    How are you not an idiot? I am no more a troll than those that stick their head in the sand & claim we just ironically had a bad series...just like last year. How ironic would that be? So why did you say we should sign Soriano before we got him?

    Wow you are very misinformed. First of all, Abreu is OPS's .850-.900? You know it's 2008, right? Abreu 07- .814 Abreu 08- .843 Hmm. So you're assuming that at age 35 Abreu is suddenly going to become better instead of continuing his steady decline? Oh, and yeah he stole 20 bases the last 2 seasons, but they were Ryan Theriot totals. He was caught 11 times in 33 attempts last season. That is not helping the team, it's hurting the team, badly. I'm not sure why you're hyping his stolen bases when his success rates have gone down so dramatically and are likely to continue at age 35. Also, the Fontenot/Theriot comparison is just ridiculous. Other than the fact that they're both short, white, and have names ending in "ot" they are nothing alike. It's like comparing Juan Pierre to Dustin Pedroia. Theriot is a slap hitter who hits singles. Fontenot drives the ball to all field. He can hit bombs to all fields. Can you imagine Theriot going opposite field over the outfielders head? Saying that Fontenot is a singles hitter like Theriot makes me wonder if you hate Fontenot for some reason, because it's simply not true. Again- Abreu 07- .814 Abreu 08- .843 Fontenot career- .826 And where is this "he will wear down over 150 games" stuff coming from? Did you just make that up? It sound like it. Explain to me why you've come to that conclusion.

    It saddens me that I have no confidence whatsoever in the oranization taking the job away from Theriot. I'd be shocked if they were even considering it.

    He did? 02- .803 03- .874 04- .728 05- .720 06- .797 07- .860 Add in his .697 OPS from last season and basically he's sucked for 4 of the last 5 seasons.

    im certain hes an 800 ops guy who can reach 850 in a good year. Yup. I see no point whatsoever in getting Abreu when Fontenot oculd likely match or surpass the production Abreu would give us next year.

    where are these people? All over this board. The man love for Dunn on this board exceeds that for every player in the league whose first name doesn't start with Geo. Just find one post on this board that implies that Dunn is just a small step behind Pujols. Just one.

    Dunn is overrated. There's alot of people who consider him to be just a small step behind Pujols as an elite hitter, when he's not even close. He's regarded as comparable in value to players like Berkman, Utley, H Ramirez, Chipper Jones, etc. Some people seem to think of him as highly as Manny (not many, but a few) as a hitter, and he's not even close. Yeah, there are also people that think Derrek Lee is still an elite hitter and that Jasom Bartlett was te MVP of the Rays this season. It's your fault for paying attention to such people. Seriously, anybody who is even moderately knowledgable about baseball doesn't make those comparisons. I don't know where you're getting them. Anyways, I don't really see how Dunn is overrated at all. I never here people rave about him. I never hear ESPN talk aobut how much money he's going to make this offseason. When he was traded to the Diamondbacks you barely hard anything about it outside of Arizona. If anything, I think he's underrated. I much moreoften hear the "he hits for too low of an average" stuff than I hear "he's an elite hitter" type stuff.

    Why? You're acting like our 3-4-5 hitters are Pujols/Arod/Manny and our 6-7-8 guys are Nieifi/Macias/Patterson. Our lineup this season was extremely balanced...the 3-4-5 wasn't really significantly better than the 6-7-8. so I don't see why getting on base in front of Lee is anymore important than getting on base in front of...say...DeRosa.

    Do we really need another .800-.850 OPS hitter? I don't see what Abreu could do for this team. I'd rather slide DeRosa to right and give Fontenot an every day spot and see what he can do over the course of a full season than spend money on Abreu.

    Strikeouts are overrated. Dunn is a vastly superior player to Soriano. Not the same player outside of the horrendous strike out rate. There's not much difference IMO. Soriano is Dunn of the tools first guys. Dunn is the Soriano of the SABR guys. Both are really flawed players. Dusty? Is that you? Soriano and Dunn are not at all alike. They both strike out a lot and that's it. To say there's not much difference is pretty ridiculous. Soriano swings at everything Dunn swings at strikes. Yeah, pretty big difference. Plus Dunn hits for way more power while Soriano hits for better average and is faster. Same player though...totally. I'm glad you understood what I said thank you. :roll: They are not alike as players but in terms of where they stand on the SABR vs. Tools debate they both stand at about the same spot on the spectrum both are hilariously overrated by the guys on their argument side. I don't think that's true at all. I think people that actually know baseball accurately rate those guys. Of course you'll have the casual fans who are all "omg soriano is an mvp caliber player!" but you can't really pay attention to that. Most baseball people understand what those guys are.... .900 OPS corner outfielders with terrible defense.

    But more importantly, who is better looking? Roberts has more a boyish charm, but DeRosa has that rugged manly look going when he has a beard. Wait, what?

    Pick up the option and then just don't use him until September. Seriously though, he shouldn't be a problem as long as people understand what we're getting. With Prior everybody always had expectations of him staying healthy and that's where the problems started. We need to realize that Harden won't stay healthy all year, it simply will not happen. Still, as others have said, 20 starts of Harden is well worth the 7 million. That said, I really think we need another good SP because I don't expect Dempster to come close to matching last year's numbers and Harden could miss practically the entire season without anybody being surprised.

    I don't think I've ever been on a message board where you see that a guy recently made a post and you KNOW 100% what it's going to be about, no matter what thread or forum it's in. There could be a post about the bailout and he's find a way to bring Soriano into it.

    Somebody who posts there needs to show him the season numbers of Roberts and DeRosa and then ask him to explain how Roberts would have been a big upgrade over DeRosa. As fr the second bolded pardt, ask if he was happy during the regular season when DeRosa was having a career year and outperforming Roberts. Or how about whether or not he was happy as DeRosa was one of the 2 Cubs that actually hit in the playoffs. Also, somebody needs to explain to him that we wouldn't have gotten the Fontenot production if Roberts was acquired. What was the overall production from 2B for the Cubs this year? Cubs 2nd basemen produced a 836 OPS. Is it really that low? Where can I find individual positional splits?

    First off, I'm NOT saying I want him..... but does anybody else feel like this is going to be the guy Hendry ends up getting? Lefty, can play RF (can he still?), could hit in the middle of the order. He's coming off a .304/.360/.552 year so I could see Hendry wanting to get him.

    It wouldn't surprise me if Hendry wanted to get Roberts, slide DeRosa to RF and then let Fuku/Pie battle it out of the other half of a CF platoon with Johnson. I'd much rather go hard after an impact middle of the order bat, but I don't think Hendry has the resources to sign/trade for someone like that.
