  1. You do realize that his daughter financially supports the Democrats? One of the top donors of right alongside Harvey Weinstein. So I'd call it wash. No. It's ok to support the Democrats.
  2. You do realize that he financially supports Republican politicians?
  3. I remember doing this after the heartbreaking 1984 season. I thought the Cubs could be even better by having a healthy Dick Ruthven in 1985. I figure Ruthven was probably a Joe Blanton-type pitcher. Ah the spirit of youth. In 2018 Lester, Hendricks and Quintana made all their starts. Hamels-Chatwood did too. Montgomery-Darvish made 27 starts. Seven starts were made by "replacement" level pitchers. I'll say. IP H R ER HR BB SO ERA 23 24 21 21 5 13 26 8.22 Hamels-Chatwood 172 145 79 75 15 111 156 3.92 Monty-Darvish 138 140 67 62 15 49 119 4.05 Without looking at other contenders I would guess that getting 59 starts, 310 innings with a sub 4.00 ERA out of one's 4th and 5th starters is pretty good. And only having 7 starts made by your AAA staff is probably low as well. But the young adult of 1984 still wonders how much better the Cubs will be if Darvish can beat that last line and Hamels can pitch 200 innings. By the way in doing this I saw that righties only hit .150 against Chatwood. .359 OBP.
  4. Well I have a relationship with Bryan Price, so that would be cool for me.
  5. Johnson with Reds already.
  6. Crazy game! If I ever meet Rosario I will apologize.
  7. If Rosario gets 1 out I'll be surprised.
  8. Another opportunity to marvel at how much better the Brewers' off season was compared to ours.
  9. Thank you for seeing what I saw. Cain just froze at first for some reason When I saw Bryant running to 3rd I thought, "did he catch it?" Maybe Cain thought the same thing. Great minds...
  10. Four game lead with five left against the Brewers is not quite "comfortable." Could be three tomorrow.
  11. Even if he would have had TJS two months ago he would not have helped much next year. So he'll be penciled in for 2020 and that's that. Not his first rodeo, but pretty fast turnaround for number two.
  12. Soria apparently injured.
  13. Brewers blowing up in 9th.
  14. What did we give up for Kintzler?
  15. Done according to MLB.com We discussed him in December. Is he signed through next year?
  16. The Cubs will trade Maples for a Tommy Hunter-type from a lousy team.
  17. Honestly, I'll consider this whole draft a win as long as we don't pick him. The Cubs don't need the bad publicity, but I wonder on a more societal level whether he should forever be barred based on a teenage mistake (his claims of innocence not withstanding). The move toward felons voting is picking up steam, and I think that's probably consistent with where our society is going. The Obama Administration was very committed to the idea of keeping the official records of teen offenders clean as not to hamper them later on (see Nikolas Cruz). I just wonder if Luke Hemlich is different because he might make millions of dollars.
  18. First guy I thought of was Bob Horner. Too many youngsters here to appreciate the high quality of this post. I'm even older. I was thinking of Joe Hoerner.
  19. Theo is so great. He said Darvish was the number one priority going into the off-season. Which of us thought that? We all figured on Cobb, I suppose. And when Chatwood signed it made Cobb seem redundant in that they are both "4s". I never thought it could be a setup for Darvish. I figured the TOR starter to replace Arietta would come by trade. Just awesome.
  20. Maybe take Ellsbury, 3/68M left, make the Yankees pay what they can so we both stay below LT (if possible). We keep Darvish out of our league and get a couple of the Yankees pitching prospects. I know it's silly, but Darvish isn't dying to be here, so I don't want him on this beautiful team....until he signs and says all the right things.
  21. So don't go to the games. I am sympathetic to players getting their payday, but how do you force the owners to pay?
