  1. I don't care much about the rankings; it's just too bad that Amaya and Marquez seasons were wash outs.
  2. Seriously, Brewers Who the horsefeathers is Jake Cousins?
  3. Triantos' numbers after his first 2 games are fantastic. 10% K with a 150 wRC+
  4. I was thinking if my kids end up caring about sports I'll encourage them to pick whichever team they want to root for. If Tampa can keep dominating for the next couple years that will be quite an easy decision for them to make.
  5. That old ass Starling Marte is 36/39 in steals this year, including 14/14 since his trade to Oakland. Back up the Brinks truck for him please.
  6. Votto went into the ASB with a 257/347/463 line He's at 282/375/581 now Ridiculous
  7. History says “never”, as OL has been a concern every year I’ve watched this team (under multiple coaches and GM’s) It was league best throughout the 80s and quite good during much of Lovie's run. Angelo and Pace both went on extended runs of failing to address it, but it takes one or two signings to significantly upgrade things in a hurry. Yep 2005 they signed Tait and Brown and boom they had one of the best in the league
  8. Stringing along 2 of our very few stars in search of new contracts, injuries already, tough ass schedule, Nagy seemingly still lacking in coordinating the offense with playcalls taking more than half of the play clock up, and probably a few weeks starting Andy Dalton. Probably a 6-7 win season. Pace really hamstrings the team's depth with his continual proclivity for putting all his eggs in one basket. This Jenkins situation is infuriating.
  9. Launch angles Happ 9.4 Bote 10.2 Heyward 7.6 Wisdom 19.2 Ortega 18.5 Schwindel 18.1 I don’t think this is quite that simple. Just taking the top 50 hitters in wOBA as a proxy, 8 of them have sub-11 launch angles, and 8 have 18+. Bote’s launch angle is a career high and Heyward has never been higher than 11.3 while still having strong offensive seasons. Plus, even if we accept launch angle as decisive it’s still a symptom of something else which is unlikely to be universal across 3 or 6+ guys. You're right, the issues are aplenty. The line drives all but disappeared, we are 28th. Only Bryant (24.5) out of our regulars (not including Nico because of all the time missed, but kudos to him for his LD%) was above average (20.5%), Rizzo was right about average, and the rest below. Too many GB; Heyward and Willy are both at freaking 50%. Just God awful. We are also top 10 in IFFB%. To me it just spells out a lot of crappy contact just about throughout the roster. The sweet spot is classified as a BBE between 8-32 degrees. Huge chasm, really. But you see those guys' LA were right there on the low end of the spectrum. Meanwhile the AAAA group is much more in the meat. The xwobas on this team are mostly horrific because they have such crappy launch angles, no?
  10. Launch angles Happ 9.4 Bote 10.2 Heyward 7.6 Wisdom 19.2 Ortega 18.5 Schwindel 18.1
  11. The old core is better than the old core
  12. Bryant 0-3 on the night, dropping his SF line to 261/320/413. His last 7 games in particular have been awful. Edit: now 277/333/426 after a single and a double
  13. Willy Adames 2nd in position player fwar since the trade. Yelich-lite transaction yet?
  14. High fastballs seem to be a major organizational bugaboo. Also, curve balls.
  15. Struck out swinging 1st AB Against a rehabbing Luke Weaver. Rough draw for a pro debut for the 18 year old. True. Saw Weaver in the box score and just figured they had another horsefeathering brother coming up the ranks or something lol
  16. I made the 10 millionth post on PSD back in 2014 (or maybe it was 2013, whatever) and they gave me a reward of any jersey of my choosing. I chose a white Starlin jersey. Went against my first thought of getting a HOF like Sayers (already have/had Payton), MJ (wanted the cursive '85), or Banks. That's the last time I acquired a jersey of a player in any sport.
  17. I could see Triantos giving us something like that
  18. He really shouldn't have made the team even with a good camp
  19. Bummer that Killian's start was washed out. Too bad they didn't hold him out.
  20. Nothing's been mentioned, just that he was placed on the 7 day IL on 7/23 I thought he pulled a hammy and his season is likely done https://www.bleachernation.com/cubs/2021/07/22/sogard-does-one-thing-very-well-kimbrels-velo-hermosillo-pulled-draft-relocation-and-other-cubs-bullets/
  21. Yeah I look at the numbers and then the more recent reports and I see people project a 4 and I'm like wth I get that he's 24 but it's not like he's been repeating levels and languishing. His stats are ridiculous.
  22. There was a Tweet on Friday that had when everyone we traded for last pitched that I really wish I had saved. But most of the guys pitched mid week last week, so we'll see them all get starts likely in the next 2-3 days. I think the exception is Bailey Horn, who I believe got put on the Development List. (Basically it's like the IL but instead of being hurt you go hang out in the Pitch Lab for a few weeks.) Thank you
  23. Tampa loves fast groundball hitters. Shop there.
  24. I saw somebody claiming to have some inside knowledge on the matter say that the MRI the Mets received was unreadable, there was so much scar tissue in there, and that he received over a dozen cortisone and other inflammation-suppressing shots over his time at Vanderbilt.
