  1. The Angels. 3 of their top starters are opening the season on the DL. And there's a lot to worry about there too.
  2. I'm sure this will be followed by a bunch of "here's the first irrational worry thread", but I think this is a pretty valid concern. Harden is Harden and he's looked awful so far this spring. His velocity is way down. Is that him taking it easy, or is that what we can expect in the regular season? You'd think he would have dialed it up a little today since it's his last start before the regular season, but he looked awful. Then there's Lilly. We all remember how it took Lilly like a month into the regular season to get his velocity back up, and we all saw that he can't have success if he's lost 2-3 MPH on his fastball. I fully expect that to happen again at the beginning of this season, especially with the lack of workload he got due to being in the WBC. But what if it lasts beyond the first month of the season? He's 33, so it wouldn't be that shocking. Dempster shhould be good enough (I'm expecting like a 3.95 ERA, 1.30 WHIP), but he's obviously another question mark. I know you can play this game with a lot of rotations, but what contender with a supposedly good rotation has questions marks this big? Would it really be a shock if all 3 of these guys sucked, or at least 2 of the 3?
  3. man when it's all said and done, if the sale of the cubs ended up costing us peavy, that would really really suck
  4. he throws high 90's?
  5. Watched this guy for the first time tonight. He seems to have a really awkward delivery. Doesn't look like he uses his legs too much. For a guy that throws high 90's, isn't this a recipe for arm/elbow/shoulder problems???
  6. looks a lot like the baseball cube now. looks good.
  7. keep in mind this is the same site that wrigley23 cites when trying to validate an argument.
  8. so you're saying is he'll get shelled in a few games. sweet. yes, he hasn't gotten shelled in almost a decade. the last time he had a below average season (when he was on the field) was 2000. there's a big difference between inconsistency and getting shelled. what matters is your overall numbers for the season. yup, he had a bad first half last season, and he made up for it in the second half. i just don't understand where the "he's going to get shelled" stuff is coming from. i haven't seen a single reason why that's suddenly going to happen. i also don't understand why you like jackson. he supposedly has good stuff. too bad he sucks. i have no idea how he kept his era so low last season. he walks a ton of guys but doesn't stikre anybody out. so far for his career he has a 1.63 whip with a 6.1 K/9 and almost as many walks as k's. his minor league numbers aren't very good either. he had a couple nice stints at aa and that's it. but those lines up there are (shell) lines... i just don't trust burnett...simple as that... i don't like taking guys on my fantasy team who you have to play russian roulette Sabathia 3/31- 5.1 IP, 5 ER 4/11- 3 IP, 9 ER 4/16- 4 IP, 9 ER Webb 6/17- 3.1 IP, 7 ER 8/26- 4.2 IP, 6 ER 8/31- 3.1 IP, 6 ER 9/6- 5.2 IP, 7 ER Beckett 5/18- 7 IP, 6 ER 7/30- 5.1 IP, 7 ER 8/17- 2.1 IP, 8 ER You can do this for a lot of guys. I just don't get why you'd pass up a guy who is usually good but sometimes has bad games (like pretty much every pitcher out there) for a guy who flat out sucks, especially for fantasy.
  9. this ducks/nucks game is wild
  10. so you're saying is he'll get shelled in a few games. sweet. yes, he hasn't gotten shelled in almost a decade. the last time he had a below average season (when he was on the field) was 2000. there's a big difference between inconsistency and getting shelled. what matters is your overall numbers for the season. yup, he had a bad first half last season, and he made up for it in the second half. i just don't understand where the "he's going to get shelled" stuff is coming from. i haven't seen a single reason why that's suddenly going to happen. i also don't understand why you like jackson. he supposedly has good stuff. too bad he sucks. i have no idea how he kept his era so low last season. he walks a ton of guys but doesn't stikre anybody out. so far for his career he has a 1.63 whip with a 6.1 K/9 and almost as many walks as k's. his minor league numbers aren't very good either. he had a couple nice stints at aa and that's it.
  11. why? Because he's not really that good? He's also only been fully healthy during both his contract years. His average ERA jumped up quite a bit when he moved from FLA to TOR. His WHIP isn't anything to gawk at either. A.J. Burnett is pretty much useful for K's only. Granted on the Yankees he might get more wins now, but his inability to stay healthy for any year other than his contract year is unsettling, IMO i admit the health part, but when does burnett get shelled? i agree he's a bit overrated, but he's still a good pitcher. his only problem is the walks, which drive his WHIP up a bit. his era isn't great but it's still good. his WHIP doesn't really help you but it shouldn't hurt you either. like i said, i stay away from him because of health and his good-but-not-great numbers, but to take edwin jackson over him is just madness. there is no reason to think burnett will get lit up. he hasn't gotten lit up in almost a decade.
  12. but based on what? i still don't understand why you think burnett will get lit up. and to take edwin jackson over him? that's ridiculous. the only problem with burnett is his health. when he's on the field, he's good. even last year, in his worst season since 2000, he was still good.
  13. a year ago who would have thought that today the bears would have a stud young rb and a stud young qb?
  14. it's spring training. he's certainly had a bad spring, but c'mon. somebody will want him.
  15. fox isn't making the team. and patton shouldn't make it over guzman
  16. what's wrong with it? i think the pen looks better this year than it did last year, or at least the last 3 innings do. i'll take heilman/marmol/gregg over howry(or whatever garbage we were tossing out there in the 7th)/marmol/wood
  17. nobody is saying this solved all the bears problems or makes them a super bowl contender
  18. how good is orlando pace now?
  19. where'd you see this? supposedly it was on espn 1000
  20. is there anything more exciting than your team acquiring a stud player out of nowhere?
  21. Just because they are young pitchers? You can only get 2 different kinds of young players. Young pitchers, and young hitters. It's not like it would be some huge coincidence if the Padres wanted young pitching and so did the Cubs... for themselves.
  22. espn.com says the broncos have confirmed the deal
  23. we would have? why? scioscia isn't much better than dusty and he's definitely not better than lou..... and i'm only "meh" on lou.
  24. you need steals
