  1. I was referring to several of the other hits he allowed. And yes, the ground balls that the fielders booted were also hard-hit. If he hadn't been unlucky they were booted, he'd have been very lucky they were at'em balls. He was adequate last night, but nothing particularly special. Whether you consider that "good" or not is semantics. He should have only allowed 1 run, and that on a home run from a guy who homers off of everybody. He was pounding the zone and was not just "adequate", he was the good Zambrano. Not to mention that ridiculous 2nd inning wore him down and made him throw a ton of pitches. If Derosa turns that double play I can say with confidence that he would have gone at least 7 innings, giving up just the one run.
  2. It really really really pisses me off that all the jokers on ESPN last night and today were talking about how "the bad Zambrano" showed up. Give me a break. He gave up 3 runs- one of which wouldn't have occured if not for Theriot and Derosa blowing it, another on a Manny home run, and the 3rd when he was out of the game and Cotts allowed the run to score. He was throwing strikes and had great stuff.
  3. By the way, I didn't find those pictures funny at all, and that's not because they were making fun of the Cubs. Good idea, just terrible execution. I laughed at the one with Dempster on the newspaper and that was about it. The rest just reminded me of that kid at parties who tries so hard to be funny and really he's just annoying and his materal is the stuff of 14 year olds.
  4. You should. We are toast... As for next year? I'm worried about the continued declines of Soriano, Ram, and Dlee. You mean the continued declines of Lee? Soriano has shown no signs of declining at the plate. He had a typical Soriano year....and for much of the year he was putting up career number (rate wise). Ramirez hasn't declined, he's just different. His numbers were also brought down by 2 ridiculously bad o-fers.
  5. How about you get rid of your avatar. That thing slows down the entire page
  6. After all that went on this season, it sickens me to see that board all happy and excited. That should be us. All season we laughed at how they'd flip out at the Dodgers when they were playing like little leaguers. Meanwhile, we were cruising to a 97 win season. Now, 2 games into the postseason everything has flipped around....just like that. Everything that happened in the regular season is meaningless...just like that. Sickening.
  7. Not really. His career minor league line was 270 .349 .501 850
  8. Somebody needs to give Soriano a glowing piece of that rock
  9. I'm not really optimistic at all, but in the year when the Cubs finally win the World Series, wouldn't it have to go like this? The Red Sox had to overcome a 3-0 deficit to finally win theirs, it only makes sense that we'd have to do something similar to end ours. By the way, when the Red Sox came back from 3-0, Joe Torre was managing the opposition. Just sayin...
  10. It would be neat if Lou actually led us a playoff win one day. Not a series win (that's just unreasonable), just a single game.
  11. You're right, he is a good player.....in Japan. Just like Kaz, Iguchi, etc...
  12. Question- what is the highest amount of wins ever reached in the regular season for a team that was swept in the first round of the playoffs?
  13. Piniella going 0-6 in the Playoffs with the Cubs would be a complete disgrace.
  14. Lou is a moron. Let's think about the sequence of events involving Fukudome. -Fukudome sucks terribly for about 4 straight months -Fukudome starts playing only against RHP -Fukudome still sucks -Cubs make the playoff, Lou put Fukudome in starting lineup -FUkudome still sucks Seriously, Fukudome has been trash for months. Why is Lou surprised that he's not performing? Why did he not anticpate that? Dumb.
  15. So let me get this straight. Fukudome is trash for about 4 straight months, Lou starts him in the playoffs, he's still trash, and then Lou is surprised/upset? Good job Lou Yeah but Dusty would have done the exact same thing, but still defended him, and then made some sort of weird fishing analogy that confuses everyone and causes him to change the subject. Also Mike Fontenot would be out of baseball if Dusty was still the manager, so the next best option would have been like Steve Finley or something, but still. Why are we comparing Lou to Dusty though? Dusty should not be the standard manager to make comparisons about. Everybody is better than Dusty, so you shouldn't be congratulated for it. Fukudome has been trash for months and everybody knew it. It's Lou's fault for playing him.
  16. So let me get this straight. Fukudome is trash for about 4 straight months, Lou starts him in the playoffs, he's still trash, and then Lou is surprised/upset? Good job Lou
  17. The worst thing about Kosuke is that it's going to make it nearly impossible to spend money on a new right fielder when we've already got one making 48 mil. ANother outstanding Jim Hendry signing. I think he's trying to assemble the most disastrous outfield ever.
  18. What did Lou say about Fukudome? YOU'RE THE MANAGER LOU. YOU HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO PINCH HIT FOR PLAYERS WHO AREN'T PERFORMING. EVERYBODY WHO WATCHYES BASEBALL KNOWS HE SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN PLAYING. Lou makes me sick. What a terrible manager.
  19. Had he said that about three weeks ago in General Baseball, no one would have thought anything of it. Saying it in the middle of a contentious game thread full of pissed off Cubs fan is generally a bad idea. So the truth is bad? So after Al Davis dies, would it be appropriate to go to his funeral and scream "AL WAS AN A-HOLE!!!!" in front of his mourning family? I mean, it's true.
  20. By the way, we're in October and I still haven't seen Fukudome's supposed rocket arm
  21. By the way, it should be pointed out how badly Torre outmanaged Lou last inning. instead of going with the lefty vs Fukudome (which would have forced Lou to take Fukudome out) he went with the righty so Lou would leave the auto-out in the game. Of course, Lou sits on his ass and lets Fukudome hit.
  22. The contracts of our aging corner outfielders and infielders are going to look terrible in 2-3 years from now.
