  1. darvish has been getting knocked around lately. hendricks could end up with a better era
  2. okay pick apart my terminology but you knew exactly what I meant. it means we are probably going to attempt to be competitive faster than some thought. teams dont typically trade away their best asset for 2 major leaguers when they're doing total and complete rebuilds. not to mention they did keep hendricks and willson. I honestly have no idea why you think that. They traded away everybody and will stink next year. They got what they could get to field a team. How does one witness this trading deadline and think it’s just a retooling? They gutted the roster and have garbage left. I used the word retool because I had just read a fangraphs article saying there were reasons to think the cubs were looking at more of a retool than a full on rebuild. like I said, you can say that retool is a bad word, but the rest of what I said is perfectly reasonable. they have way more in place at this moment than they did when theo took over. with a weak nl central and their lack of big contracts, they SHOULD be looking at being competitive by 2023.
  3. what? I'm saying it looks like they're going more for a couple down years than a full on tank and rebuild They’ve traded away everybody and stink. It’s a total and complete rebuild. okay pick apart my terminology but you knew exactly what I meant. it means we are probably going to attempt to be competitive faster than some thought. teams dont typically trade away their best asset for 2 major leaguers when they're doing total and complete rebuilds. not to mention they did keep hendricks and willson.
  4. What in the Sam Hill? what? I'm saying it looks like they're going more for a couple down years than a full on tank and rebuild
  5. that would be a massive, career altering regression, so of course he'd then suck He has ~300 career major league PAs. There would be nothing career altering/massive regression if he settles in as a ~.270 hitter. He’s a slap/singles hitter with not great speed or power. Hell, last time he had 200+ PAs at any level, A+ in 2019, he slashed .270/.340/.370. he hit .309/.371.398 overall in the minors with 51 walks and 21 k. i think you're underestimating just how good he is at that specific skill set. saying "if he hits .270, he's going to suck" just doesn't make sense to me. every baseball player could start sucking at any given time, especially young players with limited experience.
  6. 4 WAR pace with only a .324 babip this year. And last year with a .360 BABIP he was playing at like a .6 win pace. Hope I’m wrong, but just don’t see much upside here and think it wasn’t the proper use of Kimbrel as an asset to get a guy like this. The contact/batted ball profile seems pretty bad and he’s not too fast. I just don’t see how he sustains being like a .310+ hitter. And even if he regresses to like a .270 hitter there is little value. that would be a massive, career altering regression, so of course he'd then suck
  7. it seems like people are unhappy with getting young high ceiling guys and also unhappy about getting quality major league ready guys. i just don't understand why anyone was expecting to get both. kimbrel was very valuable but we didn't have a scherzer/turner type package to offer up. maybe i'm just happy that this hints at more of a retool than a rebuild, but i saw this trade and i was pretty happy, and i was fully aware of magridal's slappiness. he feels like a lock to be a good player.
  8. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/nick-madrigal-is-good-can-he-be-great/
  9. Before the season it would have actually been much more exciting. the point is that it was unrealistic
  10. i dont really get this take tbh. the kb trade is the one to be mad about.
  11. imagine being told before the season that we'd get a chance to turn kimbrel into madrigal and heuer
  12. getting major leaguers in the kimbrel trade plus a hurt PCA really killed our chances to move up dramatically.
  13. you aren't getting quality and quantity for 2 months of javy baez everyone suddenly loves our players again I cannot believe anyone here does not love Javy, even if they say he swings and misses or whatever the hell. He is the coolest baseballer alive, and we all know it. i love him, but i don't love the player he's become
  14. assuming health, kilian gets a shot in the rotation by next season, right?
  15. yes, because baez/bryant/rizzo are all comparable to perhaps the best relief pitcher of all time We literally just traded the best closer of all time today. and we got a fine return in that one. which trade are you complaining about? this all sucks and everyone should be mad, but considering the circumstances, jed's done fine in the trades. did anyone ever expect to get awesome prospects for 2 months of a semi-broken bryant/baez/rizzo?
  16. AA (?), but yes his numbers look awesome what does he throw? sigh.... of that sucks, i thought that was aaa
  17. yes, because baez/bryant/rizzo are all comparable to perhaps the best relief pitcher of all time
  18. kilian's numbers are insane at aaa this season at least we're getting a lot of guys ready for the majors
  19. this got my hopes up, but apparently it's bs
  20. what do they have that would be a win for us?
  21. this one hurts. he was our perfect little man.
