  1. It was the FOURTH inning and his team was losing. He got himself not only into scoring position, but 90 feet away from home plate. Could have scored on a passed ball, wild pitch, base hit, etc. You can't expect to chip into a lead without scoring runs. yeah, but down so many runs, you don't need guys getting CS, you need runners on base. What if he had gotten thrown out? I guess the notion was more stupid than anything. The glove slam, and both catcher "collisions" definitely are douchey... go back and watch the clips. I'll let the SBs slide. Either way, all of the plays and incidents show Morgan as an idiot if nothing else. the glove slam is no more douchey than what ted lilly did
  2. yea man racism is ruining the internet good thing it hasn't started happening in the real world yet
  3. he went all milton bradley as he left the field afterwards didn't he just hit some fan in the head with a ball like a week ago after being heckled?
  4. yeah i don't see how garza is a "big time SP"
  5. His slugging has improved every year, which tells me that he has started to figure things out, and is better than his career .413 slugging in MLB. His .456 is good for 3rd on the current team among regulars, and would be good enough next year to be in the top 5 on the team. Not only that, but he is one of a few guys on the team over the last 3 years who consistently hits well with men on base. Just because getting on base is a stength, doesn't mean you automatically are providing the best production for your team by hitting in the leadoff spot. I don't think he would be out of place there, but I do "think" he would be more comfortable down in the order and would be more valuable to his team based on his slugging and success with men on base (.842 OPS) and runners in scoring position (.865 OPS). That is terrible terrible terrible reasoning. i don't think it even qualifies as reasoning
  6. so the sharks got rid of nabakov so they could pay 4 million for niemi and niittymaki this season?
  7. lead is up to 7. the reds ran away with the division in a hurry
  8. but he wasn't a power hitting first baseman, so why penalize him for that? He was in that mold of first baggers like Will Clark and Olerud. Granted they both had a bit more power than Gracie, but they aren't Thome/Big Mac types. Would it have been nicer if he had more power? Hell ya. He still had a damn strong decade though. this makes no sense to me. i don't understand saying "he wasn't a power hitting first baseman", like that means it's okay that he didn't hit for power. it's like saying "michael barrett isn't a defensive catcher" after someone complains about his defense. mark grace not being a power hitter is a strike against him, at least when comparing him to others. it doesn't make his other stats better. power might not have been part of his game, but it's a huge part of THE game..... especially if you play first base.
  9. Love Grace, but I'm not sure a .449 slugging percentage from a 1B (especially in Wrigley) is good enough to be a top 20 player for that decade.
  10. i really want dunn, but man it's going to suck to have to put up with kaplan-esque meatheads whine about his skill set constantly.
  11. brandon phillips igniting the cardinals will go down as one of the biggest blunders in ohio sports history
  12. You mean his .335 OBP and sub .800 OPS?
  13. I can see it now- Hendry hires Sandberg. Sandberg then informs Hendry that Dunn isn't "his type of player". Cubs pass on Dunn.
  14. doc rivers is still whining about the perkins injury costing them the title?
  15. You mean the article that gave absolutely zero actual reasoning for hiring him? The whole basis of that argument was cliche garbage like "Sandberg understands the Cubs" and "Sandberg has paid his dues". I want a manager who actually understands what REALLY wins baseball games (hint: it's not bunting and "playing the game the right way")
  16. Why isn't Marmol's season getting the attention it deserves. It's better than the year that "won" a Cy Young Award for Eric Gagne. no it's not. not even close.
  17. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5qzQ2HBh0s#t=0m15s
  18. wtg brandon phillips. boy i bet he feels stupid now
  19. So he hates Gilbert, but maybe he'll play for him again? What a bunch of BS. You missed the two best quotes
  20. As much of a mouthbreather as Kaplan is, he's pretty well connected. This wouldn't be the first deal, or even the third, that he's been the first to report. He's also been completely wrong on many occasions
  21. james loney is a 1B with a .752 ops and is on pace for about 100 rbis. is he a badass "run producer"? no, because RBIs tell you absolutely nothing and the term "run producer" makes you sound like dave kaplan.
  22. This just seems like typical lee to me. He shows up in the boxscores when it no longer matters. It happened this year and to a degree last year. He played great in 05 when it didn't matter. When it comes to crunch time as in the post season, the guy has zero rbi's with the cubs and 8 total in 100 at bats. Hes just not a legitimate star, team leader, nor a three hitter. Unfortunately year after year we were left to depend on him in this capacity. If only we had more Jaw jutting, forward leaning, scruff of the beard type winners like Darin Erstad or Scott Brocius. Nice sarcasm but this was hardly a post about having more hustle-type "winners." How does that make us better? Its about getting some consistent hitting out of the three hole and having a real run producer in our line up. jesus
  23. the cards have the ability to get better at baseball when they're mad? those guys are awesome
  24. Still more promising than Rudy's I'd say. What does Rudy do besides shoot the three ball?
