  1. It seems inconceivable to me that there are 4 teams with a worse BA than the Cubs. They lead in SO's which I guess makes it seem worse but I feel like I here "Strike right down the middle" 13 times a game.
  2. Obvious recency bias and me being a whiny bitch but has anyone ever been as lost at plate as Baez is now. I mean he's not swinging at pitches that are hitting him but he's got to be leading the galaxy in swinging at pitches that have a negative probability of being a strike.
  3. I LOVE the last ditch swipe with the bare hand as he's going down.
  4. Good ol' Koskue. Never got that 20 million contract I guess.
  5. I believe most teams are under the 60? You can add a player without having to expose another to waivers. Morrow is diabetic and opted out for health reasons I believe.
  6. Missed the last guy. #-o Thought he was crouchier.
  7. What’s as odd is that they only won 2 titles and reached only a handful of playoff appearances for 118 years of that stretch. Karma's a b1tch.
  8. Came across this today which was posted a couple of days ago on the anniversary. I remember watching this as a 13 year old and losing my mind. I watch the highlights a couple of times a year but this has some present day interviews with Steve Trout, Jody Davis, Sarge, Bobby Dernier that were cool to see. Along with comments from Ozzie Smith and Bruce Sutter. Sutter comes off as a pretty cool dude.
  9. I think they have all but admitted that number is there as a negotiating ploy - "okay fine we'll drop our demand for 114 games in exchange for..." whatever.
  10. Unlikely-mlb-players-who-owned-hall-of-famers Mlb.com had the above article published today and couldn't help but think former Cub Gary Woods deserved a mention. Woods batted .348 (16-for-46) lifetime against Hall of Fame left-hander Steve Carlton. Woods was a career back-up but whenever Carlton was on the mound you knew Woods was going to start. Woods hit over 100 pts higher against Carlton than he did the rest of the league.
  11. There are many ways to answer your question, but the $3.2B figure isn't the best. It's not a "return," it's a valuation. A simplified example is you buy a house for $100k. You do some renovations for $20k over a 10 year period. Over that timeframe, the real estate market heats up and the neighborhood becomes more valuable. Today, a real estate agent tells you that the house is worth $150k. This fact alone doesn't change your income or cash position. House Rich Cash Poor I'm half way there!
  12. No 5 Man Electrical Band - Signs ? Would've been my go to...but I'm old.
  13. It seems pretty obvious but okay. Workers in many (most?) industries are dramatically underpaid while in training for the positions that they are hoping to attain. In fact in many instances those positions are entirely unpaid. Ergo this is not even remotely a unique situation and given the potential reward at the end of the rainbow not really all that egregious. only idiots work for freeWell many of those positions - especially the political ones - lead to high paying powerful jobs. Many (most?) of the trades involve unpaid apprenticeships. Hundreds of other examples but, hey, I guess if you want to call all those people idiots that's your prerogative. Doesn't mean you're not wrong though.
  14. Unpaid internships are a fairly common thing. Which has what to do with the price of ginseng in Wisconsin? It seems pretty obvious but okay. 17. That's more ridiculous than saying it was because of his wife.
  18. Pitcher Sues Astros Thoughts?
  19. A sure indication of a historic season to come!
  20. It's Cubs baseball of course I'm stoked!! If you're not, go find a field hockey board to horsefeathering post on.
  21. Why do people keep pretending there is strategy involved here? Because there is? It's a lost battle and I've reconciled myself to that fact. I agree that it is stupid to have different rules in different leagues - which of course would have been just as easily fixed by eliminating the DH. AL managers refer to not having to worry about deciding whether to swap out pitchers when behind in a game all the time; so to say there is no strategy involved is absurd. You can argue about the value to the game about having to make those decisions but to say there is no strategy involved is disingenuous and undermines the integrity of any other point trying to be made. The continuation of the logic at play is then to simply have a fielding line up and a hitting line up - which I have to believe everyone would think would be an abomination. The simple litmus test for MYSELF is that this makes the game easier and to me that is just an indication that it is pandering to the masses. Lets move all outfield fences in 75 feet, start each inning with 1 out and a runner on 1st and second. We can have average scores akin to the NFL and games will last 90 minutes. My 2 cents as I sink down into the cold, welcoming water for the third time.
  22. If you're the first pitcher to face them don't you have to drill him with the first pitch and then just shrug your shoulders and say "Well I just assumed they'd have a sign for inside heat, my bad."
  23. So is it safe to assume Astsro's players are going to get buzzed inside a lot more next year, particularly the cocky Bregman - he of the let me carry this bat to first and hand it to my coach fame? Or was the sign stealing pervasive enough around the league where teams are just happy it was the Astros that were caught? I wonder if there were any pitchers who could conceivably have missed service time milestones as a result of getting hammered then released or sent down? How much, if any, of Altuve's power increase can be attributed to the sign stealing? So many questions.
