabama message board, May got quite a bit of coin and will be converting to catcher: Do other organizations convert people to catcher as much as we do? Why don't we just convert him to pitcher now and cut out the middle step?
  5. Are you kidding? We would have to offer him arbitration and he might take it. Not worth the risk. My concern is that Hendry goes out and gets a "proven" closer further hamstringing our budget.
  6. I'm not looking forward to his first start. He hasn't really had a chance to work with Rothschild yet. I am curious to see how he does by the time September comes around and Larry's had some time to work with him. Why do you think Rothschild can make any difference? Why is there necessarily anything that needs to be worked on? If it was so easy why do we dread seeing Heilman and Szmardjia?
  7. That's not what he said. He mentioned there were reports of interest. Not the same we hope.
  8. I like this for the Pirates. They gave up nothing useful. Does Clement still have a future catching?
  9. Half an hour ago I thought Piniella might be fired. Let's build on this.
  10. to think my coach always said that would weaken the legs ...but more than made up by the surge in testosterone.
  11. Funny how things change. I thought not trading Hill for Dunn, if offerred, was ludicrous. I posted on this board in '05 or '06 that we should get Aubrey Huff for Hill in a second. Of course in 2007 I looked like a doofus and I thought as much. And now in retrospect that all looks pretty good. Not claiming to have been "right," but I am amazed by how fortunes turn quickly. Truffle, the cheerleader is beautiful. But is there something else in the picture that this middle-aged guy is missing?
  12. Surprised at the $ figure. Blanco was really overpaid during his time here.
  13. Irrelevant. Where did he bat in Texas last year? Doesn't that kind of skew the stats? It doesn't matter where he bats.
  14. 2/16M. Does this sound pretty cheap?
  15. Wasn't his wife murdered? You don't recover from that. Give him a break.
  16. I'm sorry, I have an extremely difficult time describing someone as a very good hitter when their career batting average is .247, they average 160+ strikeouts a year, and his career RISP is .241 (.208 with RISP and 2 outs.) Sometimes, the situation demands a player step up to the plate and drive in a run, and he can't deliver that. His career numbers prove it. These SHOULD matter. Listen, OBP and SLG are great numbers to have...I know. But Dunn is basically another Soriano, only with the ability to take a walk and not steal a base. Most people here hate Soriano, yet praise Dunn profusely. He's a valuable offensive piece overall that just doesn't make sense for this team based on our needs. I'm sure this has been responded too, but I must call you on your silliness. A .247 lifetime hitter who hits .241 with RISP is totally in line. The .208 with 2 outs is also in line because he probably has a platoon advantage less than normal. Professional baseball is too hard to turn on and off. He drives in exactly what he should given the amount of walks he takes. And if a guy expands his strike zone with runners on base, MLB pitchers figure that out pretty quickly.
  17. Until the use of the term "RBI" triggers an automatic freeze of one's posting privileges it will continue.
  18. Chris Tucker should star in The Felix Pie Story.
  19. Really? That's the only difference you see between the two of them in terms of their plate approach? Their value to the Cubs? Not being critical, just honestly curious about your feelings here. Edit: It appears you were estimating what things looked like through Lou/Hendry's eyes. Retracted My thought was the production of DeRosa last year and Fontenot vs. righties last year is similar, i.e., the Cub offense will score about the same amount of runs with either the primary second baseman. I don't think having another lefty bat, namely Fontenot's, really makes a difference. Now if that lefty bat was Texeira I suppose it would (I know he's a switch hitter).
  20. Do you really think they look at stats that closely? He bats lefty. I like Fontenot, love his plate approach. But is there really a difference between him and DeRosa? It's just handedness. Bradley can bat lefty. BTW, I like Bradley, always have.
  21. Cubs not part of the filing. Not sure how that works.
  22. Done per CNBC.
  23. May be time to give Guzman the winter off.
