  1. Nobody can get the big hit. That was terrible Codym
  2. We are being extremely aggressive and he's just toying with us It's crazy how horrible we have been vs LHSP over the last month. They just dominate us.
  3. Exciting night from Sanders and Wiggins
  4. Bet this one rattled through his head a couple times last night. Fedde misses his location by a mile and this should have been sent to the street. https://www.mlb.com/video/erick-fedde-swinging-strike-to-christopher-morel?partnerId=web_video-playback-page_video-share Where do the Cubs rank in hard hit FB% to the pull-side? They had 2 more long flyouts to center last night. It feels like they just don't have guys who can yank em. They tend to hit gap-to-gap and that ends in a lot of hard-luck flyouts.
  5. Fun fact: the Tauch-off came on a 69 mph bat swing lol, but with a 6.5 ft swing length. Thank Kopech for providing the velo to get a 100 EV off of that. Just absolutely perfectly placed into the short LCF. https://www.mlb.com/video/analyzing-mike-tauchman-s-home-run-through-bat-tracking?partnerId=web_video-playback-page_video-share
  6. Yup don't give a horsefeathers who it was against. Cubs hadn't won back to back games in a month. Let's horsefeathers go! 2 4 run comeback wins in a row is pretty sweet too.
  7. Another first pitch walk off blast for the season, that's pretty awesome. horsefeathers yeah Tauchman!
  8. I think we saw the plate discipline and didn't expect such a high K rate but overall this is about where I'd hoped he would be.
  9. lol damn Hall too. See y'all in 2026
  10. Well Bregman is up to league-average now and already has 2 HR in June. You want to take a swing?
  11. He had 1 hit in his last 7 games with a 2:2 BBK. That's a lot of BIP leading to outs. Hope this gets him slugging again. Seeing him with a 20% K rate and a 300 ISO is such a huge win for us. I'm holding out hope still.
  12. Now that Statcast basically has metrics for everything scouts used to grade on, have you noticed some instances where the 2 just didn't align sensibly? Like for me, I would 'grade' players accordingly: Hit tool - contact% + some measure of contact-quality (LD%, 90th% EV) Game power - Average EV Raw power - Max EV (Judge/Elly/Stanton are 80s and you go down from there) Speed - I've noticed several players (I can't think of them off the top of my head right now) who graded as like 60 during their prospecting days and then have 98th% sprint speed, for example. Glove - speed + route efficiency for OF, first step + catchability + footwork for IF. Scouts have the tools to measure these in the lower levels, they just aren't fully collected and published like they are in AAA/MLB yet. I'm sure next year we will get them for AA and gradually each level will have these ready for public consumption.
  13. And it all adds up to Michael Busch's current offensive output.
  14. I don't care how short and fat he is. There are other guys they put above Mo who will probably suck in the field and be mostly bat-only guys. The dude is the 2nd youngest player in the league, has the 4th lowest K rate and 3rd highest BBK, 11th in ISO and 7th in wRC+. Honestly I don't even care to see scouting scores anymore. I don't think there's a single scout out there who put a 75 grade on Morel's bat speed, for example. I don't think these guys' visual evaluations are all that meaningful after Statcast's inception and continued innovations. Give me metrics or give me death.
  15. Fedde was a pretty hot prospect I used to hope we would trade for way back when. Looking at the pitch mix tells a pretty clear story. He's doing what everyone is doing these days: throw a splitter, which I am sure he developed in Korea.
  16. If the Cubs want a 120 bat that provides little value elsewhere there are several options aside from Alonso, who continues to decline offensively and defensively and has been worse than our own 1B. The Cubs have 2 other players that probably shouldn't play the field anymore and should occupy DH instead. Cronenworth is on the fringe due to Arraez and the rest of the roster Winker Ward Toro France You don't need to keep adding names just because, Jed.
  17. We have enough no-defense-won't-provide-value-from-anywhere-besides-offense types. I don't see how he helps much. He's been trash at the plate the last 2 years too.
  18. The walks from the pen are outrageous, Most teams these days tell their pitchers to throw their best stuff down the middle and trust the defense; I'm not sure if we subscribe to that philosophy. It doesn't feel like we do. Neris is going backward. His career low in K% is 24, he's never had a BB% over 13, and yet he's out there with a 19 and 17 in those respective categories. Hottovy absolutely has to get him right. The silver lining is that he has avoided hard contact; it could be a whole lot worse. I'm thinking Roberts will get a shot pretty quickly. They need more Tyson Miller types who throw strikes and don't beat themselves.
  19. It feels like the Cubs have been outscored by 100 runs in the first 5 innings of a game over the last month. They really have to do something about the sleepwalking starts they have.
  20. I actually predicted pretty damn close to this happening before we faced the Pirates the first time. I said by the time we face the Cardinals we could be 500 and right with them in the standings.
