  1. Since there is no rumor thread anymore , I didn’t know where to put this , and it has nothing to do with Ryan Helsley 😂. Anyway have no idea if this account is reliable , but saw this :
  2. Fairbanks does seem more likely to me than Williams . Cubs have been connected to him in the past , and the Athletic writers said to keep an eye on him
  3. From what I read , Devin Williams market looks pretty strong despite the high era last season . One thing that’s gives some hope there is that apparently he would prefer to sign with a mid west team ( He is from St Louis ) . Already met with the Reds Also the connection with Counsell . The athletic writers sort of rule him out earlier , but if they were willing to give Scott 4 years last offseason , it doesn’t make sense to me not to pursue Williams this offseason when the team is coming of a playoff berth . I think they could look at Williams , especially if they trade for someone like Cabrera and his 4 million salary
  4. Rumor going around the Cubs have sign Phil Maton ( Per Michael Cerami )
  5. From everything I been reading , I would expect the reliever market to get going relatively soon . In terms of the Cubs i think we will be waiting a while . I don’t think they do anything until they get a SP . That move will set up the others with the budget . I think right now , their preference would be to make a trade . If they end up signing King , then we will see a lot of rosters spots taken care off in low cost moves .
  6. Yeah , roster resource has them at 191 million in LT for 26 , after this . That’s 53 under and they always save money for in season modes . If roster resource is right , they could have around 43 million for the offseason . Shota completely horsefeathered them off . My guess is they look much harder into a trade for Cabrera now . Also any hope of bringing a big bat via FA is also most likely gone .
  7. A lot of guys accepting QO offers . Woodruff , Imanaga , Torres , Grisham . Interesting
  8. Big blow to the offseason plan . It will be interesting to see what they do now . A trade for a low cost guy ( Cabrera ) or do they still go after Cease or King ?
  9. As we get closer to the decision , what do you think will happen ? I know national reporters have said he is expected to decline , but I still think he takes the QO . Hopefully not .
  10. Passan has the Cubs as one of the teams eyeing the top starting pitchers ( good sign ) . He also wrote the Cubs will be in on Bregman . I imagine Bregman would be a possibility if they somehow get 2 SP for under 20 million . ( Cabrera and ? ) . No way they are signing Cease with Bregman .
  11. I think Cabrera is perfect to pair with Cease . 3.7 arbitration projection . Cubs and Marlins have talked a lot and even had a deal agreed last winter . Talk about adding stuff to the staff , if they can pull it off . With that said , o be perfectly fine with Suarez / King + Cabrera . I don’t get the feeling the Cubs are a favorite for Imai but we will see .
  12. Laureano isn’t an option . Padres already picked the option up
  13. Well going by the early rumors , I wonder if the general plan is something like one of the top SP ( trade for Cabrera with Cassie involved ) and trading for Adell . Have Suzuki / Adell / Ballesteros taking the RF and DH at bats ? This depending on Shota declining the QO.
  14. It’s a shame on Williams because I read that his preference is to sign with a Midwest team . If they were willing to give 4 years to Scott last offseason , they should be willing to do so this offseason IMO . Coming off a playoff appearance , seems like a new competitive window has now open . Williams met with the Reds by the way . On a positive note it seems like there is a chance they will pursuit one of the top SP .
  15. Yeah , my guess here is Imanaga takes it and Hoyer really doesn’t mind 1/22 . It’s just the way he likes to build teams with as many 1 year guys as possible . If he does take it , they will add 1 SP and be done with the rotation .
  16. IMO , Marlins continue to be the team that fits the best with the Cubs ( Alcantara , Cabrera ) and Cassie / Long as really good fits for Mia . Cubs also have depth arms that they could include to replace the marlins SP.
  17. Cubs trade Kittridge back to Orioles for cash . I don’t like this , but could change my mind if they end up with one of the better closers ( but doubt it )
  18. Imanaga seems like a really cool dude and guys in the clubhouse seem to love him . However the reality is that he perform like a bottom of the rotation pitcher in 25 . Yes he had a really good run after the injury , but you have to look at his season entirely IMO. I am perfectly fine moving forward without him , if that turns out to be the case . I think this opens more possibilities with the rotation . In my perfect scenario , a FA signing and a trade . It’s time to get more strikeouts and stuff into this staff .
  19. As expected , some of the bigger names have started to opt out of deals . Diaz , Suarez / Bregman all free agent now.. I do wonder if the Cubs would consider going bigger in the bullpen , considering they are coming off a playoff year , and on paper looks difficult to add in a meaningful way on position players ? I know they aren’t signing Diaz , but an older guy like Suarez or trying to buy low on Devin Williams ERA ? Williams also has the Counsell connection as well . If they don’t pick up Kittredge , I think the possibility they go with a bigger bullpen move increases .
  20. So I was reading one of the front page articles , and it says the Cubs are unlikely to offer Imanaga a QO ( according to sources ) , if it gets to that point . I am a bit surprised if this is true . Hoyer is more of a higher AAV , than a years guys . I think he would be ok with 1 / 22 . The AAV is a bit high , but i prefer they do that instead of locking for 3 more years .
  21. This will be the waiver claims offseason with all the 40 man roster spots they will have available . Prepare for an annoying number of them 😁
  22. Don’t expect this to be more than if your market falls to short term with opt outs type of interest . I think they will be heavily involved with Bieber .
  23. World Series hasn’t even started and there is already trade speculation on Skubal and Peralta . I totally expect the Brewers to trade Peralta and Miz will be a top 3 cy young finish with Ashby as a really good 2 , Patrick a very good 3 and Henderson a really solid backend guy
  24. Roster resource has the Cubs at 162 mil on luxury tax and that’s including 17 in player benefits . After a playoff appearance I would expect them to be right againts the 1st tier of the LT again . They have plenty of money to work with . They need to focus on stuff and strikeouts with their adds on the pitching staff . To upgrade the offense will be difficult , unless they deal Shaw or reduced his role .
