  1. [tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet]Sean Doolittle just continues being awesome. Totally agree on new preventative measures to remove this stain from the game (hopefully forever).
  2. [tweet]https://twitter.com/WorldWideWob/status/1195518873971445765[/tweet] Damn. Nice move, Morant.

  4. What I would say to Christian Yelich:

  6. [tweet]https://twitter.com/TheNBACentral/status/1194459086416424966[/tweet] For anyone that missed the 3-pt barrage from Coby the other night. Dude was feeling it.
  7. Umm, wrong thread? Shouldn't that be in here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3195
  8. [tweet] [/tweet]That's pretty good lol
  9. This is a good hire IMO. I don't know what impact Justin Stone or Craig Breslow will have on this organization, but this could be big. I wasn't even aware this guy applied for the position. He was very highly regarded when he was in the Cards' FO. He's well-versed in analytics and is definitely more "new school" compared to Jason McLeod. Smart dude -- has a master's degree in statistics from Harvard. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/a-conversation-with-oakland-assistant-gm-dan-kantrovitz/ He probably didn't apply. Ah, I guarantee he did. This isn't really a promotion and I don't think the Cubs asked for permission to interview him. The scouting director job for the Cubs isn't more prestigious than being an AGM (I'm sure the pay is better though). Especially this role with the Cubs because the autonomy he will have is less than most scouting directors have with their clubs (Kiley McDaniel was alluding to this). This new guy is not the de facto #3 in the organization like McLeod used to be (maybe he still is).
  10. This horsefeathering liar...

  12. This has been well-known inside baseball. They also use cameras/advanced tech to figure out how a pitcher might be tipping their pitches. I'm surprised former players are admitting it now. I don't know if MLB can retroactively punish the Astros for this because I'm not sure if electronic sign-stealing was prohibited in 2017? I hope they get punished for this. Again, just like with human umps and an automated strike zone, there exists a technical solution. Have the pitcher and catcher wear an ear piece and have it called in on an encrypted signal. That should solve the problem.

  14. Definitely not looking good. I'm glad he went to another school and didn't just join a powerhouse program like Duke or Kentucky. It shouldn't affect his draft stock too much if he's ruled ineligible. I think a judge ruled he can temporarily play for now.
  15. I saw this the other day. It's super weird. I forgot about slim Miguel Cabrera lol.
  16. [tweet] [/tweet] It is indeed getting closer to becoming a reality. MLB will keep tinkering with the technology and the parameters of the strike zone. The technology isn't ready for implementation at the big league level, but ABS is going to happen in a few years. They need to perfect the technology to the point that players and pitchers find it superior to human umps, and some players were complaining in the AFL. I'm thinking the Player's Union will agree to it eventually, but not in the upcoming CBA discussions (financial issues and more important stuff to figure out). Probably not till the next next CBA so I'm thinking 2027 is the first year where roboumps finally happen. Then we won't have to talk about stupid pitch framing metrics and setup issues with catchers and dumb stuff like that. No expansion of the strike zone on 3-0 counts and contraction of the strike zone on 0-2 counts. Even the game itself should move at a faster pace with an automated strike zone.
  17. https://theathletic.com/1348067/2019/11/04/media-circus-how-soon-might-we-see-an-umpire-analyst-in-a-baseball-broadcast-booth/ Terrible idea -- nobody wants a horsefeathering ump in the broadcast booth. The interference ruling on Trea Turner in the WS was asinine. Someone trying to explain it and/or justify it only makes it worse.
  18. [tweet] [/tweet]I think we overlook how good Rizzo is on defense because we have El Mago on this team. I remember Derrek Lee was also really good defensively at 1B, but Rizzo is better. That defensive play at the 1:35 mark is excellent. I've never seen a first baseman make that play that deep up the 3B line and Rizzo has done that a few times now. Congrats on winning another Gold Glove:

  20. [tweet]https://twitter.com/keithlaw/status/1190293477520805889[/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet][tweet] [/tweet]"one-half of one-half percent of people..." ??? So like is he saying 25% of people, or like 0.25% of people? I know this much -- he's definitely not an analytics/math guy.
  21. That's a good question. I'm guessing because Beltran is a borderline HoF player (maybe has a solid case for the HoF) and was highly regarded by the Yankees? Both will have experienced bench coaches. David Ross is actually better prepared for this role IMO.
  22. That offseason I had a custom Beltran Cubs shersey made. Still have it and wear it on occasion!
  23. Doolittle is an awesome player and an even better person off the field. I wonder how many players will end up not going? I have no clue about Anthony Rendon and Juan Soto (I think they should also boycott to send a message). I fully expect Doolittle to be the only white player that refuses going. Definitely some scumbags on this team that agree with Trump and his politics like Adam Eaton.
