  1. Well one joker makes something up and then everybody piggybacks it
  2. 1.30 1.54 1.39 1.23 1.28 Those are Gregg's WHIP numbers over the past 5 seasons. Neat.
  3. We just traded our 2008 4th ranked organizational prospect (BA) for Kevin Gregg. Kevin Gregg. If we lose Wood and this is our only replacement then our bullpen is going to be pretty ugly next year.
  4. Eww. 8.25 mil is expensive for a RF with crappy production like that. I'd rather move DeRosa to right and give Fontenot a full time job than get Winn
  5. Not going to happen because he doesn't hit left handed.
  6. You know the A's aren't competing next year...right?
  7. Donnie, I really want to believe you man. What did your sources tell you then? Really nothing beyond "Jake wants to be in Chicago" and "Atlanta isn't going to happen". I have more to say, but the more I think about it the more it could hurt the Cubs chances of getting him. I'm a Cubs fan first and foremost so I will not risk reducing the Cubs chances of getting one of the best pitchers in MLB just to improve my credibility with the board as a whole. Is your source Peace, Belkast or Big Bird over at Oriole Hangout. Those guys called the Cubs deal for Brian Roberts last years weeks before it happened. So did every single writer
  8. Here's the Wittenmeyer article in question Wow, way to jump to conclusions. So everybody lied about the Cubs actually being interested in Peavy and Lou just spoiled everyone's master plan? Right.
  9. So let me get this straight.....his "sources" are just now coming out and telling him that the Cubs weren't serious about getting Peavy? Why now? Why hasn't anyone else heard this? The sources must have been swon to secrecy by Jim Hendyr to not reveal his masterful plan to help Towers. I guess one of them accidentaly slip when the great Gordon Wittenmeyer asked him about it. "Hey, I read that quote from Piniella...is he just playing dumb or was the Cubs interest in Peavy phony?" "Yeah, they were never interested.....OOPS" "Aha! Got you. I'm going to break this story and become huge!" Wittenmeyer is taking one Piniella quote, twisting ito ut of context, and then writing some BS about what "his sources have told him". I don't think we get Peavy, but that's a garbage article from a garbage writer. Isn't this the same Gordon Wittenmeyer who constantly publishes rumors that are way out there and not even close to being true? Like last season when he claimed we were on our way to getting Bedard and Roberts?
  10. Yeah, I don't believe that for a second. Wittenmeyer is a big time hack
  11. I'll take the over. What about under 1.25 WHIP on the two? The last time either of them had a WHIP that low was 2004. You mean a WHIP that high?
  12. You know he has like 100 posts in like 5 years, right? I'm not saying I believe him, but he's rarely on here anyways and when he posts it's been late at night, so I'm not sure what your point is.
  13. This is really starting to feel like the Roberts thread. Everybody is just kind of hanging around rehashing the same stuff and waiting for something new. Sucks
  14. It would seem kind of silly to build a team around power when you play half your games in Petco.
  15. This thread reminded me of the Roberts stuff from last year so I went and checked out OH again just for fun. I saw a Roberts thread and one of the first posts I read was one from bigbird saying "Better than a 50% chance Roberts gets traded this offseason" followed by dozens of posts of people asking him for more info and details. Pretty funny.
  16. We need a Bruce update. He's the only person I trust.
  17. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/8782170/Brewers'-veterans-could-be-dealt-for-pitching-help Christ Towers, why are you wasting time with the Braves, who are unwilling to include their top prospects when Hendry is basically willing to give up any prospect or prospect package, minus Samardzjia, who he is unable to due to an NTC. Because Towers doesn't care about which team is being nicer, he cares about getting the best players back. If a team's 12th best prospect is better than another team's 2nd best prospect, he's going to take the first team's 12th best prospect. There's a reason Hendry is willing to give up any prospect...because we don't have anybody good enough to be off limits.
  18. His teeth aren't THAT bad. It's just that one that goes way in for some reason. Can you even fix stuff like that without braces?
  19. So you don't want to trade Vitters because then you lose the trade value of Vitters...how many bigger fish exist than Jake Peavy? Sorry, that's just a nonsense argument. Did you even read what I said? Seriously. I never said I wouldn't trade him (in fact, I very clearly said I would), I just said that there are more factors in trading him than his value to the Cubs in 3-4 years. Read.
  20. Well you can't really use the "we'll have plenty of prospects by the time he's ready" argument because that's not the only value Vitters has. He still has value through trades. If we trade him for peavy we're not just losing out on his potential major league services, we're losing the ability to trade him for something else. I would definitely trade him for peavy though without even thinking about it.
  21. So Rosenthal says the talks have reached a standstill and the Braves are getting pissed...Olney says talks "continue to make progress". Rosenthal says the Pads put in new proposals to each team but neither changed their offer..... Olney says they Cubs and Pads are trying to involve a 3rd team. This is why I have a hard time believing any of these guys. At least one of them is obviously very wrong right now.
  22. Olney says the Cubs and padres are trying to get a 3rd team involved- So Olney and Rosenthal just reported 2 very different stories. Which is more reliable (or least unreliable) of those 2?
