  1. (on phone) " .... sooo, ... watcha doin?" Can you hear me now?
  2. don't worry, I already called Jake Fox on his cell
  3. Now a double play! There is the player we know and love.
  4. Who is that in your sig, Nav? Gabrielle Union she was in 10 Things I Hate About You , ok I got it. I probably shouldn't admit I saw that.
  5. Maybe its spring training for Gameday too.
  6. Well Cotts looks to be the left-handed arm to replace Glendon, while Aardsma was replacable in a system of hard throwing righties...especially with Jeff ND now in the fold for the future and Rocky Cherry stepping up.
  7. I'm glad he finally decided he needed the minor league time, instead of thinking he should go right to the majors. Hopefully after spending time in Lou's presence, and under his influence, he'll open his eyes a bit from his very narrow view of the game. I think a couple seasons in the minors, and then maybe some time as a bench coach under the right manager would help him a lot. But he won't be successful if he sticks to the rigid mentality of yesteryear. As a Sandberg fan, I'm pulling for him. I think like most things in life, your eyes open and your methods change with time and experience in a field. He'll learn hands on in the system and hopefully improve.
  8. I don't see the humor. He just insults and complains, and repeats the same stuff over and over. Cubdom, cheap owners, Prior and Wood, Ozzie, blah blah blah. I really don't see the humor. Don't forget Bartman, always seems to find a way to say that too. I think we should have a cage match, moronoriti vs. Rome, to the death. I'd pay for that.
  9. Since the cubs announced they would seek a trade for Miller if he didn't make the team (which as everyone knows will up his value  ), I don't see Miller losing this job in any way unless he gets hurt at this point. I didn't think the club announced that at all-Miller just said that he wasn't going to be a bullpen pitcher and then the reporters said that Hendry would likely accommodate him-I didn't actually see any quotes from anybody associated with the Cubs to that effect. I don't know if its a quote or not to be honest, I just don't like it being said. If its by a reporter than fine, but I'd think Hendry would maybe try to shoot back on something like that in some fashion as its not good for the club.
  10. Well, he only hit 90 once-they said he was 87-89 consistently. That's still a good improvement from the earlier reports, and I think he can be effective at that speed. And I also think he'll add a mile or two...Once he gets stronger with more work. I have no problem with Miller starting if he's healthy and productive, which I believe he will be. I like Guzman though and I always have hope for Prior.

  12. I know its the total pessimist in me, but when I see Prior's game got moved back a day, I think "cover up". I know its because he threw on the side, but I can't help it. I hope one day I don't feel like the cubs are constantly lying.
  13. Good choice. You won't be dissapointed. Well, I'm getting a free DVR, free HBO/Skinemax for 3 months, and $10 off a month for 10 months. The switch is just going to be weird because I am so used to the channels on Dish Network. Oh well. I like the way similar channels are grouped together with DirecTV. History, Discovery, and similar channels are from 269-289. Kids channels go from around 290-300, and so on. Last time I had any experience with Dish it wasn't like that. Once you get used to it I think you will enjoy it I couldn't agree more, the groupings, once learned, are easier to remember. The pay-per-view in the 100's bothered me off the bat, it felt like a void in the middle that i had to constantly skip, but everything is basically from 200-300 that's worth watching to me.
  14. I hope not. Theriot strikes me as a guy that could be exposed as an everyday player. I think the ebst fit for him is his current role. DeRosa would be a very expensive utility man. I'm not saying that your wrong about him being an expensive utility man, but I really have a problem with this way of thinking. If the better player doesn't play, it hurts the team. I don't know if its the case this time, but playing a player because he makes more is not smart. I understand, but at the same time I still feel DeRosa is probably the better player. If it turns out he is not, then RT should be playing. I'm fine with Derosa starting at long as Theriot gets some quality AB numbers, which I think he will do so. I just hate the idea of someone getting the job based on salary decisions.

  16. I remember the good old days of cheering... "Jody, Jody, Jody!"
  17. Maybe they wouldn't be interested in what the Cubs are offering and would be interested in somebody else's offer. I was just pointing out that opting out of his deal gives ARod the biggest freedom, without too much of a risk of throwing away money. That's true, but he'd have to take a discount to play for the Cubs. I can't imagine our budget could handle a 20M dollar player, not at least without trading one or more of Lee, Ramirez, Soriano, Marquis, Lilly and not re-upping Z. If he wants to play for the Cubs as this rumor suggests, his best shot to do so without giving up much cash is to get the Yanks to eat part of his remaining contract in some trade scenario. If he cares more about the money, he should opt out and sign with Boston, who would love the opportunity to pay back the Yanks for Clemens. I obviously don't know Arod, but I'd think after being the highest paid player and being unhappy for so many years, taking 15-17 per for 4 years or something like that and playing in a town that will worship you and a manager that you respect would be something he could swallow.
  18. It's an opt out clause right? So we'd have to sign him I'd imagine....how do the cubs afford that?
  19. What's a VCR? Its a mechanical tivo. Its runs on these things called tapes. My grandma had one once. :)
  20. This is true. And if you read through my posts, you'll see that I have given in to the fact this is probably going to happen. I'll go the MLB.TV route, but not DirecTV. But, I have every intention of continuing to complain about it. Bigbadb... I've had DirectTV for 6 months now. I had Dishnetwork for about 5 years and really loved it. I changed for a lower price and I like DirectTV just as much. At least by me, cable is more money so that's why I went the dish route...plus I do the big dish, dsl, phone, cell package that helps. Anyway, I do think its crap you don't have the choice, that you HAVE to pick DirectTV to watch it, although that's gotta be MLB's fault right? Also, these monopoly type rights aren't exclusive to tv watching. I do agree its not fair though....thank god I live in chicago again!
  21. CUT HIM! Yeah, Pierre could have done the same thing but in fewer pitches. darn right! lol
  22. It's nice to see Pie play well, but Lou's comments sure make it sound like the decision is already made that he's not going to be up right away. I think that's been the plan all along. Spring Training is never a very good time to make evaluations about whether or not a guy is ready for the big leagues. A guy might look really strong throughout Spring Training, but you can never be sure if he's just hit a hot streak or if it really is sustainable. Pie's looked really good so far, no doubt about it. However, considering the rules of service time and the fact that Pie still has some kinks to work out of his game, it would be a good idea to at least let him start the season in AAA and let him pound the door down. Besides, it'd be a huge headache having Soriano, Jones, Murton, Pie, Floyd, and Ward all competing for potential OF spots at once. I do see your point. If someone is not going to make it, it should be Pie going down. I'm just nervous about them moving guys around if Soriano doesn't work out in CF. If he has to move, i'd think moving now would be better than later. Its a tough call, and I won't be mad at all if Pie gets sent down, even though I'm a big anti-fan of Jones.
