  1. it probably shouldn't have been under 4, but close to 5 would be really high with a 1.26 whip
  2. okay i give up.. ill do it - Ramirez regains his old power, continues with his new patience, and enjoys a career year - .300/.400/.560 - Lou doesn't abuse Zambrano as much and he manages to stay good for an entire season...putting up an era near 3 - Milton Bradley stays relatively healthy, but only puts up an .840 OPS - Lilly sees a drop in velocity and suffers... finishes the season with an era around 5
  3. i think a lot of people just think about the bloody sock, the postseason numbers, and his big mouth and forget the fact that when schilling was in his prime he was ridiculously good. in 02 he had 316 k's and still had a 9.6:1 K:BB. that's ridiculous. a guy like glavine will get in because he has 300 wins, but schilling (who has significantly better numbers for his career) will be left out because he has less innings and wins. i don't think that's right.
  4. the vast majority of players who completely flop at the big league level (over the course of a full season) do so because they're just not good enough or can't make the necessary adjustments against big league pitching, not because they're too young or whatever. i don't care if ronny was 23 or 33, his performance in 2006 showed there was a strong chance that he could not become an adequate major league player. soto and hoffpauir weren't given the chance at age 23 because they had not seemingly mastered lower levels of play, as it seemed that cedeno had. but once you've done well against AAA pitching then you should be ready to face major league pitching. age really doesn't matter here. your "argument" is bad. are you saying his argument doesn't exist? and yeah, i don't see how you can say age doesn't matter here
  5. that may be a good sign if you remember the celtics of the 80's were the ugliest group of players ever assembled, but yet one a title They didn't two a title? you're not allowed to correct a teacher
  6. replace the word "bako" with "nearly every single backup catcher in the history of baseball" and that sentence is more accurate. i had no idea that blanco had such a historic season last year
  7. I think we all would be he's the token LHP I don't understand why the Cubs didn't look into Beimal, Ohman, and Reyes while they were available at bargain-basement prices. The Giants are reportedly shopping Jack Taschner. I wonder if we could get him for either Fox or Hoffpauir plus a low level prospect or 2. That sounds terrible. Taschner is worse than Cotts. A lot worse actually
  8. so is it safe to say David Patton is this spring training's rocky cherry?
  9. i still question how good floyd is so this is a good insurance move.
  10. aramis' typical years ARE great. if all those things happen we'd be well over 89 wins i'd say.
  11. it probably is... the downward spiral of your recent posts is pretty concerning In fairness to meph, if he actually said "it might be more unlikely for the sun to not come up than for ricketts to die in a car accident", he would be right. Basically, that statement means it is more likely for the sun to rise than for Ricketts to die in a car accident. that's not what he said. i don't really care anymore though. i don't know why people got so uppity about it I pulled that quote directly from you. And, the very top of the page answers the bolded for you. that was a typo what's at the top of the page? nsbb.com?
  12. Yeah I like Gregg Marmol Heilman Cotts Guz Gaudin Vizcaino

  14. I think (HOPE) that Koyie's had a good enough spring to make the team. Hopefully this doesn't give Bako the edge :( Yeah, the consequences of having Bakos .312 SLG (62 OPS+) make the team over Hills .280 SLG (38 OPS+) would be of epic proportions. The difference is that Hill has 231 career ABs to Bako's 2086. Hill has hit pretty well at AAA in the last 2 seasons so there's at least a chance he could be decent. With Bako you know you're getting garbage.

  16. no one is going to pound ovy for that. no one pounded sean avery for doing pushups after he scored a goal a few years ago, no one is going to go after him now. The Tampa guys will remember. The Avery thing is different because he's insane and you can't just take runs at him. Yah, I really doubt the Tampa guys care. The only people who care are people like Don Cherry, and they don't matter much. A few of the Tampa guys voiced their displeasure after the game and said they won't forget it
  17. i already said i didn't think he actually believed it, which is why im wondering why he got all pissy about me joking about it
  18. well, if meph really believes that what he said is true.....
  19. because i jokingly told him to stop talking after he said it might be more unlikely for the sun to not come up than for ricketts to die in a car accident? ok
  20. What more does he need to build on? Theriot is cheap and gives you above average offensive production at SS. . Defense. Theriot might give you slightly above average offense for the shortstop position, but well below average defense. that's wrong. he's not well below average defensively. based on what? highly questionable defensive metrics that are supposed to be really good but are always wildly inconsistent? defense is one of those things where you have to attempt to judge it for yourself, as hard and inconclusive as that may be. since theriot plays for the cubs and i watch the majority of the games, i can say with pretty good confidence that he is well below average. he has very poor range and a very poor arm.
  21. i thought the "maybe you should just stop talking" was tongue in cheek more than anything. i'm pretty sure he didn't actually think the sun not coming up is more likely than ricketts dying.
  22. Maybe it's best if you let me decide who should stop talking. What'dya think ? okay but make sure you take into account people who say the sun failing to come up in the next 3 years might be more likely than a guy dying in a car accident. thx
